Our property is in a secluded neighborhood, a 4.2 mile drive in from the main road (Highway 11). The drive in or out should take about 10-15 minutes. Volcano National Park is 19 miles from our home and will take about 30 minutes to drive. We are 18 miles from Hilo Farmers Market/downtown Hilo and again should take about 30 minutes. Pahoa area is 20 miles from us and just past a 30 minute drive. Tour the island during the day and come back to a spacious, private courtyard campsite where you can experience the beauty and sounds of our forest sanctuary.

Yip Camp provides a setting that promotes immersion in nature. The property is located on the Kilauea Volcano at about 2700 feet in elevation and in sight of the majestic Mauna Loa volcano rising at the peak at 13,680 feet. Both volcanos have been active recently. There are several trails at the National Park
nearby; trails and several species of birds live on the property including Japanese Pheasants. On clear nights the skies provide excellent ambient viewing of the moon, planets and constellations. The campsites and cottage are located in the woods near a shower and flushing toilet and the property is off grid with the goal to establish an example of sustainable lifestyles and ecosystems. Local fruits and vegetables are grown on the property and the greenhouse provides food. Solitude is available for those who seek silence and immersion in nature and a number of state and county beaches are within a forty minute drive. The focus is providing a quiet environment and an opportunity for solitude away from the distractions of urban lifestyles. Beaches are about forty five minutes and the drive to Hilo is about 25 miles.

We are a commercial orchid farm starting the homestead 8 years ago. Lava caused us to evacuate 2 years ago before it stopped a mile above the farm and Malama Market. We have a lava tube on the property you can explore. It’s so tall in some places, you can drive a school bus through. Good to bring headlamps if you're interested in this and just for walking around the farm when there is no moon! We are a 2 year old food forest/ sustainable farm located in Mountain View, Hawai'i at 1800ft. So far we have about 25 fruit trees growing along with a vegetable bed, herbs, and numerous flowers and ornamentals. Guests are welcome to any food growing that is ready to harvest. Incredible amounts of love has been poured into this land and there's an infinite amount more to come.
We are located within a 20-25 minute drive from Volcanoes National Park. Two of the best restaurants on the island (Wyatt's Place and Da Beans Greens Cafe) are located within a 12 minute drive, and the Mountain View post office and water spigots are located within a 8 minute drive.
This is an ideal site for car campers and vanlifers. You are welcome to bring your own tent and pitch it anywhere on the open grass area as well.
We have an outdoor kitchen with a 2 burner stove, fridge, copper drinking water container, and a 250 gallon water tank for washing dishes. We have a professionally built outhouse style Humanure Composting toilet.
We are less than 200 feet from the paved road so any vehicle will be able to drive straight onto the land. The land is located in a very safe part of the neighborhood with great neighbors closeby (but not too close)!

Mauna Loa Camp is about 20 minutes from Hilo on "The Big Island" (Hawaii) in the Hawaiian Acres neighborhood. The actual address is 16-1648 Ooaa Rd. (Road #6), Kurtistown, HI 96760. It’s a 3-acre parcel that’s entirely fenced, with wide open areas to set up wherever you like.
We planted lots of fruit trees in 2025 and 2026, and we expect to harvest fruit in 1–3 years. The air is fresh, and the stars are amazing — like I’ve never seen before. I also love the Coqui Frog songs at night.
This location is ideal for taking day trips anywhere on the island (about 2 hours to Kona). The waterfront in Hilo is unique, with calm pools of water set well inland from the ocean. Wild orchids and flowers grow at the camp.
You can pick wild strawberry guava or hit the local markets for incredible fruits like lychee, longan, rambutan, soursop, oranges, tangerines, avocado, starfruit, lemon, macadamia nuts, pineapple, and banana. All of these are available at markets when in season, and in a few years, some can be picked right at Mauna Loa Camp (perhaps by 2028).
I live in the Rochester, NY area and we operate four camps in NY, one in SC, and one in FL. Our sites are rustic — no electricity, no water — just you and nature. We provide portable toilets and/or a porta-potty, and there is a public shower at a park in Hilo. Our goal is to keep our camps simple and in harmony with nature.
We expect respect for our land and neighbors, with absolutely zero trash left behind (carry in, carry out). You will love it — everyone does. Hawaii is a special place, and we feel so lucky to be part of it!
We rent to only one group at a time, ensuring total privacy. My friends and neighbors in the area are wonderful assets, making it a lovely place to be one with our planet and nature.

Hipcamp’s best, most temperate, comfortable weather on the island. Parking is available outside the gate, with additional space inside a locked double-wide gate for secure access. Room for a van, truck, RV, or car (no hookups). A few extra spots may be available if you need multiple—just let me know. The property sits under a canopy of rainbow eucalyptus on 3 quiet acres, backed by a Hawaiian reserve.
The cabin is a tranquil 2-bedroom, semi–open-air space with a loft. The loft is accessed by small stairs and is not disability accessible. The other sleeping area is open with new flooring—please bring a sleep pad. There is no bed at this time. An attached open-air kitchen area includes water collection and basic food utensils.
Message me with any needs or questions, and I’ll do my best to help. There’s also a solar setup you can connect to if you have a solar generator. The food forest and garden areas are young and still establishing. If you hike, stay aware of your surroundings—there are lava tubes and uneven drops. The trails are safe if you choose to explore.
You’ll also find the biggest ʻōhiʻa I’ve ever seen near the corner of the cabin. I value respect and privacy, and you can count on that from me. If you happen to notice my security camera, it is not active. While you’re here, it’s your place—your liberty and peace matter most. Make yourself at home and enjoy.

The Environment
Located at 2,200 feet elevation in the Puna rainforest, it is very wet here but never cold or very hot. Access is easy: take Highway 11, follow the pavement for two miles, and then continue on improved gravel for a 1/4 mile. A gated private road leads to the camping spots.
Rules & Features
Pets: Dogs and pets are welcome but cannot run loose.
Hunting & Foraging: There is great hunting for wild boar on the property. Lots of wild fruit and berries are free for the picking.
Quiet & Conduct: This is a super quiet location away from neighbors. No open fires are allowed, and no excessive alcohol consumption is permitted.
The owner lives on-site with two dogs. Come explore my place and experience the local vibes.

This camping location was purely ideal. The large grassy area for camping was very private and spread out. We could not see the one additional camper and it was amazingly quiet. Weirdly there were no chickens during our stay.
The short walk to the lava cliffs led us to 2 chairs and the most amazing view of the blue waters and crashing waves! What an oasis you have created here! Better than the photos!!!
The host and hostess were great! They met us upon arrival and gave us info on where to park and how to use the jacuzzi! There was a spacious shower with plenty of hot water.
The friendly dogs provided us a doggie fix we needed as we have been away from our pooch for a month.
We highly recommend Wild Blue Waters! Thank you so much! Aloha and we will definitely visit again 🙏🏼

While we had no direct interaction with our host, one of the other tenants greeted us and showed us the ropes. There are no great camping views, but the bathrooms were clean, kitchen area convenient, and a shower is always nice. Plus we are orchid geeks, so really enjoyed walking through all the tents and seeing the variety of plants. We would 100% stay here again on another visit, but it looks like the proprietor might be moving away from hosting campers.

Could not reccomend Blaze’s land enough. It was even more stunning than pictures could do it justice. The pups were sweet and welcoming and you can’t beat the views. We will definitely be staying here again and already can’t wait to come back!

The host Tom is a very nice person, we got very well welcomed. As it was raining and we had a tent, he let us sleeping for free into one of his set. There is an outside shower and toilets with hot water. The site is very close to the Volcano National Park.

We got in late and had to leave early, but the facilities we used (shower, bathroom) were wonderful. The groundskeeper was very kind and helpful, and the property is well attended to. Directions were well written. Would absolutely stay here again and get to enjoy it for longer.

This is such a beautiful and calm place. The bathroom is in the middle of the campground. You have a nice view to all of the plants and you can hear the ocean. Shawn welcomed us directly when we arrived. He has 5 dogs but they are very friendly.

We had a great time here, especially enjoying the hot tub and campfires we made. With the loss of Isaac Hale campground there aren’t many options for public campgrounds anywhere nearby so this hipcamp was a great option for touring around the 2018 lava flows and Puna area beaches. The directions were easy to follow and the potholes in the access road easy enough to navigate in any car. Campsites flat but soil in this area is lava rock under the grass so tent pegs a bit hard to get in. Only one bathroom could be a problem at times but it worked out ok. We would recommend and return again.

Like the other reviews say, this is a great spot to camp. The yard is super well kept, flat site, full bathroom access. It poured while we were there which made the hot tub a nice treat. View of the waves crashing is amazing. It's quiet and peaceful. Host was happy to share his knowledge about the botanicals, fruit trees and land. Can pick ripe fruit and dogs are friendly.

What a wonderful place to stay over in Hilo. We were on a camping trip and having a spot with lots of covered areas and amenities for not much more than the price of a county park campsite was so appreciated. We had pretty torrential rains during our stay and made the most of the covered kitchen and TV area during the evening. The hosts were helpful in recommending the least-wet area to pitch our tent and we were grateful to be able to do laundry. So close to some of the best beaches in Hilo, too! Would definitely stay again.
