Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site camping guide

Overview

About

Learn all about the oldest trading post of the Navajo Nation when you visit this national historic site. Driving up to the post takes you back in time to when people had to come here to get basic supplies and all the gossip. The Rangers here are extremely knowledgeable. Learn about Native American art and get a real sense of history. Many of them have personal ties to the trading post, which adds to your visit, and you may be lucky enough to get an informal guided tour of the Hubbell family home.

This trading post is still active, so you can pick up some wonderfully unique artworks and gifts. Check out the beautiful jewelry, pottery, and priceless hand-woven Navajo rugs. You can really tell some spent hundreds of hours weaving them. The selection is superb, and if you've shopped for Native rugs before, you'll recognize some true deals here.

Because this is a functioning trading post, you can also stock up on groceries and other necessities to take back to your campsite. Hipcamp can help you find a great campsite on a high desert ranch or on a Zuni mountain. Pitch your tent with awesome views of a towering mesa, opt for a wooded campsite, or even some glamping.
