We camped in the safari tent and had a cozy lovely time. Although it was in a loop with other campsites it felt plenty private, set back from the road and separated from the other sites by plenty of trees. Didn't end up trying the tub, but it looked nice. The wood stove kept us warm throughout the night, and the solar power bank and water pump were a nice touch.

I loved camping here . Love the amenities but I would have to say the roads and lighting here are a downside. The potholes are crazy and the "solar lights" are so dim it's so hard to see anything

Old Country

Arcadia Valley Outdoors was the best camping experience I’ve had! It was so easy to enter the campground and find our site, Old Country. Old Country was secluded from the other sites, which we LOVED! It was good to know we had neighbors nearby, but good we had our own space. Old Country was very clean and it was plenty of space for all our camping needs! It was so perfect :) We will be coming back!

Great for camping with groups!

Me and my girlfriends had an amazing trip at Arcadia Vally! We were worried about the campsites being too close but we were not interrupted by any of the other noise. To anyone staying, I highly recommend this campsite over the others in the area! Lots of room for a big tent and even trees very suitable for a hammock. One thing I would like to mention, the road is gravel on the way to the campsite. Be aware if your vehicle is not suitable on rougher terrain.

Very primitive, body of water is mud bottomed, Wood burning hot tub had a layer or people flakes on the top of it. 🤮. Seems like it rather unkept. E-bike on site don’t exist. Shame Booked two nites, Didn’t stay. Found better options with better amenities

This place couldn’t have been better for our small group of campers. Highly recommend, hot tub, sauna and bathrooms were all very nice comforts while “roughing it”. There was ample space between campsites to make the place feel private. Great hiking trails on property with a beautiful lake to watch the sunset. Thank you AVO for a great setting for a weekend away from the city.

Awesome spot! Well kept sites that are secluded from each other. So nice being able to get firewood on site all night. Only stayed 1 night but would’ve loved to try out the free kayaks. I’d recommend this place to family and friends for a great getaway!

We absolutely loved the canvas tent setup on the platform. The campsite was well thought out and we enjoyed the bed very much. I do wish the description was a little more thorough. We found a cot under the bed that my daughter could have slept on while we were packing up to leave, we couldn’t figure out how to operate the water heaters, and it would have helped a lot to have signage to the bathroom. We arrived after dark and unfortunately the solar panels did not catch enough light that day to power the lights. Recommend bringing lanterns and folding chairs for around the fire. Overall, the space felt very clean and the citronella candles on the porch were a nice touch. Also found some cool trails and even spotted a deer that didn’t seem bothered by us at all.

First Place

AVO was awesome. We stayed at the 1st Place campsite and loved the layout of area. The tent pad was fairly flat and located a nice distance from the fire pit. I also appreciated that the site had its own dedicated trail leading to the showers and restrooms. AVO offers free kayaks for use in the Shepherd Mountain reservoir, which are definitely worth a try. I didn't try the hot tub or sauna, but they looked like very neat amenities. We stayed during the off season, so there were very few fellow campers (none at all on Sunday night). Very nice. I only have mild criticisms. I recommend bringing your own fold-up grill plate. One was located at the campsite, but it was pretty rusty. Restrooms are pretty primitive but are kept relatively clean. However, the water for the sink ran empty and was never refilled. This may be maintained more consistently in the busy season though. In general, I would highly recommend this camp ground. I would love to stay here again.

Great location near Elephant Rocks and Pilot Knob Battle site/Fort Davidson. Firewood is available there for $5 a bundle (Honor System). Quiet, well kept, and they have free kayaks and paddles you can use on the lake adjacent to the campsites. Compost toilettes available. Great place to see some stars. 10/10 would recommend Terrarium and the campgrounds as a whole

We camped at Last Site on the Left and couldn’t be happier! Great site and felt very private. Peaceful and quiet and even had 3 deer run through our site in the morning. Will definitely be back!

Pro: Great spacing of smaller sites, peaceful area away from other sites!! Good size fire ring Bathrooms well thought out Places to park ok Paths to sites ok No poison ivy Brush at sites cleared Con: Road to get to sites REALLY bad. Huge ruts that scraped all vehicles on bottom and bad potholes. Trying to drive in the middle, the brush on the sides scratched cars. Had to pack out trash, no clear trash area No place to cook over fire, tiny house firepit next to large on, didn't seem safe to cook Large place to set things in picture leans so that plates an stoves fell off without rocks to hold. Overall; We would love to go back knowing now the cons to expect! Fixing the road should be a top priority. That's the only thing that would keep us from returning.

Birthday 🎂 Getaway

Wow! What a nice retreat. The sites are well maintained and everything has been thought out and put together for a peaceful getaway. The spa area was so very relaxing. We used the woodburning sauna and ice bath. Wonderful! The remote setting amongst the trees made the spa area a unique experience. So grateful for the composting toilets that were well spaced amongst the sites for easy use. Water was easy available. 10 mins away Elephant Rock and 20ish mins away from Johnson Shut ins. We will be back for another stay. Highly recommend.

Very private and quiet place. Cleverly designed. It looks like perhaps that they don’t get a lot of visitors as there is some overgrowth and needed maintenance however the sites were unique and private. The shower worked nicely ( warm water ) they are expanding a nice walking trail. This is a spot that if they keep working and get enough folks to say good things would be a hidden gem. I’d definitely go back

The site we had was spacious, however had no level place for our tent. We were camping tilted the whole time. The singular shower for the 10+ campsites was a bit concerning, especially since anyone could see you if you stepped forward to adjust the water pressure on the hose/shower head. Thankfully we were smart and draped our towels over the “doorway” to block vision. There were also holes in the walls so if anyone wanted to peek they could. Also, a ground hornets nest (big, mainly yellow, idk) was under the tree DIRECTLY behind the shower. Which is an easier fix but it looks very established and has been there a while. My biggest complaint, is the information and staff responses. There is no official address. Which I thought would be fine. It said it was on Shepherd mountain lake, so I was okay booking based on that and proximity to what we wanted to do nearby. But the instructions to get there were “go to the park and keep going past two gates.” I tried looking up the park, nope. I could only find the lake itself and not where the park was. I emailed asking for more instructions or guidance 36 hours before we arrived. NEVER got a response. Even though the app said they usually replied in 4 hours. I found the campsite by using satellite mode on my map and comparing the map of the campsite and what the road shape looked like and comparing it to a dirt road I found on the satellite image. That place could be so cool, JUST REPLY AND FIX/UPDATE YOUR AMENITIES

This was my sixth stay at AVO over the past two years (four personal bookings, two with a friend), and I’ve always cherished its unique campsites, wood-fired sauna, hot tub, and kayaking on Shepard Lake. The hosts’ hospitality and personal touch made every visit special. Sadly, AVO has been declining over the past 6-12 months. During my latest Thursday arrival, no one greeted me, and the sauna and hot tub were unclean and unprepared. Overgrown weeds along the roads and kayak trail deterred me from paddling, and scattered clutter throughout the property was jarring. The loss of AVO’s caring vibe left me disappointed, and I departed a day early.

Great communal shower/sauna/hot tub

This little gem is a shining bright if you know where to look. The wood fired sauna and hot tub are the absolute best end to a busy day at Johnson shut inns or elephant rock. The cold plunge was such a welcome relief after getting out of the amazing sauna. The woods surrounding them are beautiful and offer plenty of privacy. You can tell the folks here are trying hard to create an unforgettable experience a truly unique camping trip for the whole family. Our campsite was plenty large enough with a great walking trail leading to the sauna. We will definitely be back again soon.

Me the kiddos(2 girls 14&17) and the puppy loved our site! It was out of the way and pretty private. The restrooms were very clean. Shower down at the water/spa area was easy to operate and felt awesome! The fact that we could hop in some kayaks an go hit the lake was probably one of our favorite parts of the trip! Fishing is on point as well right at dusk off the dock! If youre looking for a quiet relaxed weekend this is the place to do it ! Also if you dont mind a 15-20 min drive johnson shut ins is down the road to go swimming and hiking trails.
