The Meadow @ Waples Mill

12 units · Tents8 acres · Dunmow, England
Spacious grass pitches in the green Essex countryside A 15-minute drive to Chelmsford; 40 minutes to Audley End Tractor rides on site; firepits provided for campfires. Rural walks, How about proper farm activities like tractor rides (ask site staff for details)? The place to find all this is The Meadow at Waples Mill, an Essex farm site between Chelmsford and Dunmow (and about 15 minutes’ drive from both). This family-friendly site is handy for walks on the Essex Way and other local footpaths, and tractor and trailer rides around the farm are organised on alternate days to give guests a glimpse into agricultural life. Activities complete for the day, it's time to chill out, and that should be easy here – all pitches have access to toilets and hot showers in a trailer close by, and firepits are provided so you can have a safe campfire (with wood available to buy on site and a great farm shop 10 minutes’ drive away for fireside snacks). Pitches themselves are large, well kept and well spaced within a meadow that backs onto the River Roding. Dogs are welcome, and there are plenty of places to take them for a walk nearby. London folk looking for a quick escape to the countryside, this is a place to bear in mind – it’s only about an hour and quarter by road from the city.

Overview

Camping and glamping in Sheringham

The North Norfolk Coast is undoubtedly one of the best-loved UK destinations for seaside holidays. The winning combination of family-friendly beaches, world-class wildlife and seaside resorts on the edge of a mostly-rural county means there’s something for almost everyone. It’s no surprise then, that there are some tempting camping and glamping sites in and around Sheringham, a classic seaside resort in the middle of the Norfolk coastline. We’ve picked out the best of them to feature in the Hipcamp collection. With classic pitches for campers with their own tents to luxury yurts, bell tents and shepherd’s huts, we’ve tried to cater for the whole of the Hipcamp clan. Whether its walking, wildlife watching or a good old-fashioned seaside holiday you’re interested in, camping or glamping in Sheringham might provide just what you’re looking for.

Things to do in Sheringham

There are plenty of things to do on a camping holiday in Sheringham starting at the seaside. You can spend days on the Blue Flag beach, wandering its beach hut-lined promenade and shopping in the independent shops and twice-weekly market. You can learn about its history in the Sheringham Museum and maybe hop aboard the heritage trains of the North Norfolk Railway to travel cross-country to the Georgian market town of Holt. Just inland is Sheringham Park which offers 1,000 acres of landscaped woodland gardens, parkland and incredible views.

Head south of Sheringham to visit the neighbouring town of Cromer for a stroll down the pier and a spot of crab fishing, and head north a few miles to join a boat trip to see the seal colony at Blakeney Point. Further along the coast the pretty town of Wells-next-the-Sea, the historic Holkham Hall and pine-backed Holkham Beach offer further highlights with Norwich, The Broads and the Queen’s rural residence at Sandringham all within an hour’s drive too. For more ideas on days out while you’re camping and glamping in Sheringham, take a look at the Visit North Norfolk website.
