Right on Old Route 66, in Erick, OK, this spot mixes up some classic Americana feels with a chill roadside rest or an overnight stay. Nestled just a quarter mile from the entrance of the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, our glamping village sits on a scenic hill behind our cafe, offering stunning views of Mt. Scott and direct access to nearby hiking trails. We currently feature two glamping wall tents- Zion and Selah, which include a wooden deck and framed queen-size outfitted beds, bistro table and chairs inside creating a cozy, romantic retreat you won't forget. Both wall tents have an Icy Breeze AC cooler available upon request which helps to stay cool while inside the tent. Our hillside location cools down nicely in the evenings with a lovely breeze. We recommend keeping your mesh windows unzipped and open to allow the wind to gently pass through. Swim at Bath Lake durring the afternoon, chill inside our cafe, or visit our neighbors at the Aquarium....all great ways to stay cool durring the heat of the day! We have also recently added a new canvas bell tent- Bethany which features two XL heavy duty twin cots with super comfy mattress toppers, bamboo cooling sheets, and full plush bedding. Our bathhouse includes two private rooms, each equipped with a camping toilet, pump sink, and thoughtful amenities for your comfort. Our outdoor shower will be refreshing after a long hike as well! We have two standing outdoor grills for your cooking needs. Both on the gravel parking lot level, one by the covered patio, the other by the picnic area. Bring your own charcoal, for easy lighting and convenient cooking. Please remember to leave no trace, use trash recepticles and do not leave any food out for the wildlife. Bringing a pet? They are very welcome here, however, we now require a $30 pet fee due to additional cleaning and potential damages. Please add this on to your booking. For those seeking a more rustic experience, we also offer nine primitive walk-up campsites where you can bring your own tent, or request our pre set tent (requires 48 hrs notice). Our cafe is conviently open and available with the following regular hours; Mon & Tues- 8am to 6pm Wed- CLOSED Thur- 8am to 6pm Fri & Sat- 8am to 8pm Sun- 8am to 6pm *hours may vary depending on busy holiday weeks. I loved the area and the hosts were amazing 🙌🏼. The food was delish and a short walk from the tent. The fireworks on the 4th was right across from us and we sat in the chairs and enjoyed the show and the live DJ was playing great music. All around a great experience and highly recommend

The hosts were awesome, very welcoming. Gave us an awesome recommendation for a swimming spot. We purchased the firewood and he had a fire all built and ready to light when we got there, which was awesome. The bed was very comfy. We did not end up staying all night because it was too hot on the day we picked, but will likely book another visit for a cooler time.

This is an amazing place! We enjoyed the view of Mt. Scott from our porch, the cute hike just behind the property and the proximity to town and the Preserve. Oh and breakfast at their cafe can't be beat! Can't wait to come back.

That was the best camping experience I’ve ever had! The area was so scenic, our tent was super cute and the bed was really comfy. All the extra stuff like the “tower” and the cozy space outdoors made everything so much better too. And the cafe food/menu is amazing. Also, every person that worked there was so nice. I just loved the whole experience.

We had an amazing stay at Darrell and Kelli’s yurt! The location was perfect! Super close to Medicine Park, yet still felt completely secluded and peaceful. We had the entire site to ourselves, which made it even more special. The on-site amenities were easy to access and thoughtfully set up, and we loved exploring the hiking trail right on the property. Darrell and Kelli also gave us great recommendations for things to do in the area, which made planning effortless. Most importantly, we felt safe and comfortable the entire time. Highly recommend for a relaxing getaway!

Sam’s Town and Sam himself are the epitome of what Hipcamp should be about. People who open their hearts to others and share their vision of what America is about. I came and stayed over Thanksgiving and it was exactly what I needed…. to disconnect, slow down and remember what is really important in this life. Sam I wish you all the best. You are truly inspiring!! Keep up the good fight and thank you again for all your hospitality. All the little touches mean so much and the care package for my puppy just warmed my heart. Honest review. Darrel was amazing. Wears a lot of hats and makes sure we are taken care of. He suggested to use the restaurant bathroom from 30 min before open to 30 minutes after close. During the night there are camping toilets in private rooms behind the restaurant. Not my favorite but they have long open hours so it really is for just in the middle of the night use. We decided not to cook but there were grills available outside. Had a few common seating areas for watching sunsets and sunrises. Common campfire that Darrel started and provided wood for, himself. We ate all our meals at the cafe. They are very considerate of food allergies preferences no sugar or lots of sugar if needed. Full bar, the chocolate drop martini was delish. Coffee was awesome. Had almond and oatmilk low sugar. Healthy choices from quinoa, black bean burgers house cut fries, latino favorites like hueve rancheros, teas, yerba mate, beer. Turmeric lattes. Very fresh tasting and yummy. They had real egg or imitation eggs or “cheggs” also had real chicken or crushed chickpeas in the quesadillas. Lots of choices. Servers were prompt and kind. The room was cute in decor, bed was comfortable and I have lower sacrum problems and it didn’t hurt to sleep on it. I was hoping there would be a tent heater but there was not one so we used the blankets that were very comfy on the bed and an extra sleeping bag and was very cozy. The tents did have condensation. Weekend Trip to Hippie Hill

I really enjoyed my stay at Hippie Hill! I booked the Zion Tent for my first night of my stay in the Wichita Mountains. I had never been to the area and it was nice to have a stay in town to get the lay of the land before venturing into the park. The bed was super comfortable, and the tent was nice and warm and protected me from the heavy winds. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful. It is right in the center of the town and the cafe provided a delicious meal and coffee before I started out on my hike the next day. My only critique is that the guest outhouse was locked overnight, but I was able to use the cafe bathroom during business hours. There is some road noise so it’s not necessarily a secluded sort of experience. But it was nice to enjoy a soft bed after a long day of travel before camping the next 2 nights! Again the owners and the cafe were really nice. I’d definitely recommend this spot for someone who wants to enjoy Medicine Park during their trip to the Wildlife Refuge.

1 night at Sams Town

Sam is a wonderfully accommodating host. A few yellow jackets had slipped into where we were originally going to stay and kept landing on me. As someone who is deadly allergic, I was not comfortable staying there. We contacted Sam and he was very apologetic, offering to reimburse us completely if we needed to find somewhere else to stay, or move us to a different cabin in his camp. We took him up on the latter option. Since where we were moving from cost more money than where we ended up (the Writers Cabin), he reimbursed us the difference in cost. He got the cabin ready for us, and lit us a fire in the fire pit outside the cabin that we enjoyed relaxing by.
