Camp by the river bank of the Souhegan River under shade of oak, hickory, blue birch, hemlock and white pine. Let the song of the rapids sing you to sleep. Maybe the resident owls will join the serenade. This slice of heaven is only 5 minutes from the Everett Turnpike and within an hour from Boston. Weather concerns? The best forecast we've found for Merrimack is https://www.wmur.com/weather. Want to see what the river is doing? Check out https://water.noaa.gov/gauges/SOHN3. 500 CFS is a sporty run with canoe or kayak. SPECIAL NOTE: June 16th Update River has dropped to 300 CFS which means it's still a bit pushy but is at a nice level for boating. Roads are passable. We just had campsites and surrounding trails sprayed for mosquitos so we hope for a sharp improvement on those pests. Still bring your repellent and stop at WalMart or shop Amazon for a Thermocell. Keeping the campfire burning helps as well. More description... Site-1 is located under the trees adjacent to our 3 acre meadow and Christmas Tree farm. Camp near the bank of the Souhegan River in the shade while listening to the river tumble over the ledges upstream. In season, enjoy the chest deep swimming hole 100 feet from your campsite. Two horses graze on the other side of the privacy fence. If you don't like friendly dogs try site 2 where we have a better chance of keeping our dog Wilson from dropping in to visit. He loves people too much not to want to greet folks on Site 1. Site-2 is at the farthest most downstream end of the property and from mid-May to mid-October it is totally screened by foliage. From your site you only see trees and the river. If you don't like other dogs, this is the site you want. Still no guarantee Wilson won't visit, but it's easier to keep Wilson away from this corner of the property. The other side of the river is town conservation land so the only people you're likely to see will be passing by in kayaks or on paddleboards. In dry season, both sites are a great place to start a float trip and you'll likely have the next 1.5 miles all to yourself since rapids up stream become impassable wet rocks in July and August. You are only two traffic lights away from the Merrimack Premium Outlet Mall if you need something to do during inclement weather.

Site 1- Indian Ledges Overlook

99% (81)
RV/tent site · Sleeps 6 · Vehicles under 6 m
Pitch your tent on flat ground cushioned by wood chips 100 feet from, yet out of sight of the Souhegan River. Your site is privately nestled in the trees. Enjoy swimming in the river next to your site, or floating downstream to the next bridge, or fishing for trout in the rapids in season. A tall privacy fence shields the site from view of the nearest neighbor a football field distance away. There is a goal post to sling you own tarp over the picnic table. Sometimes your camp keeper has a tarp pitched for you, but that is subject to the ravages of wind and snow. Native Americans trapped and dried salmon at the river ledges within view of the site. The autumn foliage surrounding the meadow is stunning around Columbus Day. You have a steel ring fire pit with grilling grate. A portable potty in a privacy tent is for your sole use. Deposit waste bags in the provided trash can. Deposit the trash can liner in Green Bin at end of driveway as you leave. Haul the rest of your trash off the property or pick up trash disposal as an Extra.

Site-2 Souhegan Serenity

100% (77)
RV/tent site · Sleeps 6 · Vehicles under 6 m
Souhegan Serenity, Site-2, is a beautiful campsite set under mature oak and pine trees out in the woods within fifty feet of the river. It is situated deep in the woods bordered by undeveloped floodplain of mixed hardwood and pine with town conservation land across the river so you have complete privacy. A path leads down to the river from the site suitable for wading, fishing, and launching boats or tubes. For swimming, you are welcome to drive or hike the trails upstream to the swimming hole. The site is equipped with a 12x 16 foot tenting platform and has a long cable running above its length, so subject to the ravages of wind and snow the platform might be covered by an enormous tarp so you can get from your tent to the kitchen without stepping out into inclement weather.

Bob's campsite along the Souhegan River offers a peaceful retreat with the soothing sound of the river as a backdrop. Campers appreciate the thoughtful amenities like the tarp-covered picnic table and the option to purchase firewood on-site. The area feels secluded and safe, with plenty of space and nearby trails to explore. However, visitors noted ticks can be a concern, so it's wise to remain vigilant.
