While on a family backpacking excursion through Sequoia King’s Canyon National Park, and the surrounding area, we came across this charming campground. A long-forgotten chapel in the mountains that was formerly a summer camp. From here, a short 15-minute drive will take you directly to the main entrance of Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park for access to the Giant Sequoias at Grant Grove and the Grant Grove Village. For those who prefer to travel off the beaten path, a short 30-minute hike will take you to the National Forest. We are excited to invite you to camp at this hidden gem, while we undertake to restore the campground to its original splendor. Easy drive to available parking, with easy access and pull through drive for any vehicle, even with trailers. This is a very basic, very rustic cabin. Cabin is furnished with a full bed, sheets, pillows, comforter. Also, chairs, table, desk, and nightstand. Cabin has electrical power, interior and exterior lights, desk lamp and outlets. Cabin has a heater for use during the colder months, and a fan during the summer and many screened windows that open and close. The restrooms are a short, well-lit walk from the cabin. Tile showers, flush toilets, and laundry machines are available for your use. The cabin is very basic, very simple. This is not glamping, by any means, but there are fresh linens and a comfortable bed. Especially enjoyable when the weather might otherwise be a cause of stress. Raining? Even better! Relax for the evening, listen to the rain fall on the metal roof, watch out the window as the the clouds roll across the mountains, and be at peace. There is a communal fire pit open for use anytime (except when restricted by the county/state). Rustic Cabin is simple, but perfect

The Mountain Chapel Campground was fantastic! I stayed at the Rustic Cabin. It was very simple, but great. No frills but had everything I needed. Comfortable bed, clean linens, a couple chairs, a table, shelves, a desk. Close enough to walk along a well-lit path to the nice tile showers with hot water. I would definitely stay here again.

We loved camping at the Mountain Chapel Campground! Jack, the host, is really welcoming and accommodating, and he helped us plug in our electric car to charge overnight. The campground has gorgeous views in the morning light and it’s close to Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks.

What a great space. So serene. Wake up Staring at an inviting mountainside across the valley of big green trees & bursts of autumn colors. Night sky is clear. Conveniently located next to the Parks but not in the flow of everyone going there. And Jack’s land is fun to explore too. Great facilities on site - shower was amazing after a day of running around. Oh - and some deer seem comfortable enough there to keep coming back. Thank you!

The stay was extremely pleasant. Jack who is in charge of everything on the campground is one of the nicest and kindest people I have met on my trip. Jack helped me and my friend get to the campground and showed us around even though at the time that we came it was way past 12 am. The chapel that is looked after by Jack looks amazing and the views are incredible. Would definitely recommend everyone to pay a visit. 10/10

Level tent pad with a shade net, but unfortunately for most of the day the pads are in sunlight. We were gone all day so it didn’t matter too much, but it warms up QUICK. Plenty of little critters to get to see. We saw a couple frogs, a bat up close, and two bucks! It’s a little rough and tumble for the bathroom facilities, but it gets the job done. Very quiet at night and a beautiful place to see the moon rise and stargaze

Staying at Jacks spot was great. It was really peaceful and exactly what we needed. WARM water was a plus! The facilities were excellent and he was a great host. He offered us firewood if we couldn’t find any on our own.

Jack was a friendly host and gave us all the information we needed for Sequoia. However, the photos of the campsite are no longer representative of the camp when we visited. The site has so much potential and the views are amazing, but the facilities (bathroom and laundry) need a lot of updating and maintaining. The washing machine was dirty, the lights in the bathroom only worked over one toilet stall, and the lights for the showers didn't work. The shower gel dispensers were on the floor, one of the shower curtains had also fallen down and it didn't feel particularly clean. Once the place has had some more work put into it, it'll be a great place to stay but, unfortunately, the lovely photos of the facilities don't reflect the current status.

I really enjoyed my stay here! The land is beautiful, and the facilities were very well maintained. Jack was also very friendly and accommodating. This is an ideal place to stay if you’re looking for a spot outside Sequoia/Kings Canyon NPs.

Bathrooms were nice, showers clean, Wi-Fi worked part of the day and the views were very nice. The hosts were pleasant and even charged a usb item for us But this camp is very undeveloped and has very little shade. Might be a nicer spot down the hill but a truck full of work equipment occupied that spot. Any access to camping spots beyond the first 1 or two were rough, steep and terribly dusty We had only a partial shade tarp on 4 poles, and it was far too warm and dusty to stay in camp while the sun was up - morning or afternoon. The laundry room was in complete disarray and unusable, although it was supposed to be working. This place might have potential. only those less discerning than me might like it

Jack was an absolute Rockstar of a host!! He was available and accommodating! The site was exactly what we were looking for, the drive in (yes full of twists and turns.. thats what you get when you go to the mountains) but it was the PERFECT distance from the national park/forest. The immediate campsites were a bit sunny during the day (june) but there were other spots to go and sit in the shade. The STARS were unreal!!! If youre a star gazer like myself... bring yourself some outsoor sleeping gear because O.M.G. BEAUTIFUL. The view of the mountains for sunrise and sunset were a sight for sore eyes 😍 the pups on the property are friendly and well socialized and (2025) his pointer is a pup and will have you cackling at her gooberness. (Random note to be made, if for any reason youre nervous to book this BECAUSE of the chapel in a mountain town [my friend was] DONT be lol! Its literally just a pretty structure that is being renovated LOL.. had 0 to do with the host/campsite) Jack and his wife (can't remember her name as I didnt book the trip and she was out of town while I was there) are trying to renovate the property and I would LOVE to come back in a few years and see what they've done to the place! So STAY HERE AND BE APART OF THE RESTORATION OF THIS BEAUTIFUL LAND!

Disappointed with the communal bathrooms and shower. The sink was clogged and out of the four bathrooms, only two were functional. Not worth driving up the hill one hour away from the Sequioa National Park.

Jack has a simple but efficient setup on beautiful land. The chapel is idyllic and it’s reasonably close to the king’s canyon entrance (~40 minutes). My daughter and I loved it and would stay again!

Close to the park but the road is windy and tough to drive at night. Facilities were gross. Most or maybe all the bathroom doors couldn’t close properly. Site itself was nice with the picnic table and canopy; nice plus. Sites weren’t on top of each other. If the facilities were just cleaned up and the doors closed properly, this would be a great site.

Jack was super helpful the whole time! He even offered to boil our pot of water after our stove ran out of butane. Cool piece of land with a beautiful view. Each campsite has an overhead tarp and level ground for a tent. Very close to the Sequoia National Park (25 min to the entrance)making it a great choice for last minute trips to the park. Would definitely camp here again.

Jack has a convenient if not rustic set up. The showers and toilets are a plus. When he finishes renovating the mountain chapel it will be pretty stellar. My daughter and I had a great time and jack was helpful at every turn. Highly recommended for the hospitality alone:)

A work in progress

There was a mix-up with the bookings so the yurt was full when we arrived. We got moved into the cabin, which was functional but definitely rustic. Overall, the whole space is definitely still a work in progress. I wish Jack all the best with transforming it, it has a lot of potential. For now, it was affordable, and close to the SeKi national parks, (though the drive off the 180 highway to reach it is very very winding), and has all the basic facilities. An ok place to crash for the night but I wouldn't stay longer than that.

Mixed feelings- absolutely beautiful views. While it was great to have WiFi and the availability for showering and bathrooms everything was heavily under construction and it didn’t feel like it was quite worth the cost for a night. However, I think once the construction is done it will be an absolutely perfect spot for campers in the future.

I’d return to this campsite! Views were so lovely, bathroom & shower feature was awesome, and the host was extremely responsive and helpful. My only complaint would be that our campsite was visited by many wasps in the mornings so we had to eat breakfast and such in the car. But there’s only so much you can do about bugs when in the great outdoors 🤷🏻‍♀️ we didn’t voice our problem and just made due. Otherwise would’ve been a 5/5 experience!

Jack was very sweet, let us upgrade to the Yurt when we had a mishap with our camping equipment. Nice place, excited to see it once fully renovated. Some bugs in the morning while cooking, would recommend bug spray.

It’s about 45 minutes to 1 hour from both Sequoia and from Kings Canyon and very remote. About 23 miles from Woodlake (the closest town with a gas station) If that works for you then you will love it. There are showers and the bed in the yurt is surprisingly comfortable especially if you like Simi firm foam and the host is very hospitable.Supplied a fan for the yurt. The views are spectacular!
