Loved the view, the cows across the street and the kitties at the farm. Toilets were clean. Overall great experience even though it rained the entire visit.

Valerie and Darren were absolutely gracious, welcoming, and friendly. Their space was our space. They met us in the driveway and immediately showed us around the farmette and camping locations. My 14 year old and I choose a shady spot near the back of the property well suited for our introvert personalities. Darren helped us get tinder, kindling, and firewood for a fire and helped us move a table closer to our spot. We were also invited to use as much as the space as we wanted. We were not limited to the shady location we chose.
One day my son was able to spend time with kittens too young to be adopted out yet. On our last full day one of the sows had piglets we were able to visit when they were just a few hours old. We waded/swam in the river and walked a small portion of the Creeper Trail, both of which were a two minute walk from the farm. Good drive to Elizabeton, TN, and only an hour drive from Banner Elk, NC. Absolutely would enjoy Valerie and Darren's hospitality again!

Great location for taking advantage of the Creeper Trail , Damascus, and Abingdon. The hosts are great, very accommodating. For the price, you will have a hard time finding a better deal.

Darren & Valerie's place was a great spot to camp near Damascus and the Virginia Creeper trail. They are very gracious hosts and provided any thing we might have needed. The campsite is in their yard on a quiet country road with little noise and dark, open , beautiful sky. There is a fire pit and picnic table that you can use and it made for a great overnight stay for us.
They have a business making trail mix and jerky that our group and family would recommend that you try. Multiple types of meat/game animal with fruits and nuts mixed in. Good stuff for a day on the trail hiking or biking!
I would recommend their place to anyone needing a camp stay in this area of Virginia.

We didn’t get to meet Valerie because she was out of town, but Darren was a great host and made us feel at home. The weather was uncooperative so we had to leave early, but if we are ever back in that area we will definitely stay again. Our stay was better than expected and we can’t recommend this place enough.

2nd stay here. So grateful to be out of a metro environment and another bonus feature, it's WIFI FREE!!.
Looking at the hogs, piglets, cat is soothing to me, contemplating the mysteries of animals.
I jumped away the stress of my day on their full size trampoline. I sleep well 7 -8 hours unlike my 5 at home.
Expect to hear the roosters at dawn.
This is a quality place.

Site was very well maintained, host told us we could pitch wherever we wanted. Area feels safe, and only a short drive from Damascus.
Valerie was really helpful and made recommendations for places to go/eat/swim.
Cell service on T-Mobile was zero, lost it about 5 minutes before arriving. Make sure you note down the address before losing service.
No issue with cell service on sprint though.
Got a tour of the hog farm, really cool to see.
Toilets on site are very clean, and we had farm raised sausage and eggs from the chickens for breakfast.
Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area.

Hosts very friendly, especially cat and dog! Site was nice. Beautiful area, big dark sky for stars. On a farm, so expect roosters in the morning, but that comes with the territory. Not very private, as other people said, but that didn’t matter much to us, and knew that going in, so no surprises there. Great price, nice place, friendly people, don’t know what else you could ask for.

Valerie, the camphost, is super sweet & accommodating! I will definitely go back when i come thru Damascus again! This site is little farm right between Damascus & Abingdon. Perfectly located.

Valerie & Darren have a beautiful place! We were greeted warmly and appreciated the convenience for our short visit to Damascus. I was particularly charmed by Dust, the friendly 3-legged cat.

This was a perfect getaway for me and my pug. Everyone was so kind and helpful. We had wonderful talks and laughs. I was given directions each day for a new place to discover if I wanted and Damascus is one of my new favorite places to be. I would love to stay here again.

Great place for the kids! While it did feel a bit like camping in somebody’s front yard (they have plans to expand in the future), having friendly cats and cheeky chickens running around really made for a fun, laid back atmosphere. Valerie was a fantastic host. When we arrived, she told the kids that they could meet the 10 day old kittens, but only once the tent was up—this was all the motivation they needed!
This is right on the Virginia Creeper Trail, so it’s perfect for bringing your own bikes. Otherwise, (as we did) rent them from Damascus.

This is a great spot to camp! Lots of room, the hosts are very flexible if you are arriving late like I did, and it's unique and fun to wake up with the chickens, literally. :-)

Valerie was a gracious host. We came in for a quick over night. She allowed us to use their families indoor bathroom and provided us with free firewood. Waking up to pigs and chickens over coffee was a fun addition. It isn't as private as I expected but otherwise a fine experience.

Very welcoming and accommodating! Played with some lovely kittens and cats during my stay. Close to the Creeper Trail which I didn't get to explore much but seems great. And nearby is Mt Rogers/Grayson Highlands State Park where there are very friendly wild ponies. I had a quick stay on the farm, but overall, great experience, would recommend/use again if I'm in the area.

Creeper Trail TENT Camping
Genesis Farm is a little slice of tranquility right on the Virginia Creeper Trail, about five minutes outside of Damascus, VA. Owners Darren and Valerie are the picture of southern hospitality and were eager to help with whatever I needed.
Upon arrival, we were greeted with all the sights, sounds, and smells of a country farm. We made it just in time for feeding the animals and Valerie was more than happy to let my kids join in the fun. Genesis Farm is a working hog farm and they have sausage and pork belly, along with farm fresh eggs available for purchase.
We set up our tent by the barn on a level clearing in the front yard. The location was great, but if you don't want to be located next to the barn there are a few other places around the property to set up. The kids enjoyed the play set and trampoline that was conveniently located right next to the picnic table and communal fire ring.
Within a three minute walk, you can get to the Virginia Creeper Trail, which is flat and well marked with gravel. There is also a beautiful river that flows alongside the property where you can go tubing or fishing. My kids enjoyed it! The landscape is mountainous and full of beautiful wild flowers and lush green tree canopies.
The bathroom and shower is located inside the house, you can refill water bottles at the sink, and firewood is provided at no charge.
Possible Cons: there are lots of animals. Among which are cats, dogs, hogs, and chickens. So, if you don't like farm life this may not be the place for you. Also, it's not very private.
Pros: It is the perfect spot for through hikers and the Appalachian Trail runs right down the middle of Damascus, so it's a great spot for camping. You have great amenities like flush toilets, hot showers, and free firewood. Plus, you can't go wrong with hosts like Darren and Valerie. Their hospitality and kindness are unmatched and we felt right at home there!
