Overview

About

Even the most learned Civil War buff will come away with something new after a visit to Brices Cross Roads. This marks the fateful spot where Major General Nathan Forest led his Confederate force of 3,500 to victory. The battlefield and nearby sights offer a unique look into America's past. Trails and rolling fields make this Mississippi park a favorite walking spot for all.

To explore the battlefield, choose from two interpretive trails and explore the grassy landscape by foot. The trails offer useful and informative signs to help visitors make sense of the battle. The impressive stone monument and cannons bring history back to life.

Although the grounds are open every day of the year, plan ahead to be sure that the nearby Visitor and Interpretive Center is open. Here you can explore a collection of Civil War artifacts and learn more about this famous battle. This battle took place just a year before the Union finally won the war.

Head to the Bethany Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church for a look at the structure that once served as a field hospital for wounded Confederate soldiers. Wander the church's cemetery, now the final resting ground for many of the men who perished in this landmark battle. These sights provide a somber look into the cost of the American Civil War.
