NYE 2022
Our stay at Tara Vineyards was fantastic. Susan and here staff were very friendly and accommodating. Upon our arrival we were given the option to explore the property and camp anywhere we saw fit. We were also offered to option to camp near the pavilion and join their NYE celebration (for a small reasonable fee), which we chose to do. We also purchased a bottle of their wine which we absolutely enjoyed. We recommend this campsite!

My family and I enjoyed this camp ground. It was peaceful. The ground dogs are definitely a plus because ofcourse they keep us safe, it was very comforting. It was a first for my Fiance and 5 year old and they can't wait to go back. Camp sites weren't mapped out or marked however, the ladies definitely helped every way that they could. The website offers a lot of detail on the things to do, we decided to opt out of the scratch kitchen so we could really get the experience but it was BEAUTIFUL ❤️❤️ definitely going to go next time around. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Primitive camping in great location
Susan was incredibly responsive and accommodating. The vineyard is absolutely gorgeous! We only stayed for one night as part of a cross-country road trip, so we unfortunately didn't get the chance to do a wine tour/tasting, or sample the chef's creations. Will definitely enjoy all those things the next time we come back!

Egg Hunt for adults 😁
Had a blast during the adult egg hunt and won lots of prizes!!! The food was delicious, loved the wine tasting and bought many bottles of wine for the road. The food was exceptionally delicious and the music was great.

It was ok. Pros: Delicious wine Beautiful views If camping: pick a spot down the trail, they're are private and pretty Cons: The location has 5 large dogs that wonder the property and bark for hours in the middle of the night. Don't book any extras online!! They don't have a way to schedule it so your on their time if they even have any availabilities.

Perfect for a getaway!
Loved staying at this location! Very close to town and Purtis Creek State Park. Judy met me for check-in and was also wonderful and informative. Nice, quiet, and safe. Would stay here again! Especially to see the llamas, Machu and Picchu.

Where to start..... Fantastic view from my dinner table, super friendly staff, nicest-most knowledgeable waitress, great wine, the single best naked burger ever, and the actual camping was good too. I’m going back asap

My girlfriend and I happened upon this enchanting vineyard on our coast to coast trek and we were lucky enough to have been greeted by the charming & knowledgable Judy who so happens to also be from Southern California. Excellent wine, beautiful landscape, friendly critters, and a clean well kept bathroom and shower. Not much else to be said besides was our favorite camping stop across our 9 state adventure. We will be back!

We’ll definitely be back!
Wow. What a gem! It has everything a state camping site has (a water tap, toilet, picnic table, fire ring...) and so much more. We camped next to the vines and easily accessed all the amenities. And we could drive our car right next to our site for ease. It felt rustic and luxurious all at once. My kids loves all the dogs running around and the llamas! The owners and workers were super nice and helpful. The second night we sat outside at the winery restaurant and sipped wine while the kids played around the property. There’s a state pro ten minutes away. The dogs barked a bit at night but eventually calmed down. And they have lots of firewood if you don’t want to bring your own. We’ll definitely be back.

Private quiet vineyard camping
It was really mellow and the host was super chill. She said we could pretty much camp anywhere so we found a nice tilled field full of grasses. We were the only ones there and we had bought some wine before making camp. We loved it all so much we are planning a return soon!

Camping amongst the Grapevines
Beautiful rolling grassy areas for camping, surrounded by rows of grapevines, a beautiful guest house and a wine bar. Clean bathrooms and some lighting around the llama pen was helpful. Very tidy and the crew at Tara were very accommodating. Special shoutout to Carly and Caleb for the extra attention, they really enhanced our experience. The cabernet was our crew's favorite, followed by the Carriage house and the affogato.

Discriminatory winery
WARNING: DISCRIMINATORY WINERY To start off, my group arrived at the winery to check In for the campsite around 2:45. We sat at a table for over 45 minutes also called the owner of the hipcamp twice and he did not answer the phone call either time. I tried to leave a voicemail but his voicemail box was full. We finally got tired out waiting to check in so after that 45 minutes we left. After settling down our group decides to go back up to winery. This is where it really goes downhill fast. We sit down for about 10 minutes and no one comes to greet us. I walk in to the building where the hostess is and politely let her know that we had just sat down and wasn’t sure if she had seen us. She notified me that they were printing off more menus for us and she would be there shortly. Once she arrived to the table about 20 minutes after that conversation, she lets our table know that the winery is not ready for us yet and that they serve a different style then most restaurants. That they like to serve “slow and steady” so it might take a long time for them to be ready for our table. Mind you there were only 4 other tables there and each table only had three-five people and the staff couldn’t even bring us menus! I was very shocked but I tell her okay and ask for menus once again. She tells me she will bring them shortly. Finally after another 30 minutes goes by, I look online at the menu and tell her to just bring me a bottle of the blueberry blanc. Again she tells me it may take a while but I agree and let her know I want it anyways. No more than one minute after I asked for my bottle, the table next to me asks for the SAME bottle of wine. They receive their bottle in under two minutes. Way BEFORE us! Even though we had asked her for the bottle first. At last, we realized some type of discrimination was happening against us. My friend in our group approached our waitress Carly with a question. “What style of serving do you guys use because if I understood that, maybe I could understand why that table right next to us got the bottle of wine before us even though we had asked first.” The waitress Carly snapped back at her and told her that her question “was only prolonging the process”. How RUDE! We were all shocked about how rude she was. Over an hour goes by since we sat down and we finally get our first bottle of wine. We still don’t have menus but started noticing that the 3 tables that arrived after us had all been greeted within 5 minutes; MUCH quicker then we had been greeted! They even got menus (which we still did not have). Again Carly comes by and I ask her for charcuterie board (that I had to look online at the menu for) and another bottle of the same wine; I then asked her if I could book a reservation for a wine tour. I had messaged the owner of the hipcamp several days beforehand and after three day’s of asking, he finally advised me to talk to Terri about booking a tour. Again the owner was no help and didn’t seem to care about us wanting a tour or our satisfaction with our camping experience. Anyways, Carly lets me know that she will send Terri over to schedule it but that they weren’t doing anymore tours for Saturday and that they would be available on Sunday. Once again, thirty minutes rolls by and Terri never shows up. Once again, I completely get ignored about my inquiry. At this point I’m so frustrated with the service, the discrimination, the bad attitude, and the lack of help, that we ask to cancel our order so we can just leave. The only difference between our table and the rest was that we were the only people of color in the entire place. I hate to even imagine that happening in this day and age but I witnessed it happen to my friends in my group. We talked to the campers next to us about their experience at the winery and they said it was completely different and that they got served right away. Never in my life would I imagine going to a restaurant, let alone a winery, and being the last served, getting no menus, being disrespected by our waitress, and having every other table served ahead of us. To watch my friend cry at night because the the waitress was so obviously rude and discriminatory, was heartbreaking to witness. I will NEVER spend another dime at this discriminatory place and I advise everyone else who reads this to do the same.

Great camping in the vineyard!
Great find when I was looking for same day reservations. The winery was open which added another great dimension for music, food, wine if you wanted it, but could easily camp way away from it as well. Will definitely be going back!

It’s was okay.....
So in the the description it says fishing, and river;stream.... I texted the host “Patrick” and asked if there was a body of water on site he said their is a spring fed pond...well the spring fed pond looks like nothing as the winery. It’s completely over grown. You can’t even walk to it. So NO fishing. Now it’s also listed showers are available..well we had a Porto-potty! That’s it. Even after asking him when we arrived we got no response and the staff had no clue we even had a reservation! So I would avoid the extra add ons; who knows if they would have even had it when we arrived. The vineyard is beautiful, but I would expect the same standards for the camps sites. Also more responsive host. We didn’t even stay our full time!

Beautiful landscape with nice to ha
This is a great place to go to enjoy a bit of the outdoors while having amenities like a restaurant with quite hood wine that’s made there. Camping Spots were just kind of wherever you wanted, and that had its charm for sure. Fire pits were lovely by the restaurant, and for me, I would have really liked to have had a fire pit at my spot near the vineyard. I could have built a fire in the ground, but that felt unsafe. Overall I had a great first hipcamp experience. I’ll be going back for sure. Really pretty area near Dallas.

Not quite as good as we hoped.
Tara Vineyard is beautiful! We were really excited when we showed up. It was a little confusing to figure out where to check in and where to set up camp, but we were lucky that there were only three other groups camping there that evening. I could see how it could very quickly get crowded and create a complete lack of privacy. There were no dumpsters to put up trash which was a little frustrating. Overall great location for camping, awesome being super close to the winery. The winery itself is where my rating plummets. We ordered wine tasting for two and one charcuterie board, and it took an hour and fifteen minutes to get served!! There were only five other tables, and whenever we asked about our order, our waiter seemed just as baffled as we were that our food and wine still wasn’t out. We paid a very steep amount for good wine, but the service was so horrible that it wasn’t worth it. The female waitress was incredibly rude when we tried to kindly ask about our order. When we ordered a bottle of wine later, it took over 20 minutes for it to get brought out and then they didn’t bring any glasses. I had to walk up to the counter another 20 minutes later to ask for glasses and the waitress had a horrible attitude. It was great to be able to have my dog there off the leash. Truly a pretty good place to camp, but really wouldn’t recommend going to the winery unless you are very patient and have all day.

Breathtaking but imperfect!
This is a beautiful place with lots of great amenities...The vineyard & historic home are breathtaking, the llamas are cute & friendly, & the staff were really amiable...all in all we really enjoyed our stay, especially for the great price.....but there were a few disappointing aspects: staff were not knowledgeable about the camping (where to camp, what amenities were currently available, & keeping bathroom/shower unlocked & available). Porto potty was always available, but when it says you have access to a flush toilet & a shower in the morning you don’t want to walk up from your camp to find you are locked out by someone who didn’t realize campers are supposed to have bathroom access. Also, we spent over $300 at the winery (great food & wine without having to drive home afterwards was a bonus)...so we were told we could stay after hours to have a fire at the community fire pit (since they close earlier on Sundays they didn’t have one started for us)! But when the owner arrived we were told we could buy a bundle of wood for $20 if we wanted a fire (as was listed on the website)...I didn’t think this was good customer service so we opted to drag up a bunch of wood from the forest & even left some for future guests! Also, the last night they told us we would be locked out of the main bathroom and then left us access to another toilet that was totally clogged...ew!

The winery is very cool... great layout/vibe, indoor/outdoor, multiple firepits, would 100% recommend checking it out. I feel like the camping is not really well defined... didn't have a clear sense where we should/could set up, got contradicting info on having fires at the campsite (we ended up just going up to the main winery after hours and using one of the fire rings there). Talked to another group and they had the same feeling. Would be helpful to make up a quick map of where to/not to camp on the property? maybe provide some small metal fire rings at a couple of defined camping spots? Overall was a good experience, but a little extra effort could take the camping portion to the next level.

Enjoyed it. Check in needs work.
I arrived at around 6:30 PM on a Saturday for an overnight with my teardrop camper. The grounds were very well kept. When I arrived I was not sure where to go so I messaged the contact person that Hipcamp instructed me to. I told them I just arrived and did not know where to go. That was at 6:47 PM. After waiting for a while with no response, I decided to walk to the restaurant and see if anyone could give me directions as to where to set up etc. I approached a young lady who was busing a table and introduced myself telling her that I had rented a campsite through Hipcamp and was wondering who I should talk to to check in and where to go. Her answer was basically. "oh.... so, yeah. You are supposed to talk to me and you can camp down there." as she pointed to the white house at the bottom of the hill. I asked her where exactly she wanted me to camp. She stated, " Anywhere." I asked for clarification and she seemed not to know much about the details until she said "I don't know much about the Hipcamp part of this so........yeah. If you want to camp at the bottom of the hill in front of the last row vines, that seems to be a popular spot." I thanked her and found a spot where she suggested. I texted the contact person again through Hipcamp and informed them that I had made contact with an employee and I got the info I was looking for but they did not seem to informed about the details. As I am eating my dinner after setting up, around 8:06 PM, I get a response back fro the contact. "Hi hope you settled in! Let us know if you have questions" I informed them that I had indeed settled in and was fine. Never did find the bathrooms or the fire pit as described in the posting though. Great venue, will need to try the food and wine. As for the clarity of where to go when arriving and orientation, might need some work. Will definitely be back to give it another shot.

Great Relaxing Stay!
The vineyard was absolutely beautiful and I would highly recommend staying at Tara. The wine and staff were polite and courteous. We went for a quick getaway and it was exactly what we needed - laid back and relaxing. Just a heads up, the RV spot with the electrical hookups is hardly level. They need to bring in some gravel to level the spot out. Other than that our stay was wonderful and we will likely be back!
