We're happily retired partners loving life in this wonderful oasis... And working hard to make it a bit better for our animals and guests, every single day. Mickey's recently retired from 21 years traveling the world with International Joint Special Forces and Vicky's a Cordon Bleu Chef who also recently retired. We are living our dream "retirement" in this gorgeous wooded Texas Hill-Country, caring for and playing with all sorts of fun animals and welcoming lovely people to our ranch/wildlife preserve/nature- resort, personally ensuring everyone has a memorable experience, from customized horseback-riding experiences (everything from trail rides, to horseback riding lessons to weddings and vows-renewals on horseback), to serving as concierge to preparing that special "made to order" fresh country breakfasts, champagne brunches and romantic or fun meals and treats like chocolate covered strawberries for any special occasion, including anniversaries and birthdays.

NEW / IMPORTANT PREFACE: We want to say up front that we take very seriously our responsibility to do everything within our reach to keep everyone as safe and healthy as as we can, while you have a relaxing, health-building and fun time with us!. This includes the following: First of all is our location: We only have 9 cabins / suites for rent which are all private and spaced apart and in middle of 30 acres of fields and woods, so plenty of room to enjoy the outdoors without any human contact. Then, all cooking can be done in cabin and/or on grills we provide, so no need to go to any restaurants... Even all our "extra-fun" Animal Adventures and Horseback Riding activities have been modified so they are "private" - just for you, by reservation and conducted outdoors and at "safe-distance"... Upon each checkout, we ask all guests to cooperate in the safe-stay" procedures, with 3 simple steps: (1) wash their dishes with disinfecting soap we provide, air-dry and put them back in cabinets with doors closed, (2) put linens in plastic bags we provide and, seal and put by the door so we can promptly remove and(3) take all garbage to dumpster . Then we come in with face masks and spray every single surface with organic disinfectant and let the cabin air out while it takes effect, then go in and clean with disinfectant soap, all laundry is separately bagged and separately washed & dried in high heat. After cabins have been all cleaned out, we re-set beds with fresh linens and towels, new trash bags, cleaned / disinfected ac filters and filled up new coffee condiments. A final disinfecting of floors and doors are locked so no one can come in till you get here. Our location is also ideal: At Home Away From Home Ranch, it feels like you are a million miles away from everything, yet only 10 minutes from Main Street of picturesque Boerne in the heart of the Texas Hill-Country, close to all grocery stores, Walmart, etc as well as all the fun activities in San Antonio, Kerrville, Fiesta Texas, Bandera, Sea World, etc. Bring your pets, your kids, family - or run away and don't bring anyone! Just enjoy our heavily wooded yet fenced-in, and manicured hideaway with plenty of trails and fields to run in. Our dozens of animals are very social - it's like an open petting zoo! You can enjoy all our animals, from African Boers (and bottle babies), to miniature donkeys, ponies, mini-pigs, puppies, etc., We have 9 different, "one-of-a-kind" cabins of different sizes and prices, comfortably housing up to 40 "campers" with all the comforts of home (thick posturopedic mattresses and high-end linens, bathrooms complete with thick plush towels, shampoo, etc, fully equipped kitchens with coffee makers, refrigerators, fresh ground coffee, cream, etc., dining options with in-cabin and in-nature tables, complete with dishes, silverware, etc., - even wine glasses & free Netflix! ) yet each cabin has plenty of privacy / woods, and are just a few steps away from your parking spaces. This first cabin, Hansel & Gretel, is the most private, tucked into the farthest corner of the woods, with lovely views from your porch, with majestic oaks, big cedars, campfire & BBQ grill. Whatever you would like, we can probably give you a great getaway, from total privacy all the way to DOING IT ALL FOR YOU: From bringing magic to quick getaways with intimate/romantic candle-lit dinner under the stars, to anniversary surprises like chocolate covered strawberries and wine, birthday parties, or an unforgettable Hill Country wedding with hundreds of guests - All especially customized just for You; all set in hundreds of beautiful live-oaks of a national nature preserve... This is a wonderful stand-alone cabin in the middle of the woods with full kitchen, a room with a very comfortable queen size bed, a rollout couch and a crawl in loft with a full size mattress ideal for up top 6 people. This cozy cabin has one deck and a screen in porch, it is just amazing to just have your coffee in the morning while you see goats, donkeys and chickens roaming around. We do have available Gourmet Meals as well as private Trail Riding/Horseback Riding and Animal Adventure. We are NOT a traditional trailer park - and will never be! We understand that some people may think being in nature is to back up, hook up & "camp" in a row of look-alike camp-sites with a lot of other people on either side of you, but that is not what we are nor offer. Instead we preserve the opportunity to have a brand new experience, living for a few days in the woods (or the fields if you prefer) of our WILDLIFE PRESERVE, ANIMAL RESCUE SANCTUARY AND HORSE RANCH - Yes it is as unique and magical as it sounds... And we do so by only giving a maximum of a couple of 4 RVs a chance to come at the same time (4 people per site) - Likewise for tent campers - just a few. Cabins? Only 9 in over an acre! - And this is over 30-acres. That preserves the rest of the space for nature and ranching - which is why you - or anyone else would want to come, right? :-) That doesn’t mean we don't appreciate our guests! We bend over backward to ensure you have a nice time - which I think you can see from all our reviews on this and all other sites which average 5 stars, that we do. As far as trees... yep we do have tons of beautiful 100-year old oaks, cedars, etc and some have lower branches than others, but there are 3 lovely places with great views to set up even the largest RV, with 30 or 60 amp and water hook ups You can pick any spot you want to camp and we can help RVs get set up with electric and water which are available in a few lovely spots on property. Of course, with tents you can set up anywhere, so you have many more options, but with a pop-up or small camper you will be just fine as they aren’t that tall... Pets are welcome but must be declared and paid fofor up front (a small pet fee/donation is paid directly to HomeAway before arrival) and "good neighbor" rules must be followed. Please feel free to ask any questions you wish - we live on site and are here for you 24/7. Whatever your choice of getaway, if you are looking for a lovely and safe getaway with accommodating hosts and friendly little animals roaming around, you will enjoy your stay with us :-)

Great place to camp with kids (ages 4-7) (playground & animal adventure). The owners are beyond kind and thoughtful. For tent goers don’t forget your potties bc there are none available. Also, not clear on where to put your tent, but nonetheless it was great. We will be back.

First and foremost, the Exotic Bird Exhibit is magical!!!! The birds are clearly well cared for and trust Mickey, so it's really fun to spend time with them in a happy environment. My six-year-old son is really into exotic animals, and, to be frank, he's hard to impress. He usually expects to run free with the animals and hold all of them, but he is disappointed when he can only use two fingers to touch an iguana for a second, etc. Here, he was able to safely hold exotic animals without causing stress to the animals, and he is still happy about it two days later. We've watched the videos about 17 times. Animals roamed the property, so we woke up to chickens outside the front patio. Again, magical! The cabins are charming, and much thought is put into having everything you might need. The hosts are kind and accommodating; we are already planning another trip there. One thing to mention, which I wouldn't consider a negative, more of a consideration. If you are bringing a dog with you, their dogs stay a ways behind the Lindavista cabin. The cabin itself is SO cozy (and the tub is SO relaxing after a long day), but there was a bit of barking, my dog included. Nothing aggressive, just dogs being dogs, but a consideration depending on your dog's temperament.

It’s family friendly camp ground. There are plenty of domesticated animals there such as donkeys, goats, turkeys, and horses. There are also free roaming chickens. The animals all seemed friendly and I got some really cute pics of my kids with the goats. There are also some beautiful trees there and it could be a very cool backdrop for photos. The cabins are rustic but have comfortable beds, tv, wifi and fans/ac. Would definitely come back.

The main cabin was great however I was disappointed to pay $100 cleaning fee and asked to take all bedding and towels used outside, and take all trash to a dumpster before leaving. The ranch is ok but the website definitely makes you think it’s nicer than what it is. Keep also in mind that there is no cell service and not much information when you arrive about the activities offered. Ask before arriving.

Horseback Camping In the Woods

It was great! Victoria and Miguel were awesome hosts and the land was super nice. The pasture was super spacious so we didn't have to worry about any of the other campers. We got the home made breakfast and it was amazing, highly recommend. We had a great weekend and will definitely be coming back at some point!

HomeAway Ranch & Wildlife Preserve is not set up to properly serve tent campers. If you are going to charge $75.00 or more you must have some type of restrooms. Tent campers should not need to drive 5 miles back into town to use a restroom .

Hill Country Camp & Horseback Ride

Victoria was extremely nice and welcoming. Offered breakfast tacos for the eclipse which was convenient and delicious. The cabins on top of the hill seemed very nice from the outside. We camped down in a tent in a field for the eclipse. We booked on Thursday 4/4 for our trip Sunday thru Tuesday the following week. Unfortunately we found out about there being no toilet due to unforeseen circumstances after booking - wish that info would’ve been adjusted in the description before booking. We thought based on the listing we would be close to animals, but we only saw 1 donkey the whole time we were there which was disappointing. Probably should book the $120 animal tour if you want to see animals (the price benefits the animal sanctuary I believe so money is going to good cause). Location of the camp was great - very close to gas, restaurants, etc. Never found where the water pump was - asked and was directed to just use sink (where the pump goes into) in the kitchen area which was fine for filling water, but would’ve been nice to have pump for washing face, brushing teeth etc since didn’t want to get the kitchen sink dirty. Check in was a bit confusing. We waited in our car as instructed for 10 min for someone to come out but no one did. We ended up seeing someone at a house a bit up the hill and walked over there. I would come back if staying in the cabins instead of tent camping.

We booked here for the 2024 eclipse, upon booking the host indicated that the price was now $75/night (up from the $35 on the site). That wasn’t great but I figured it was event surge pricing and rolled with it. Then shortly before our trip we received a message that there would not be any toilets or showers available, and were encouraged to buy our own portable toilet from Amazon :(. When we were arriving we were also directed to a large open field camp area, however we had decided to go here because it had what was described as private wooded camp sites. When I asked about the wooded campsites, the host said those would cost more?! But we decided we wanted to stay in the woods anyway. Upon arriving, however I would not describe the wooded campsites, as private in any way. There were cabins and other campers all around. Overall the host was very nice but the conflicting information and the lack of any kind of toilets was totally unacceptable.

We came down for the 2024 solar eclipse and had a wonderful experience camping here. Even though the eclipse was a bust due to weather, the kids all said they wouldn’t trade it for anything because the activities were just so much fun. They were well worth the added cost. We found the hosts to be warm and gracious and the animals were amazing! So many rescue animals, exotic birds, horses, chickens, and goats. The land was spacious enough that we felt nice and isolated, despite the crowd that came in for the eclipse. Victoria’s breakfast tacos were great, and Micky was charming and engaging with the kids during the activities. We will definitely visit again!

The Lonestar Cabin in the Woods

Amazing hosts in a very beautiful part of the country. Cabin was fully stocked, clean, and everything worked. It's a mid level kind of a place. What really makes this place shine are your hosts. Super friendly, honest, and accommodating. Los of animals and things to see on site.

Vicky and Mickey are amazing hosts! So kind and fun and accommodating - they’ve got a gorgeous piece of land and so many animals to visit. Huge field to camp out in, parking right close by, would be even more perfect staying when the bathrooms are available (was out of their control over eclipse season, and town is only ten minutes away). Would come back if I’m back in this part of texas! Breakfast was delicious and the horse ride was accessible and fun (and made the prospect of camping much more attractive to my girlfriend!)

The field was flat and scenic. The most disappointing aspect was that the camping area was close to the road you could hear the cars that passed. We arrived really late and couldn’t tell where to set up our campsite so we just chose an open space in the middle of the field. I would've chosen a spot farther back had I been able to see road in relationship to the field but that’s on me for getting there so late. It’s a country road so there wasn’t traffic per se but you could hear any car as it zoomed by and when I camp I like feel like I’m out in the middle of nowhere. I would return to the property but only to stay in a cabin or other accommodation unless there are other campsites away from the road. We were given a heads up about the bathroom not being available but only 3 days prior to traveling and had I known I wouldn’t have booked the site as I have a stomach condition that can require many bathroom trips. We were able to get a portable toilet in time from Amazon and I understand that things happen making toilets not available but again I wouldn’t have booked it had I known and with not knowing a week prior I couldn’t cancel the reservation because of the refund policy. The pricing wasn’t transparent. After booking I was told because of the eclipse I still owed a balance which I zelled but never got a receipt despite asking for it. We didn’t really go past the campsite area so I can’t comment on the rest of the property but it looked nice from what I could tell.

The cabin was beautiful and the host extremely accommodating. We were located right by the chicken coup, and being night people, the morning roosters were a bit of a challenge for us. So just know this cabin is by chickens. That did not stop us from having an amazing time. It exceeded our expectations.

Hill Country Camp & Horseback Ride

We loved camping on Victoria and Mickey's Ranch. They were responsive when needed and the directions were clear. We stayed for two nights and set up our camp site near the horses and donkeys overlooking a beautiful pasture. Mickey did an amazing job taking us for a relaxed horseback riding experience. We also loved seeing the baby goats, menagerie of birds, and Bubba the best pot bellied pig. They have a put a lot of love into this place, and we were so lucky to get to experience that. Thank you both!

What a lovely treat camping at Victoria’s farm! Everyone was kind and hospitable, and the land itself was quite beautiful. My dog and I especially enjoyed our evening stroll to see the horses and donkeys. Waking up to a herd of goats passing through camp was an extra treat. Definitely recommend if you’re looking to tent/car-camp or cabin-camp!

Butterflies Cabin @ HomeAway Ranch

This place is a hidden gem. It’s the second time we went and my kids already want to go back. Plenty to keep the kiddos interested, safely fenced, close to nature preserves and parks. There have been other kids there both times we went, so my kids had others to play with. Cabins are clean and well kept. Can’t say enough good things. We’ll be back.

I can't say enough great things about our trip. We drove up from San Antonio for a short break and my kids (6 and 7) had so much fun. Vicky and Micky were amazing hosts. They let us set up a tent outside the cabin (I knew my kids would not last the night in a tent). We also did 2 animal encounters (farm animals and birds). My 6 year old girls have high anxiety and don't like strangers but Micky was AMAZING with them. He didn't push, let them try new things at their own pace, and backed off if he thought something might be too much. My kids can't wait to go back.

Really great getaway with so much seclusion from the busy city life we came from. Our kids loved feeding the free roaming chickens and buddy love, their cute pot belly pig. You can walk around the grounds and enjoy the nature surrounding and walk down to see the horses and donkeys. We especially enjoyed the fire ring we had by the cabin and stayed up through the night sitting by the warm fire and chatting. They have a playground set and all the comforts you would need in a cabin. Cute, cozy place and wonderful attentive hosts. Highly recommend.

RV Horseback Camping In The Woods

This is a beautiful ranch with private gate and good site hookups. We had a few issues with communication upon arrival (getting the gate code), but afterwards had no issues. We never actually met the hosts, but some of the workers on site were very friendly and helpful. Nice little playground for the kids.

RV Horseback Camping In The Woods

Was a lovely spot for a couple nights. Would stay again in low season. Lots of animals to see and great for kids. We were the only RVs there. My only slight bit of feedback is that $25 to rent a fire pit is a bit excessive. Otherwise all good.

I can’t say enough about how much joy this place bought me. In the mornings I was able to wake up and feed the horses and donkeys (: I was a short drive to Fredericksburg and Boerne where I shopped till I dropped. The peacefulness this place brought makes me miss it already. We will be back again and again.
