Step out of the city and onto this working produce farm. Accommodation is rustic and basic as opposed to four star but the air is fresh and the stars are a work of art. Come and enjoy the tranquillity. As a way of introduction, some basic housekeeping information about our cabin …. Firstly this is a working farm, so accommodation is rustic and basic as opposed to four star. Our bathroom facilities are an outside shower and composting toilet about a 20m walk from the cabin but the bonus is we have just had instant hot water installed and the shower is steaming hot. There is a hand basin outside the cabin with cold running water for drinking and washing. We will always leave a torch in the cabin for your use, for those late night adventures! For your convenience there is a refrigerator, microwave, kettle, drinkware, cutlery and plates. Linen and towels are provided and the fridge will be stocked with milk and cold water. There is no hot and cold running water inside the cabin however as I mentioned the hand basin outside will provide cold water for hand washing, teeth cleaning etc. Animals roam free on the property and the cabin overlooks our dam where the ducks and geese take their families to swim. As I mentioned earlier, this is a working farm and business and we do have a dam in close proximity to the cabin; this is NOT fully fenced, so please be aware that is it your sole responsibility to supervise your children at all times – animals are also freely wandering the grounds in the way of chooks, alpacas, sheep, goats, geese and dogs (we have 8 rescue dogs of all shapes and sizes), so please be aware that free range is just that, again supervision will be required. Adequate footwear for children would be an advantage as the walking tracks can be rutted after bad weather and working farm means dirt and animal poop (just to add to the fun) so obviously safety is the best prevention. We'd love to show you our little part of the world and welcome you to our home. We welcome lots of interaction with the animals and there is a big open fire that you can sit around and toast marshmallows and chat or a smaller one outside the cabin to take in the fresh air and the canvas of stars. Magical Bush at Murrays Run

14. Magical Bush at Murrays Run

77km from Blacktown · 2 sites · Lodging · Murrays Run, NSW
Kawalang is nestled on 100 acres of stunning bushland on Wonnarua Country, in the midst of the Watagan Forest in the Lower Hunter Valley. We’re just 1.5 hours from Sydney and Newcastle, and 45 minutes from the Central Coast. Nearby, you’ll find the Yengo Lookout and Rock Platform with remarkable Indigenous art, as well as wineries, horse farms, and the historic villages of Wollombi and Laguna. We grow food organically — from citrus, figs, and quinces to pears, mulberries, elderberries, finger limes, feijoas, garlic, vegetables, and greens — and strive to live sustainably. We keep waste to a minimum by composting food scraps and reducing plastic use. Most of our energy comes from solar panels, while rainwater collected in filtered tanks provides our water supply. An electric car charger is available for visitors to support their journey around the Valley. We live in harmony with the wildlife here — wombats, wallabies, possums, bandicoots, kookaburras, cockatoos, and more. On walks down to the bottom field, you’ll pass striking cliffs and rock formations, and discover a private valley with a meandering creek to explore and enjoy. We are about an hour from an exquisite lookout toward Big Yengo, a sacred mountain as significant to Aboriginal people in this region as Uluru is in Central Australia. For thousands of years, Aboriginal communities have gathered on this mountain. The area offers rock carvings, walking tracks, and campsites to explore. The name Kawalang was gifted to us by Aniwan Gamilaroi Wonnarua Elder Uncle Bill Smith. It means “abundance” in language, acknowledging the spirit of the land and the food and joy it brings.

Tomah Retreat

16. Tomah Retreat

51km from Blacktown · 3 sites · Lodging · Mount Tomah, NSW
An adults-only bright, romantic studio beneath the main house with its own entry, a gorgeous Ergoflex queen-sized bed, a luxurious raindrop shower, and a glorious outlook over the green garden and Japanese Tori gate. Your own fireplace, bookshelf, sideboard kitchenette, toaster, hot plate, coffee machine, choice of teas - you'll never leave your beanbag. Also: Reiki Treatments, Meditation classes, visit the suspended bed in the treehouse or walk the labyrinth plus free infrared sauna. Tomah Retreat is a precious retreat on 5 lush acres in the Blue Mountains where the only thing that is farmed are vegetables with a great big dollop of love and compassion - here the animals roam free. The Tomah Retreat has been the base for the International House of Reiki and meditation classes since 2002 and continues to be so. When it's not busy with that, it is creating a healing space for individuals or couples who are looking to get away from a busy world. In other words - YOU. The Tomah Retreat is also a healing home for many animals who have come from rescue backgrounds. There are 2 more couples studios on the property, CHILL and BREATHE, which you can book to create an entire retreat for your family and/or friends. Bronwen has put together a number of unique experiences that you can enjoy when you stay at the Tomah Retreat. Bronwen will specifically cater these treatments or classes to your needs. Bookings are essential and can be made at "Tomah Retreat dot com". The gardens are shared with the guests of the other 2 studios on the property, Studio Breathe and Studio Chill. Ask Bronwen to tell you a little about the Living Labyrinth she built from 800 dwarf buxus plants - before you go and walk it. It's a great contemplative tool and will support your inner healing during your stay. Head up to the Treehouse and make yourself comfortable in the suspended ergoflex queen bed, let the breeze tussle your hair, and watch the world go by - sometimes all we need is somewhere quiet to sit and BE for a while, before heading back into the fray. The infrared sauna sits in its own building where you can look out over the garden while enjoying its wonderful health benefits. It's free to enjoy, just book your time with Bronwen when you arrive. The smallest things can be healing, like snuggling up in front of the firepit, patting a cat, reading one of our many self-help books or novels, drinking tea, just listening to the birds, or playing with a dog. We are obviously being extra careful at this time. We have taken precautions to increase cleaning and disinfection, particularly on frequently touched surfaces. We're also asking that you please practice safe hygiene and remain at home if you feel unwell.

Hartley's Haven Rustic Farm Stay
