Ten Mile Bird Watch and Farm Camp

6 sites · RVs, Tents340 acres · Whitlow, NSW
Camp under the trees near the large house ponds or choose one of the secluded hill top or bush sites (hill tops may require 4x4 access). If you like bird watching then we recommend the pond sites where, from your shady campsite you will see many varieties of bird life as you look across the ponds and rolling pastures. If you’re looking for solitude we’re happy to show you our more ‘secluded’ sites, where you will see nothing but nature! Both options will give you wonderful views of the night sky. 20 minutes from the town of Bingara. Surrounded by hills, the town rests in a natural amphitheatre. The spectacular Gwydir River, the life blood of the town, pulses through Bingara’s heart. Its beauty is indeed priceless.

New Valley Dreaming

6 sites · RVs, Tents2859 acres · New Valley, NSW
This cattle and sheep property in New Valley, half an hour south of Inverell, is raw and beautiful, with New Valley Creek running through it, swimming holes, and waterfalls. Newly laid trails make exploring the property easy, from valleys to hilltops. If you are looking for a natural wonderland, where you can enjoy Australian bush camping at its absolute best, this is it. The property is so spectacular, that parts of it have even been featured on TV's Farmer Wants a Wife. The terrain is rugged and hilly, but the host has created easy access to several excellent, grassy camping sites some exclusive to one group at a time, others around the large dam but still with plenty of space. They all have good road access for even 2WD, provided they have good clearance. The creek and rocks are stunning and will provide hours of fun. Fishing tours are run on the property at an extra cost, it is strictly catch and release and must discuss it beforehand with the host. We do not permit hunting as we want our guests to have and enjoy the tranquility and space. If you are visiting during the shearing season, you are welcome to come and check it out for an insight into farm life! Pet friendly, but only small breeds, and must be kept on a lead at all times. Please discuss bringing your dog with the host before booking. Campfires are ok provided you BYO firepit, and they are kept small and manageable. There is plenty of fallen timber you are welcome to collect for firewood. Strictly no cutting down of trees. No campfires during fire bans, or when conditions are not favourable. Whilst fishing tours are possible on the property, you must discuss your interest with the host prior as there are important rules around this and is , it's strictly catch-and-release only. We do not allow hunting of any description so that our visitors can have a quiet and relaxing stay without interruptions. Just five minutes up the road is Green Valley Fun Park with a huge playground, jumping pillow, animal walkabout, museum and 18 hole mini putt. Allambie

2 sites · RVs, Tents2500 acres · Keera, NSW
Located an hour south of Inverell, our farm features beef and sheep grazing in the hills of North West Slopes of NSW. It’s an active operating farm so there’s always a lot to see going on in day to day activities. Here you will find acres and acres of rolling hills in a remote area, with spectacular views from the hill tops. So the thing to enjoy here is the fresh air, the bushwalking and the tranquility. Get off grid with no mobile service for a truly relaxing recharge and reviving break away. We have a lovely little waterfall you can walk into and spend some time at the rock pool. This is totally in a natural state. It's about enjoying the rawness of the land and its natural features. The native wildlife is abundant as are the deer and goats. Bird watching is a treat with many small species up to the majestic wedgetail. When visiting us at Allambie, you'll almost be taking a walk back in time. You will encounter a slice of life that has remained very much the same since settlement. If you’re a 4WD drive enthusiast you will enjoy camping 'out the back' on the creek. There are 2 main creeks through Allambie and both feed into the Gwydir River, we can direct you to some great fishing spots on the river for a day out. Canoeing, kayaking, boating are all popular activities on the river and we are 20 mins to Copeton Dam. Situated on a running gully/creek and within 800 metres walking distance to the main homestead, the campsite is in open view and safe for small vans, trucks and campers etc. We recommend 4WDs to access the campsite. Please message us if you’re unsure about your vehicle. We welcome self-contained campers who bring their own camping toilet/shower, and drinking water. You must have your own amenities. Campfires are permitted outside of fireban season. Surrounded by hills and a working farm there is much to see and do. Lots of wildlife fauna and flora to take in along with the domestic operations of cattle, goats, sheep and horses. If you're looking for a quiet place "Allambie's" traditional name meaning, then this is it. Off grid, no mains power, peace and quiet on a self-sustaining farm. Bush walking, bird watching, hiking, cycling if you're fit,...there's incredible views from the hill tops.

Farm camping near Bingara guide

Overview

Amid the forested valleys of the New England Tablelands, Bingara is famous for gold and diamond mining. Discover the gold rush heritage as you explore Fossickers Way, visit an old gold mine, and try gold panning along the creek. Because the town is surrounded by mountains and bushlands, you can also take a boat cruise or kayaking excursion along the Gwydir River, go bushwalking or horse riding, or enjoy a picnic by the waterside. There’s a choice of free camping grounds and caravan parks along the river.

Where to go

Along the Gwydir River

The Gwydir River flows east of Bingara to Copeton Lake. Paddle along the river in a canoe, enjoy fishing and bird-watching along the waterfront or go white water rafting during the summer months. Campers can pitch or park by the lakeside and enjoy water sports such as powerboating, water-skiing, and wakeboarding.

Horton Valley

South of Bingara, the Horton Valley has riverside walks and picnic spots, as well as great fishing. Visit the town of Upper Horton to soak up the atmosphere of a traditional Aussie country town and, if you can, time your visit for the annual New Year’s Eve Rodeo, one of the region’s most famous events.

Mount Kaputar

An hour’s drive west of Bingara, the craggy peaks and ancient lava terraces of the Mount Kaputar National Park provide a dramatic backdrop for outdoor activities. Hike to natural wonders such as Sawn Rocks and Lindsay Rock Tops, explore rugged mountain trails by bike or horseback, and stay at quiet bush campgrounds. Along the way, stop at the Rocky Creek Glacial Area, where you can cool off with a dip in the rock pools.

When to go

Bingara rarely gets overcrowded, and mild year-round weather means that outdoor activities are always on the menu. Wrap up warm if you’re heading into the mountains, as temperatures can be up to 10°C cooler than the valleys, even in summer. Springtime is particularly scenic, when wildflowers bloom along the riverfront, while winter visitors should come for the Orange Festival in July.

Know before you go

  • Bingara has bus links to the surrounding towns, but you’ll need your own vehicle to explore the tablelands.
  • Bingara has a small selection of shops where you can pick up camping gear and stock up on supplies.
  • A permit is required to camp within NSW’s national parks, and campsites must be booked in advance.
