It has taken a while to finally camp at Nathan’s Mountain view camp spot( no 1) and we were so happy to be there. A full moon, falling leaves, total peace and quiet, it was perfect. Drinking our morning coffee watching a hawk flying across the grass right in-front of us. The camping area is as clean as a whistle . We have a 20ft ford e350 campervan conversion and we managed the track up to the site easily to site 1, probably wouldn’t have managed it to 2. Thank you .

As others mentioned, the road up to the site is steep, but my rear wheel drive camper van had no trouble with it. Once at the site I met Nathan and Anna who were just finishing cutting the grass around the site. The site sits on a little knoll with enough flat space for several tents or campers. The site was clean, pleasant, and quiet. And dark. At night we had great views of the milky way and satellites, serenades by the night insects. I recommend this spot. And, if your purpose in staying here is to visit the Channels, it is only a mile up the road.

Hipcamp was exactly as described & we had a great time. Although the road in was steep, it was short & my rear wheel drive van made it just fine. We enjoyed the privacy & beautiful mountain views . Will definitely be back when we can hike the Channels.

Site 1 was very beautiful in the snow. I wish I arrived earlier / left late so I can fully see it in the sun. There was a bench and a fire ring, and felt private. My AWD could not make it past the second steep elevation so a 4WD is necessary. Nathan greeted me and provided me with plenty of wood that came with a starter even when I came late at 10pm, and was very considerate to offer me a spot in their farm to park in case my car couldn’t make it, given the winter conditions. The site is very conveniently close to the channels.

Nice secluded spot. If planning for the second spot, 4x4 may be needed. Pretty steep and slippery when wet
Potable bathroom was spotless. Lots of deer sighted, and plenty of cows mooing in the distance to put you to sleep

It was a beautiful and peaceful spot. We made a last minute booking and received an immediate response with good directions. I do wish it had a bigger sign at the gate because we passed it first and turned around at the homestead.

Clean sites with a view. Well maintained and feels secluded. Nice people. Don’t miss Goshen Homestead down the road. Farm fresh eggs and a lot more. Loved it. The Channels are a mile down the road. Beautiful hike with a couple views. I highly recommend Channels Edge Campground.

It was challenging to find and very difficult to get my all wheel drive up the hill to the campsite. I actually had to park in a little spot part way up the hill and carry all the gear up the rest of the way. Otherwise, it was a good, we'll maintained site.

Site 2- Wooded Canopy
We had both site 1 and 2 open during our stay. They are adjacent and 1 is a bit more level and convenient to portapotty. I’d recommend site 2 for vehicles with increased clearance and more robust campers.

We had the place all to ourselves and the dogs were free to roam and chase animals. It was the perfect spot for a few nights to explore the area. I have already told friends to go and stay there and hike the channels. Super pretty part of the world!

The site is convenient and the host is nice but the space isn't very private or big. The site is right next to the drive to go back to the other sites and there isn't much flat space for our tent. The best space and the flattest part is on the drive, but that needs to be kept clear so other guests can use it to access there sites.
There is a nice firepit, picnic table and a wooden bench at this site. The port-a-potty is close. There aren't any close trees within the site for hammock camping.

This site was great, and very clean....even the port-a-john was cleaned (and stocked with TP). If you reserve Site 1, pay attention to the owners comment about the path through Site 1 leading to camp 2. There is plenty of room off the path, you just have to be mindful of placement.

We loved the seclusion of the camp spot and the proximity to the Great Channels! Unfortunately we couldn't get our vehicle up the hill because of the recent rain (with 4 wheel drive) so we had to lug up all of our equipment from the bottom of the hill. That said, it was a great little spot and Nathan kindly provided firewood and a lovely little spot to camp for the night.

Awesome, very private set up with fire rings, tables, and portalet. Really spectacular sunsets and great access to the Channels. Highly recommend.

Great spot for secluded and primitive camping. Site 1 is the better of the two. The port o shitter is an excellent bonus, and clean. Was able to fit a 10 ft off road camper and jeep with no problem.
Had an issue with the cable gate being broke and thoughts and security (being out in the middle of nowhere and leaving camping gear out) but contacted Nathan and within minutes he was out repairing the gate.
The road to get here (US 80) is kind of shady, but go slow and look out for on coming traffic. The Channels trailhead is close and a great hike.
Definitely recommend this place as a base to explore SW Virginia.

The privacy was amazing and my dog loved running around and enjoying nature. The views were great. Nathan was very helpful on access and making sure everything was good for us. The road to get there was quite steep. Just FYI. I would think you may need either 4 or all wheel drive.

Such a pretty spot! Especially in the fall or winter with the views of campsite 2, we loved waking up to that view. GPS coordinates took us right there. Even tho service is sketchy driving there, I had 5 bars at the site. Would definitely recommend and will be back

Beautiful outlook campsite. Instructions to get in were helpful and once on site it was easy to set everything up. There is a potter potty and as far as they go that was the nicest one I’ve ever used. There are useable fire pits which is perfect, and some easily useable firewood off to the sides. The sites are pretty close to each other but we were the only ones and it was perfect. It’s very close to the channels which makes it easy to get there early in the morning which was great.

we were pretty bummed to get to the campsite and find that someone else was in our spot (#2). not sure if this was a reservation error or if they just thought we were no shows and decided to move from their spot to ours (we got there around 10pm). thankfully there was another site open (#1) so we stayed there, but it wasn’t the most level, and a little challenging with the ladder of our rooftop tent. site 2 definitely seems to have more level ground (hence why we chose it, but alas). i will agree with other reviewers that it’s a bit of a steep road in, but it is gravel most of the way — we were in a jeep and had no issues accessing sites 1 & 2, but the roads up to the rest of the sites looked steep and mostly grassy (from what we could see at night).
getting into the gate was no problem, the sites are clearly marked, and the proximity to the channels is a big perk.

The site was awesome! No one else was on the mountain with us so it was nice and secluded. By the entrance was a beautiful view where we enjoyed a beautiful sunset. It was quite windy and cloudy the rest of the night, which is outside of anyones control. Other than that, such a great time and highly recommend!
Bonus points for being SUPER close to channels :)

The small campground is in a wonderful location and is quiet in the evenings. The description does accurately list that the campground is for suvs and 4 wheel drives. The sites are not very big and an 8 person tent would not fit on most of them.

David's land was nice and remote. We had a front wheel drive vw and made it up to site 2 which was the flattest site there. The sites 3-5 were steep and not graveled so glad we didn't choose one of those. We were the only people there, exept the bear who came for a visit after dinner. Our dog scared it away. We were able to get up early and get to the Channels for a nice hike. and find a parking spot
