Hikes, wildlife and generous helpings of history are all dished up at The Red Lion, a simple site in the grounds of an old Lincolnshire inn.
At a crossroads in the village of East Kirkby, The Red Lion has been refreshing travellers since 1841; more recently, it was a favoured watering hole for the men and women of Bomber Command in World War II, and the pub’s décor pays tribute to them. The staff are steeped in the history of the old coaching inn and the nearby airfield, and can point you towards the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, 10 minutes’ walk down the road and on the site of the former Royal Air Force base.
The Red Lion makes a splendid base for aviation and wartime history buffs, with the heritage centre nearby and the displays and memorials of the International Bomber Command Centre a 45-minute drive away. As it’s on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds and around half an hour's drive from the coast, it’s also well placed for walks, stately home visits and wildlife watching.
Most importantly, it’s at the back of a friendly pub (which has varied winter and summer opening days and hours, but is always closed on Mondays). It serves hot food alongside local beers and other refreshing tipples. Canine companions are welcome in the bar (it’d be nice if they bought a drink…) and on the site.
Electric vehicle charging is onsite in the public house car park this is chargeable through an app and full instructions are given for once you have booked and paid for your charging slot,

This was a fantastic place for my first camp of the year! I only just discovered it this year and it's a great local asset to me; very convenient to get to but still feels nice and rural. Silas is a great host and I can tell he puts a lot of work and care into the site and I really look forward to returning regularly to how it develops.
I just had my hammock with me and he was really helpful and finding the best spot for me, which had a great view across the fields for an excellent sunset view. I also have to mention all the animals on the site, which really added to the atmosphere. I definitely had a fun wild camping experience without going too off-grid. I would definitely recommend it as a low-key place to unwind and enjoy.

The place is really nice and gets us away from the screen off our phones. The host is amazing and even let us try some goats milk. The goats are really relaxed as well as the donkey and shetland pony. The chickens made me laugh and it was really nice waking up to the roosters in the morning. The trees we camped next to offered some shade during the sunny day, and it is where we put the hammock to chill in. Its a really good way to get away from busy life to chill out with no distractions (other than the chickens wanting to explore around you or watching the baby goat getting the zoomies😂)

A really lovely spot with loads of animals and incredible views with walkways along the canal around the corner.
We camped in a tent for a couple nights. The host was really friendly and incredibly accommodating. Offered us free fresh eggs which were really tasty. We really enjoyed petting the donkey and goats, and had a little visitor one morning (One of the many chickens decided to check up on us). We also headed to nearby Ely and Cambridge which we took the bus.
Overall an incredibly beautiful and quiet place with an amazing host. Will definitely be coming again in the future 😁

A lovely, quiet, basic site. Has all the necessities like flushing toilets and hot showers, but not much else. Fire pits with cooking grills free to use, seasoned firewood available to purchase. 2 minute walk to farm shop for fresh meat and veg, or supermarket 5 mins drive up the road. Plenty of space to set up, no restrictions on pitches, just a general expectation of being courteous to other campers. Grass cut to a good level, ground mostly flat. Would definitely return. Great value site.

Sadly the weather was shocking for our trip and there were only another couple of campers so after battling with our set-up in high winds after enjoying a fabulous coffee and cake in the farm shop cafe in arrival (beautiful shop and cafe) - we finally were about to have a brew outdoors and take in the lovely orchards that became our view. Sadly the winds kept getting stronger and as the sun was going down we made the decision not to stay as the winds were only going to get stronger. Also lack of other campers and morale to keep us going we left and headed home. Nice facilities, toilets were clean and washing/cleaning set up looks good and loved the area that held the fridge and charging points. Just a shame the UK weather let us down - for our very first camping trip.

A small, quiet campsite with clean toilets and shower facilities. Especially liked the family bathrooms for convenience and ease camping with young kids. The campsite had kitchen areas for washing up, shared fridges and charging sockets. An onsite reception sold beverages and snacks. We had a great stay (despite the 40mph winds!) and hope to return in the summer.

Really each to book and if you have any questions prior to booking they are answered very quickly and really friendly too.
Was met on arrival and had a talk through the pitches, found a lovely quiet corner and set up, firewood was brought over later (it’s a very good amount for the price paid - the crate lasted us two days - I’m sure if we were there another night it would have been enough for then also)
The composting toilet was nice and clean and able to clean hands afterwards. Maine water by the car park along with a field you can play games on. There is also a secret enclosure which is a lovely touch and a bug hotel
We enjoyed the back to basic and just being in the moment. Thank you for a lovely stay (and in actual fact if it wasn’t for seeing a little campfire from the other pitches in the evening we felt like we were there all by ourselves

We didn't bring anything to sit on (as we had taken public transport) and she was kind enough to lend us some benches for us to use on our patch. She ensured that our wood was kept dry for our campfire and that she was within reach should we need anything. We would definitely return again. Thank you for a lovely evening.

We loved our time here. We were made very welcome and it was just perfect for us. Very quiet and peaceful at night. It was just us pitched up during our stay. Lovely flat grass surface for the campervan. Our dogs enjoyed themselves and loved watching Chicken TV! Resident dog Bear is an absolute hoot! So funny and a real character. We will definitely be back.
