PRIMITIVE EXPERIENCE
Enjoy a rustic, off-grid Northern Michigan camping experience, all in the comfort of a tastefully decorated cabin. This cabin DOES NOT have electricity, running water, or traditional plumbing.
OUTSIDE
This 640SF cabin boasts two porches. The front porch overlooks the meadow and is perfect for sunsets and coffee. This porch includes a hand pump for fresh water in the warm months. The back porch faces the woods and is a great place to cook on the propane grill while enjoying a bonfire.
KITCHEN
The kitchen is conveniently located off the back porch and is stocked with essentials to prep your meals, and boasts a dry sink with a 5 gallon water dispenser for washing dishes and washing up. We do NOT stock food essentials or keep food in the cabin; please bring your own, along with a cooler. The table has ample seating for enjoying meals, cards, and board games. One-of-a-kind animal mounts and rustic decorations adorn the whole downstairs.
LIVING ROOM
The living room is perfectly situated at the front of the cabin, overlooking the meadow. The propane fireplace will warm the entire cabin- even the loft! Sit on the leather couch and relax as you overlook the meadow.
THE LOFT
Head up the wood ladder to the open loft. You will find a cozy queen bed on one side, and 3 twin beds on the other. Bedding is included! The loft is a shared space, but does provide some privacy when the curtain divider is drawn. We've included a hand crank Victrola with records for those days when you miss Spotify.
THE OUTHOUSE
The outhouse is conveniently located several paces away from the cabin and bonfire. It has a locking door with window and curtain for privacy. A bucket of wood shavings is provided to cover your waste and keep the smell down.

This cabin is located on 10 acres with 1 other cabin and a shared screened in Pavillion located nearby. 4wd is required to access. There is an outhouse just down the trail behind the cabins and the shared screened in pavilion. There is a charcoal grill (bring your own charcoal). There is a bonfire pit between the two cabins as well.
There are plenty of fallen trees for you to use as firewood. A phone number/address will also be provided for wood pickup or delivery if you’d prefer to take that route.
Guests also may enjoy the “LiL ATV Trail” that is cut onto the property.

Beautiful setting, and a well-equipped rustic cabin! Jeremey was incredibly helpful answering our questions ahead of the trip, and made sure everything was ready for our arrival. My stay at the Atwood Lodge was an absolute treat for the soul and senses. It provided me with a weekend of peace and beauty to cleanse my mind of the hustle and bustle of city living. My family and I particularly enjoyed the wonderfully manicured trails to walk and explore. We also loved wildlife 'hunting' with our eyes, spotting many deer, turkeys, and monarchs. The stars at night over the campfire on the hill were an absolute spectacle. The beds were clean and comfortable, providing great restful sleep for us all. The lodge interior was clean and cozy, complete with all the amenities one would need from home. My only regret is not walking all the trails this trip, guess I'll have to plan another stay 😉.

We loved hanging out by and in the river all day. Our goal for the stay was to enjoy being outside by the water with the dogs. It was a great opportunity to enjoy the environment without having to be bothered by other folks and their unleashed dogs. We enjoyed playing on the kayaks as well. The beauty and sounds of nature was a perfect backdrop of the disconnect from the world. There was ample shade by the sandy beach to allow for relaxing. The river bed was sandy and not mucky. We saw lots of birds and a baby water snake. The outhouse was clean and setup for your comfort. The cabin was too warm to hang out in during the day but why would you when outside was perfect. Inside the cabin was clean and free from pests. We had brought our Jackery generator which allowed us to recharge the batteries of our shop fans. It may be too warm in the summer without a fan or two in you while sleeping. We had a great time and look forward to staying in the fall where it’s warm during the day and cooler at night.

This place is incredible! River out front is deep enough to swim and fish in, there’s lot of kayaks and canoes to take up river, lots of sleeping space, very secluded, nice deck, and even a sauna!

Weekend Trip to CUT RIVER CABIN AT HIGGINS LAKE
The cabin is very cute and cozy, and nice to be disconnected. I took my dog for her first ever canoe ride, we did some hiking, enjoyed the sauna, looked at the stars, saw a bald eagle. Truly a little slice of heaven and a very special space. Looking forward to returning in the future

Weekend Trip to CUT RIVER CABIN AT HIGGINS LAKE
I loved staying here it was great to step away from the modern world and into all manual water and wood burning stove. I only stayed one night though so staying another night might be too much work nonetheless was a very pleasant experience. I should have taken a brighter lantern for more lighting. Definitely having headlamps helps for walking to the outhouse at night. Overall loved it and would like to come back in the summer I didn’t stay long enough to get a chance to try out the sauna.

Camped her a few years ago, it def was quiet. Fishing with the kids was a blast, not much activity on the lake actually. The sites where very clean and the toilets were ok. The host was very informative and willing to do what he could for us..

I have been camping at Sulak for years, the sites are a good distance apart and setup well. There are fire pits, picnic tables and lantern holders at all 12 sites. There are vaulted toilets by the campsites and down by the river access that are maintained by the DNR. The campground has changed over the years, but is still a favorite for me and my boys.

Equestrian camps are for horse campers.
Poles are to tie up horses on a high line.
True, this Equestrian camp is not often.
used. but it is so disappointing to arrive with a big rig, four horses and find all the pull through sites occupied by tents and children who have no idea how to behave around horses.

Nichols Lake South Campground is a National Forest campground and does accept reservations. I make mine every year.

I definitely would not recommend this campground to anyone. There was no Beach maybe 50 feet. The so-called host has nothing to do with the campground. And the ranger that Patrols the campground is very hostile. I would not even recommend this Campground for prisoners. Never again will I camp at a federal Campground again.

This is a great place to keep your car while you backpack the Manistee River Loop. Unfortunately, the Loop itself has become really crowded -- it's best to go during the week.

We stayed at the free campsites just east of the recreation area in the national forest. There is a long dirt road called Green Road in the national forest with signs that say to not park on the west side of the road. Lots of great open campsites with fire rings. No amenities in the national forest.

We stayed here on 8/10/17
We had this campground all to ourselves for three days! There are a few sites that are better suited for a small R/V or tent and others with full pull-through capabilities. Little known site as far as we can tell; most people were an hour north in the dunes. National Parks were all at capacity when we ventured down here.
There was one outhouse for the whole camp and a hand water pump (I don't think the water is potable coming from this one).
We would visit this place again. I wouldn't know how to review this for the equestrian adventurers. There were several hitching posts in the camp.

This little gem of a campground is nicely tucked away in the Manistee National Forest. It is clean and comfortable with nice large sites. The best thing is that you can hop right on the Manistee River Trail and hike along the east side of the Manistee River for about 10 miles. If you cross the bridge to the other side you can take the North Country Trail back to a foot bridge and arrive right back at the campground. It's gorgeous 20 mile hike.

Based on this recommendation, I took my family to camp here. I followed the Google Maps to "Pines Point Campground". I don't recommend doing this because we went down a super sketchy muddy road with no signs except for "Private Property". We arrived at the 'destination' and it was a deadend with thousands of flies swarming the car, probably from all the dead bodies of previous idiots who followed Google Maps.
We ended up going to White River Campground, which is your typical public location. After our experience at Creepy Hollow, we didn't mind being in the company of others. I'm sure this place is actually pretty cool, but it's so off-the-grid that you might need a helicopter to get there.

A rustic walk-in campground with plenty of room to roam. Popular spot for recreational water craft to put in and out. There are 2 groups sites which means there is a 50/50 chance you'll have a loud, late night group on the weekends.
