Relax by the river, hidden amongst trees and fields, where sprawling space meets abundant outdoor adventure. Your riverside, self-serving, primitive stay will leave you feeling refreshed and closer to nature. The cool, shaded space snuggled between a stream and rushing river will be your own private retreat, along beautiful Henry Fork River. Seclusion awaits, minutes from historic downtown Morganton restaurants, shops, breweries and more, even nestled along a “winery trail”. If you’re looking to stay put – tubing, body boarding, fishing, paddling, and creative fun await you. Sip your percolated morning coffee by the rushing river, spend afternoons fishing, painting and skipping rocks, into an evening roaming the area and fireside cuddling. If you’re seeking to venture out, head minutes away to hike South Mountain State Park trails and waterfalls, stroll Morganton greenway trails, take the kids (or pets) to all-inclusive Catawba Meadows Park (great disc golfing), cruise the iconic Blue Ridge Parkway, explore the (literally!) cool Linville caverns, or splash around Lake James State Park beach area. The riverside area comfortably accommodates eight. Bring your family, friends, pets, and your sense of adventure!Primitive riverside campsite is a flat grassy space along 100' of the Henry Fork River - trout-stocked annually! Perfect for splashing and fishing. Guests will enjoy 1 acre to themselves, but please note there may be neighboring drivers occasionally passing through the dirt road. Campsite toilet available if need!

  • Review summary

    Generated from real Hipcamper reviews

This campsite offers a mixed experience for campers. While some visitors enjoyed the lovely river and found the hosts to be responsive and helpful, others were disappointed by the overgrown property and lack of advertised amenities like water access. The proximity to residential areas and a busy bridge detracts from the feeling of seclusion, and interactions with unfriendly neighbors added to the discomfort for some. The site has potential, but maintenance and accurate listing descriptions are needed for a better experience.

Camped in a 15 ft pop-up camper with kids, Oct 2026.

    It was okay

Unfortunately, this camping spot was a major disappointment. The property was so overgrown that we weren't even able to camp there. The listing advertised it as a "private retreat," but that was far from reality. The nearby bridge had cars constantly driving across it, which took away from any sense of privacy or peacefulness. Additionally, the listing stated that water was available from a spigot, but that wasn't the case. This was yet another example of the property not matching what was advertised. To make matters worse, the neighbors were extremely rude and made it very clear that campers were not welcome in the area. This made the experience even more uncomfortable and uninviting. Overall, the property has potential, but it needs serious maintenance, and the listing needs to accurately reflect the actual conditions and available amenities. Between the overgrown campsite, lack of advertised water access, constant traffic, and unwelcoming neighbors, this was nothing close to the peaceful, private camping experience we were promised. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this location in its current condition.

    Recommends

It was a great place to stay! There was an incredibly pretty river with lots of very small waterfalls. The land was nice and so were the neighbors. If seeing the stars is your priority, this would not be my top pick, but other than that it was fantastic!

Tent camped with friends, Jun 2026.

    It was okay

The site was easy to find, and the space along the river was really lovely. Sweet spot to get in the water and just be. It’s super sandy and fairly residential - so it doesn’t feel fully like “camping” - but that was expected as the description is accurate. There was some debris at the site: an old tire, some plastic trash we had to fish out of the fire pit, etc. For the price, it felt like it could have been “cleaner,” but overall it was a good size space for our large group of multi-setup campers (tent, car, etc.)
