Smith Ridge Harper&#x27;s Ferry

The cabin was very well heated for hours in 30 degree and below weather. Well stocked with supplies, and Matt was helpful in providing freshly chopped firewood, lighter, and a grill! A big supply of drinking water and coffee. Had a great time having a bonfire the whole night. Porta potty was pretty decent too. Matt seemed like a cool host in general, and gave us great suggestions for hiking! Would recommend to anyone and I would probably hang out with him if he invited us.

This was my group’s second time camping at Smith Ridge, hosted by Matt. This time I had a bigger group (7 people, 5 tents, and room for more). We had a great time again, and the onsite firewood we were able to purchase kept us warm during the 25 degree weather! Another plus was the porta-potty across from where we parked so we didn’t have to dig a hole in the snow. My group will 100% keep returning to camp here!

Great spot for a last second trip to the mountains and very close to the Appalachian trail. Matt made sure I had everything I needed for my stay and I will definitely try to make another trip here soon!

I loved camping at Smith Ridge! Matt was a gracious host and very accommodating. He brought us firewood and even upgraded our campsite when the first one didn’t fit our needs. The camps grounds are very beautiful and it’s such a special place. This visit was my second time at Smith Ridge and I’m excited to stay again in the future!

Would definitely camp here again. It’s great for large groups, and Matt the host was very welcoming. We especially appreciated the onsite firewood. $20 got us a beautiful fire burning from 3pm to midnight. Tables and seating were also on site so we were able to prepare our dinner to roast over the fire without haven’t to balance anything on our laps. To top the experience off, there was a spotless porta-potty at the edge of the camp’s boundary. Overall, this site was very well maintained and in a beautiful location.

Matt was hands down the greatest host we’ve ever had. He was incredibly hospitable and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. Matt’s land is great, there are a few campsites but everyone is far apart so each site has privacy. Matt was extremely helpful upon arrival— offered to help get our stuff up to the camp and provided us with firewood. Porta potty’s were clean and parking was easy. Great time overall, thanks Matt!

We loved our stay at Gracie’s Place. It’s a rustic and romantic cabin tucked in the woods, perfect for a quiet weekend escape. The host was incredibly thoughtful—he had everything we needed ready for us, including paper towels, water, firewood, and even a wine bottle opener. The cabin itself was cozy and charming. The bed was very comfy and the personal balcony gave us a sense of tranquility, surrounded by nature. It felt peaceful and remote while still being close enough to town and stores for quick trips. The only drawback is there’s a house nearby with a partial view into the curtainless window which took away a bit of our privacy. Still, the atmosphere was romantic and relaxing overall and we’d absolutely recommend this stay.

Perfect off the grid stay!

We had such a wonderful stay at Matt’s cabin! It perfectly blends the charm of the outdoors with the comfort of essential amenities. The setting was peaceful and secluded, surrounded by trees and nature sounds. The owner’s house was close behind but we didn’t hear any noise and everything still felt very private. He made sure we had everything we needed and showed us where to get firewood. We loved sipping coffee on the porch in the morning and stargazing by the fire at night. Even though it felt “off the grid,” everything was clean, comfortable, and easy to use — from the bathroom setup in the parking area and outdoor kitchen, to the heat/AC and hot shower! You can tell Matt put a lot of care into making guests feel welcome and at home. If you’re looking for a relaxing getaway that offers both rustic charm and a touch of glamping, this cabin is it. We can’t wait to come back!

A little slice of heaven

Loved staying at this little slice of heaven. Our host Matt was so accommodating and provided us with firewood and great vibes! He was great with our dog too. The cabin we stayed in was perfect - the bed was lofted with plenty of storage underneath for camp stuff. The shower had a skylight and hot water! And our view was fantastic, as the cabin is lofted up with big windows so all you can see are trees when you’re in bed. Had ac and heat, as well as a big jug of water. We will definitely be coming back, this was the perfect escape from the city. Fire pit was great too!

Cozy, clean, and simple cabin!

Matt's place is super cozy, clean, and well supplied. There's a little fire ring just outside the cabin, and the port-a-john is just a brief walk down the hill next to the parking pad. He has a countertop grill just outside the cabin that was perfect for cooking up meals. The bed was comfortable and it was lovely to wake up with views of the trees. Matt was a warm and welcoming host and very easy to communicate with. Great spot for thru hikers, or a quick visit to the Harper's Ferry area.

We had such a wonderful experience staying here! The Matt and Bobbi went above and beyond to make our stay perfect — incredibly friendly, easy to communicate with, and available whenever we needed anything. The spot itself was ideal: peaceful, private, and exactly what we were looking for. The unit was thoughtfully set up with a super comfy bed and great AC, which made it so comfortable even on warm days. We also really appreciated that the host added a lock for extra peace of mind. You can tell they truly care about their guests having a great time. Highly recommend this Hipcamp — it deserves to be discovered!

Host was great! Matt met us and showed us the site. He got us plenty of firewood for a fair price. We were also able to pickup plenty of deadwood to burn. It’s located in a great spot for access to the vineyards and a quick trip to Harpers Ferry. We also had decent mobile signal and data. For awareness, the site is near residences and you may hear vehicles on the adjacent roads. Still, we found it to be peaceful in the later hours and we enjoyed the campfire, our friends, and the stars.

We had a fantastic time staying here. The camp site is just a short walk from the parking spot. It's near a local gravel road but there are hardly any cars. The forest is really nice, the host was great, and it was the perfect spot to get away.

Loved Tent Camping here!!! Matt was super welcoming, more-than accommodated me and my friend’s spontaneous last minute trip to harper’s ferry. Bathroom was *very clean*, site was easy to find, with plenty of room to set up. Matt even helped us start a fire! Had so much fun and were sad to have only stayed one night.

We had a lovely stay at Matt’s camp— he’s the kind of host that sets the bar quite high! Within five minutes of a text, Matt was sure to pull up on his ATV with whatever we needed. From the sweet deal on firewood he offered, a specialty hot coal delivery, and the numerous supplies he so generously volunteered, we were well taken care of! He met us upon arrival, was happy to lend solid local tips (firework spots included), and even led us into town for the festivities! We were pleasantly surprised at his willingness to make our stay as wonderful as possible, and even invited us to join his family activities. Yes, the site is technically a backyard—and a bit pricey—but it was pretty private compared to nearby sites and close to everything we wanted to explore. Thanks, Matt—no request for a good review needed. You earned your stars!!

Treehouse vibes

This cabin was pure magic. Nestled in the woods just minutes from Harpers Ferry, it felt like a true retreat—but with all the comforts you could want. The host was incredibly kind and welcoming, greeting us with local recommendations and even grilling up some sausages in the evening. You can tell how much heart he’s put into the space—he built the cabin himself using recycled and reclaimed materials from the property and old homes, and it shows in every unique, thoughtful detail. Windows on three sides make it feel like you’re sleeping in a treehouse, completely surrounded by nature. We had our coffee in the morning and watched hummingbirds just outside the window. There’s also a fire pit, cozy sleeping area, and some much appreciated AC during the heat wave. Our dog absolutely loved it too. We spent our days tubing, hiking, and exploring the historic town of Harpers Ferry, and it was always such a joy to come back to the site. It’s whimsical, woodsy, and wonderfully convenient—a perfect blend of adventure and serenity. We’ll definitely be back.

Matt's camp site was awesome in many ways: clean site, nice little stream winding through, outhouse on site, close proximity to Harper's Ferry. Matt was up on the hill close enough to help if needed, but far enough to have privacy. Dog friendly is always helpful and my pregnant wife was happy with everything as well. Would recommend and thanks Matt!

We had the BEST time here. Matt (& his family) are fantastic - super sweet and helpful w/ great hiking recs. And definitely get your firewood from them! Perfect spot for when you want to be secluded, but not feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere (which we needed for the first-time camper in our group). Super easy to get to the Appalachian Trail, some nearby mom & pops, and Harpers Ferry (which is adorable). As stated by Matt & in some other reviews - the terrain is steep and rocky so be mindful of that. And make sure you bring the right car to make it up the hill.
