STATUS of OT DOT CAMP OCT 2026 Welcome! Fall is in full effect! Leaves are peaking! 10/15/26 Our farm is vast and sparse, focusing on sustainability while giving back to the community. We are a safe haven for animals and humans alike. Situated on and between two peaks of Little Phoenix Mountain range in Jefferson Ashe County. Our sites’ altitudes range from 3100 feet to over 3600 feet, which is a lot of slope and hillside to say the least. As a guest you will be offered insane long views and wildflowers galore. Located in the Blue Ridge mountains, we have natural water springs popping out, some of which are tapped to drink from. (10.1.25 currently farm springs are not accessible to guests, shatley springs up the road approx 4miles north has a public spring that we highly recommend) If you are looking for a camping spot that is only 5-10 minutes from town (Jefferson NC or the quaint Downtown West Jefferson) but feels like you're in the middle of no where, then we have it! The Blue Ridge Parkway is less than 20 minutes away and the New River equally close. Ontop dot camp The climb up sunrise mountain is bumpy, be warned, and do adhere to the conversation and guidance of the host on the call or in person meeting preclimb. Even though the section titled “the climb” is passed each and every visit by capable awdr and 4wdr vehicles, this does not mean everyone is capable of picking a thought out path. Thankfully everyone of our guest have been wonderful in the over 8 years with zero damage to their vehicles. MSG for more info. *firewood is available if you pay on site you will have to use Venmo/Paypal *We do not allow any harvesting of campfire wood or burning of our property outside of the designated fire ring. We use any downed wood on our property for our family to keep warm and to cut and split ourselves to sell to our guest. A “full nights worth” of campfire wood is roughly a 3 x 2 stacked pile of wood keeping you warm all night. Please let us know ahead so we can prepare it for you

#1 Maple Skyline on SNRS MTN This is our second highest elevation campsite. Sunrise and sunset views. This site has a beautiful pair of sugar maple trees that you are able to seek a cool breeze in the hot summer afternoons with still open areas in an retired field for stargazing at night. Stone fire pit for your outdoor cooking. This site is not near any of our farms animals, so good for your pups to roam and run without distractions if that is desired. Best for tent, rooftop, truck bed, small off road trailer. Can handle up to two small tents or one large tent

#5 The Peak on SNRS MTN Our newest site. The highest campsite on the farm. Hailing over 4500 ft you have a nearly 280 degree view depending on the season. You're able to see Grayson Highlands and Virginia out to the NW. Very flat large camping area able to handled 4-5 tents and or vehicle tents. Biggest firepit on the farm too so take advantage of our well known "nights' worth" of hardwood campfire wood available through us onsite (just mention it ahead of time). Bring a shade tarp as there is no shade at this site. Direct Sunrise and Sunset views. 4wdr or Awrd with good clearance required. A red light tower is near which is off or on at times. Its our Google Pin marking our farm :D Ridgeline forest Hiking trail access. Has become a fast favorite among the regulars for a reason!

Site 2 Sunrise Oak 3400 ft

#2 Sunrise Oak on SNRS MTN Aptly named, you’ll catch the first morning rays at this site. Gorgeous view of the Blue Ridge to the south east. Site has a nice large flat area for multiple tents and vehicles. If you want a sun filled space this site gets lots of it. You will have access to a hike up an old farm road to the edge of the mountain where the view changes and could catch the sunset a second time. This site is not near any of our farm's animals, so good for your pups to roam and run without distractions if that is desired. Site good for ground tents, small campers and rooftop tents. potential for 2wdr access but NEED good clearance.

#4 Phoenix Vista in SNST VLT This campsite sits at 3400 ft and have a wonderful in your face view of big phoenix mountain. On of the BEST sunset viewing sites and also, IMHO, the best site for seeing the spring and fall leaves on big Phoenix mountain. Views are just top notch, looking out to get south, west and north west. The firepit is tucked in a small group of trees with a massive beautiful stone table. This site will possibly have one or two of our farms animals exploring about. Everyone is calm and peaceful. Inquire of location of animals. Best for tent, rooftop, truck bed, small sized trailer, 4wdr sprinter and hammocks. Can handle up to 5 tents and multiple small off road trailers or rooftops. The OG of our campsites, the first I built in 2019. Respect. This site is one of the two sites that can get a glimps of the North Fork of the New River. Has 2wd potential but might have to park above site if grass is predicted to be wet during your stay.

#3 Tippidy Top in SNST VLY The top flat of a peak with long reaching views out to the north. You can catch the sunset over big phoenix mountain also from this site. We find this site to be great for any rooftop tents, vans or small campers. You have a fire pit just outside an open forested area with an amazing panoview out towards Virginia and Greyson highlands. This site has similar views to our phoenix vista site and possibly will have one or two of our farms animals exploring about. Everyone is calm and peaceful. Has 2wdr potential since all downhill to the front from site 3. This site is one of two sites that features a view of the North Fork of the New River!

Site 3 Tipiddy Top 3450 ft
The mountain setting here is lovely, but Site #3 had a few unexpected challenges that made our stay difficult with a toddler. The listing notes a "flat peak," but the terrain is quite sloped, which made setting up camp and sleeping comfortably tricky. The grass was also fairly long, hiding uncleaned animal waste, and the firewood bundle core was unfortunately damp and decaying, making it tough to keep a fire going. Check-in directions were a bit delayed, and given the setup challenges, we ended up departing a night early. Hipcamp Support was helpful in making things right with a partial refund. With a bit more lawn upkeep, drier wood, and clearer notes about the incline, this could be a great spot, but families or tent campers should just be aware of the slope before booking.

Wow! The views, the peacefulness and stargazing was amazing. It’s one of those campsite when you get to it you just say “WOW!” Jon my host was also great. He met me at the bottom of the mountain and guided me up. He was so welcoming, very friendly and gave me lots of history of the area and his property. This was my first time camping here but I don’t think it will be the last time. I’m hoping to come back again soon.

My husband, our dog, and I had an amazing couple of days camping at Phoenix Vista! The views are absolutely spectacular! The site is large, completely private, and peaceful. The fire pit and provided firewood were perfect, and there were plenty of great spots for our hammocks. The sunsets and nighttime stargazing were incredible! If you’re looking for a campsite with the most fantastic mountain views, look no further—this is the one!

Our stay at Jon’s property was incredible! The sites were thoughtful and really well maintained. We stayed at site 6 and the sunrise and sunset were so beautiful. We also really appreciated how close we were to west Jefferson but still being able to camp at such a beautiful property where you feel like you’re somewhere completely different. Jon was a wonderful host and really helpful with directions getting to our site and answering any questions we had! The only thing to note is that you definitely need 4WD or AWD especially if it’s rainy weather.

We had an amazing week at Maple Skyline. Wed originally planned 4 nights but decided to arrive a day early and once we were there decided not to move on to our next spot and extended another day. It was difficult to leave! The long-range views are truly stunning and we felt totally isolated on top of the mountain. Jon was communicative and helpful, especially when it came to the drive up which does require a 4x4 and some confidence! Can’t wait to go back.

Four of us visited Camp 5 on the top of the mountain. Even though we didn't meet Jon in person (he was picking his daughter up), we were able to talk to him on the phone to learn the do's/don'ts of the site. Very nice guy. When we arrived at Site 5, we were greeted with a SPECTACULAR view. One of the most beautiful HipCamp sites I have seen. We had pre-purchased the bundle of firewood, but it was very windy the first night (20mph gusts) and created a real fire hazard since we were also in a drought, thus we were not able to have a fire. The 2nd night a tropical storm was moving through so we decided to leave after night 1. Jon said he couldn't credit the firewood purchase, but he was very nice and said when we return he would give us our bundle then. We look forward to a return visit and having a big fire with a beautiful view. Definitely recommend.

The views were amazing and absolutely worth it, especially Site #4. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Jon’s beautiful campsite and will definitely be back. Jon was very communicative, and his directions made it easy to find the site without any issues. Highly recommend staying here if you’re looking for a great camping experience.

Even though it was very cloudy when we visited and we didn’t get to enjoy the views, the owner was incredibly helpful and welcoming. The drive up the mountain was beautiful, and we still had a great experience. We look forward to coming back on a clearer day!

The site itself is great with mowed grass and good tent sites, the views are long range Mountain view, sunrise is particularly incredible! But the road condition on the property leading to the campsite is very questionable in standard SUV, we were in a newer year z71 Tahoe (8in of ground clearance) and scraped bottom 5-6 times hard on way up. The grade up is steep buts it’s the actual eroded road condition that makes it borderline not usable unless you have a lifted off road vehicle. It’s too far to the camp site to walk your gear. The host should repair this section of the road or someone will seriously damage their vehicle.

I had a great time camping at OnTop.camp. We stayed at Site 1, a peaceful, quiet, private, and absolutely beautiful campsite! I will definitely be back! The view is really spectacular with a great sunset and sunrise. Also, with the 1:00 pm check-out time, you don't feel rushed to pack up.

Must visit! Incredible views and well maintained site. We were so lucky this site was available! They aren’t kidding when they recommend 4/AWD and clearance and the host provided excellent photos and guidance for our journey up the mountain. Site is very private and fire pit is well located (we could occasionally hear the other site but that didn’t bother us, low music or breeze covered). Make sure to bring a tick remover if you bring a furry friend. We will be back! Next time we hope to stay more than 1 night. Check out Mt. Jefferson and New River for nearby hiking.

I’ve stayed here twice and would come back again. It’s a quiet, well-kept spot with good views and plenty of space. The host was easy to communicate with and helpful when needed. Access is straightforward overall, though the road in can be a bit rough in places—better suited for vehicles with some clearance. Solid option if you’re looking for a simple, peaceful place to camp.

The view was exquisite! The site itself is large and spacious. Rocky in spots to put up tents and canopy’s slight challenge. The trek up to the site is not for the faint at heart. Having an SUV is not sufficient, you need clearance and the AWD/FWD.

We camped at site 5 with a large group - unfortunately our stay fell within the state wide fire ban so we couldn’t have a fire but Jon worked with our group about refunding our firewood cost. 4x4 with clearance is a must if you don’t want to hike to site 5 (you don’t)! We will be back!
