Located 100 miles north of Sacramento and 60 miles south of Redding, Black Butte Lake is a quiet park that draws its name from the dark volcanic buttes in the area. When filled to the brim, the lake has a surface area of 4,460 acres, is seven miles long and has a shoreline of 40 miles.

Visitors come to the area for recreation opportunities that include camping, hiking, biking, horseback riding, boating (especially sailboarding), fishing, water sports and wildlife viewing. The spring is more primetime than Friends was on NBC in the 90s for wildflowers like fiddlenecks, California poppies, baby blue eyes and lupine. SPRING BREAK!
