Stay in one of our Native American Tipis, nestled into the forest next to the Winema National Forest. We have miles of hiking trails, and lots of wildlife in the way of birds, bunnys, chipmonks and the occasional deer and elk, and are across from the Pelican Butte mountains. Experience what few get to know- what it's like to be in a real Native American Tipi. Come experience the outdoors as Natives have lived. This isn't any airconditioned motel room- this is the real deal. Owners are Native American. An experience of a lifetime. Questions will be answered, info. available. Also a art gallery of their artwork is on site in the office. Come and enjoy! Their ranch, Heartline Ranch & Tipi Village is on Crater Lake Highway (Hwy 62) just 26 miles down from Crater Lake. They have designated 15 acres for a primitive Campgrounds and Tipi village sites. September of 2020 we were sadly effected by the Wildfire- TwoFourTwo which took 5 of our 6 tipis. We have been able to clean up, regrow and make ready for camping guests. We once again have 6 tipis, all beautiful, and in addition, 6 new camping sites for people with their own tents. Sorry, NO rv's (vans are allowed.) Its wonderful to see all the beautiful regrowth, and to see that most of our trees have regenerated. It is now once again a beautiful place to be. It is their love for this land and a desire to share the beauty and Native experience with others to led them to open up these campgrounds. There is 15 acres in the immediate campgrounds & 6 tipi sites and 6 camping sites for folks with their own tents, so LOTS of privacy. Our ranch has 250 acres of land, great hiking trails that you will have access to for hiking, next to the Winema National Forest, and connected to the Pacific Crest Trail. You will have space to enjoy this beauty. The owner's horses are rescue horses and are their own private property. Please do NOT feed them or go up to them without the owners being there. Horses have delicate stomachs. Our gentle giants are mellow but very big so please stay OUT of their pasture. You may help us during their feeding time, if you ask owners.

#1 Native Am. RedtailedHawk Teepee

90% (20)
Canvas tent · Sleeps 5
This Tipi is our MIRACLE TIPI! We had the tragic TwoFourTwo fire sweep through our campgrounds last September (caused by a careless campfire in another campgrounds 5 miles away!)  Our Red Tailed Hawk Tipi survived in pristine condition! As of Memorial Day Weekend, we will have two tipis open, and will no longer have any other campsites available. Camp in our stunning Redtailed Hawk Native American Teepee. Primitive camping Native American style, find out what the total Western experience was really like. Lakota style genuice Native American tipi (owned and run by Native Americans), 18' diameter, wake up to the quiet sound of birds in the stress free lovely area of an old Northwestern forest. See wildlife, birds and all kinds of trees and plants to give you good privacy in this experience. Hike on our gentle trails of our 250 acre ranch, which is 90% Forest.  . Most campgrounds have campers right on top of each other, ours gives you room to hike, see the wildlife, trees and room for privacy just down from Crater Lake. In this 250 acre ranch, we have open only2 tipis.  There are  wildflowers (in season) , you have space to 'be' here, and that's how we plan on keeping it. We just have a dirt road, and no electricity, and an on-demand hot water shower.  ( The well is solar in our desire to keep compatible with the national forest that we are beside.) The norm here is to hear the buzz and whir of hummingbirds, dragon flies and birds of all kinds. You can see the stars at night, and hear cows off in the distance, and since we are beside Crater Lake Highway, we are an easy distance to Crater Lake, so you will hear some traffic now and then. You are across the street from Pelican Butte, a beautiful mountain range, and also see Agency Lake off in the distance.  Since the TwoFourTwo fire which decimated some of our land and forest, you can also see wildlife that has come in to help regenerate our forest. Work still goes on as we clear and watch new plants and trees begin again. We are not going to clear-cut burned trees, but in the Native tradition, allow the roots of the burned trees to help regenerate the new ones coming in.There are woodpeckers that crack open pinecones only after a fire has happened, to regenerate the area. You may see him, he looks like a red-headed woodpecker, only has a black and white stripped head. He is all over here, helping us to regain our forest, though it is a slow process. But still much beauty and peace here. We have a lot of beautiful regrowth this year, and our birds and wildlife (deer and elk) are back.

#5 Eagle Tipi

97% (15)
Canvas tent · Sleeps 5
This tipi is to honor our Eagles who protected us as Native tribes. Our tipis have had a lot of trees and forest around it to give privacy, and yet a driveway so you can drive right to it. In Sept of 2020 we had a terrible wild fire, the 242 fire go through and burned out all tipis but one. This tipi you are in is brand new, and we are very happy about it. You will see where some damage was, but most of our trees have rejuvenated and much growth has returned. Our wild life and birds are all back. If you hear a woodpecker, give him your thanks, these are black=backed woodpeckers, and the peck on healthy bacteria which have saved so many of our trees. One of natures ways for on-going life. We are currently working on replanting and allowing those trees that will survive the chance to do so. Hopefully see why all fires need to be OUT before you leave. We have a passion to recover. There is a hot on-demand shower, and porta potties near the tipis in one central location. Within the teepee are 4 mattresses, with sleeping bags. The Fire pit in the middle for warmth. Cooking outside on an outdoor firepit and picnic table is allowed. You may purchase firewood at the office, $5 per bundle. IF there is a fireban, there will be NO BURNING at all! We will let you know ahead of time.

#6 Elk Native American Tipi

Canvas tent · Sleeps 5
This is our Elk who protected us and fed us as Native Peoples, that means so much to us. We have a large group of Elk who live on and near our land. Our tipis have had a lot of trees and forest around it to give privacy, and yet a driveway so you can drive right to it. Unfortunately in September of 2020 we had a wildfire go through and impact quite a few of our trees. We are currently working on replanting and allowing those trees that will survive the chance to do so. You can see the on-demand hot shower near the tipis, and porta potties. Within the teepee are 4 mattresses, with sleeping bags. The Fire pit in the middle for warmth. Cooking outside on an outdoor firepit and picnic table is allowed. #4 Elk tipi

Booked 6 times
Canvas tent · Sleeps 5
This tipi is in honor of the Elk, which we have on our ranch and National Forest beside us. All tipis are about 50 ft or more apart. The Elk tipi is one of our newest tipis, being added in this April. We are now up to our original campground sites since the 242 Fire. Each tipi is 18' in diameter, and very tall inside. The tipis are all equipped with 4 mattresses (at least one being a queen mattress), sleeping bags, a central firepit for keeping warm at night, a picnic table and wood burning firepit outside. (All fire will be suspended if we are in a fire ban season.) There is a beautiful view of our beautiful stars up through the top of the tipi, pretty stupendous to see! Come have an experience of your life-time. Owners are Native, and will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Heartline Ranch offers a mix of experiences for campers. Many appreciate the warm welcome from hosts Bob and Kori, along with the unique experience of staying in a tipi. The ranch's proximity to Crater Lake is a plus, and while the sunsets are lovely, some campers mention road noise and mosquitoes that can affect the tranquility. The site is clean, but with its dusty environment and occasional barking dogs, it might not suit everyone seeking complete peace and quiet.
