Welcome to the Double J! Of the 71 acres we own, about half is tillable and the other half is woods and pastures for our horses. Within that, there is a beautiful secluded 3-acre meadow nestled down along along a beautiful 1,200 foot stretch of the Zumbro River where we have 5 spacious tent/RV campsites. While the campsites are all adjacent to each other along the river, they are each very spacious (the smallest being 100' wide and 75' deep), with some mature trees scattered around. Each sites (except Site #1) is able to accommodate up to 8 people and more than one tent or RV. There is a small meadow above all the sites where campers can play catch or other games. We provide and maintain a centrally located outhouse and keep the entire area mowed throughout the year. All sites offer great shade trees (perfectly spaced for hanging up a hammock) and access to the river - great for those hot summer days! Water activities to be enjoyed include fishing, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding and tubing (equipment not included). Some campers will drop in upstream at the Covered Bridge Park and float down to their campsite. The Zumbro River, especially in the fishing hole, offers great fishing including Trout, Small-mouth, Red-horse, and an occasional Northern or Sauger. Campers are welcome to to meander out into our pastures to pet our two horses, Shiloh and Champ. Also, we are just over a mile from town where you can visit Covered Bridge Park which has a Frisbee golf course and a nice play area for younger kids. Reserving adjacent sites, or all of the sites, makes for the ideal setting for a large family or group camp-out. In order to prevent overcrowding, we do reserve the right to limit number of sites, or campers per site based on overall parties/campers in the camping area. We will notify you if there are any limits at the time of your booking. We enjoy being able to share our property with others, and it is our desire to promote a safe, peaceful, family-friendly environment, therefore, be sure to note, we do have a NO ALCOHOL policy. PLEASE NOTE: Be sure to read the "RV Details" on the site information page as the road to the camping area may limit the type or size of RV due to a couple dips, a sharper curve, and it's steeper slope. Also, keep in mind, we reserve the right to cancel any reservations due to heavy rains or floods that may require our sites some additional time to dry out sufficiently. Dry firewood can be purchased for $5.00/bundle. Tucked away from our main campground, the Private Peninsula is our most popular camping site—and for good reason. This secluded site offers easy river access, spectacular view, the peaceful sound of nearby rapids, a private porta-potty, and optional electricity. The site is located on a small peninsula nestled between the river and a small spring-fed stream, creating a beautiful and peaceful setting surrounded by water. The campsite has two levels, each offering its own unique advantages. The main lower level, located right along the river, provides easy access to the water and plenty of space to relax beside the river. It offers limited shade but puts you right at the water's edge. The upper level provides more shade and room to park a couple of vehicles. Both levels feature spectacular views and their own fire pit area, giving you plenty of options for relaxing, gathering, and enjoying the scenery. EASY RIVER ACCESS The river access in front of the Private Peninsula is gently sloped making easy accessibility for canoes, kayaks and tubes. Just a few yards downstream is our popular fishing and swimming hole, which is also accessible to other campers. The river in front of the site is typically 1–2 feet deep and transitions from a sandy bottom into rocky rapids downstream. PRIVATE PORTA-POTTY & ELECTRICITY OPTION The Private Peninsula has its own private porta-potty. It's an older unit, but it's kept clean and maintained for your convenience. Also, for an additional $5 per night (2-night minimum), electricity is available by running an extension cord down from our house to the site. The connection supports a maximum of 12-15 amps and is suitable for items such as CPAP machines, fans, air pumps, lights, and charging batteries. SECLUDED, BUT NOT COMPLETELY REMOTE The site is located approximately 200 feet below our house, but several trees separate the campsite from the house, providing a sense of privacy and making the house much less noticeable from the site. 4WD/AWD REQUIRED 4WD or AWD is required to drive down to the Private Peninsula. The access road is sloped and grassy, and two-wheel-drive vehicles may have difficulty navigating the drive, especially in wet conditions. If you have a 2WD vehicle, you can park near the entrance to the drive and walk down to the site. With its private setting, two distinct camping levels, spectacular river views, easy water access, and the relaxing sound of the rapids, the Private Peninsula offers a truly special camping experience for guests looking for a little more privacy and a lot more scenery. Being at the far end of of our campground and our largest overall site, Site #5 is the most private of our five sites making it a favorite among campers. This site sits on a bend in the river offering a great view of the river both up and downstream. While the front of the site is 100' wide, the back of the site along the river is 180' wide, and the site ranges from 75' deep to 180' deep in the back corner. There is also a larger patch of mature trees creating a little more of a privacy barrier between the adjacent site. Site #5 is our most flat site offering the ability to park a camper(s) or pitch a tent(s) almost anywhere. This site is perfect for larger campers and will also easily accommodate larger groups. The river is typically 1-3' deep in front of this site and has a sandy bottom but may be a little muddy along the edges. Access to the river from this site is quite steep, but navigable for the more adventurous. Campers can find easier access to the river from an empty site or off the walking trail along the swimming hole upstream from Site #1. TIP - Being we do not reimburse campers in the event of rain (unless campground is flooded or too muddy), we highly recommend campers take advantage of Hipcamp’s Weather Guarantee option when booking. Site #3 is a spacious campsites, offering good room for tents, RVs, and outdoor activities. Vehicles and smaller RVs can back up close to the river, while longer RVs may have limited access to the river’s edge due to a slight drop in the terrain that can affect clearance. This site receives more sunlight than most our other campsites, while still providing good shade when you want a break from the sun. There is 1-2 spots that one can hang a hammock to relax in. Like all of our sites, Site #3 is an excellent choice for campers looking to relax, unwind, and enjoy time along the water. EASY RIVER ACCESS The river directly in front of Site #3 is easily accessible and is typically 1–3 feet deep with a sandy bottom. Depending on water levels and recent weather, the edges of the river may be a little muddy at times. A couple sets of rapids and popular swimming and fishing hole are just a short distance upstream, giving you convenient access to some of the campground's favorite spots to swim, fish, explore, or simply sit back and enjoy the sound of rushing water. Overall, Site #3 is a great choice for campers looking for a spacious site with a balance of sun and shade, convenient vehicle access, and easy access to the river. Site #1 is one of our most picturesque and popular campsites, located just below a set of gentle rapids that provide a soothing, natural soundtrack throughout your stay. With approximately 100 feet of width and 75 feet of depth, the site offers plenty of privacy on one side and is surrounded by more trees than any of our other sites, providing welcome shade on hot summer days and also a couple good spots to hang a hammock and relax. The site is located just a few yards downstream from our swimming and fishing hole, making it easy to enjoy the water and explore the river. River access directly from the campsite is fairly steep but navigable for those looking for a little adventure. For easier access, there are better entry points several yards upstream, accessible from the walking trail just beyond the swimming hole. The river in front of the site is typically 1–3 feet deep and has a sandy/gravel bottom, making it a great spot to relax along the water. TWO-TIER CAMPSITE Site #1 features an upper and lower tier connected by a gentle, easily walkable slope. Campers can park and set up tents on the upper level, while the lower level features a picnic table and fire ring positioned right alongside the river. Because of the natural slope between the two tiers and the abundance of trees, Site #1 has somewhat less usable space than our other campsites. It is best suited for a couple of tents or a smaller RV/camper. OPTION FOR ELECTRIC For an additional $5/night ($10 minimum) we are able to run an extension cord to the site. Electicity is limited to 10-12 amps, sufficient to power CPAP, fans, air pumps, or charge batteries. A NOTE ABOUT PASSING TRAFFIC While you will never have neighboring campers immediately on one side of your site, the gravel campground road passes alongside the upper portion of Site #1. Our water spigot is also located a few yards uphill from the site. Therefore, you may have other campers driving or walking past, particularly on busy weekends. Site #4 is a large, flat, and spacious campsite measuring approximately 100' wide by 90' deep, making it an ideal choice for larger RVs or multiple tents. Vehicles and RVs can back up right next to the river, providing convenient access to the water and beautiful riverside surroundings. The path to the river is slightly steeper than some of our other sites but is still easy to navigate. The river in front of Site #4 is typically 1–3 feet deep with a sandy bottom. Depending on water levels and recent weather, the edges may be somewhat muddy. LIGHTED OCTAGON PERGOLA AND LIMITED ELECTRIC One of the highlights of Site #4 (added in September 2026) is its large octagon pergola, featuring string lights all the way around. The soft lighting creates a warm, relaxing atmosphere for evening campfires and gatherings. The lights are powered by a 12V battery with a DC-to-AC converter, which can also be used for charging phones, powering air pumps, or running other low-power devices. With the lighted pergola, Site #4 is perfect to book with Site 3 and/or 5 for larger groups to gather around a fire at! Jeff was so kind and the property very beautiful!! For slightly more solitude I would suggest site #5 or the upper peninsula, doesn’t change how serene it was camping right on the creek though. Campgrounds are well maintained and clean, stocked with wood nearby plus additional rounds made by Jeff to each campsite :) Porta potty was clean plus well lit at night! I taught myself to fly fish here, all chub but getting the technique down was so easy when camping right next to the creek. I’d certainly return when waters are a little higher and cooler, seemed low at the time.

Over the last 4 summers, we’ve camped here 11 times and have always had a wonderful experience! Jeff and Julie have a beautiful and well-maintained property that offers multiple sites with plenty of space for privacy and room for dogs, too. The grass is lush and is a perfect terrain for tent camping, and the trees offer great shade. It’s always been a peaceful retreat for us to spend time at and we enjoyed sharing it with multiple friend groups over the years. We are sad we’ll soon be living too far away for it to be our main spot. Highly recommend The Double J!

What a great place, right on the river and only about an hour from Minneapolis! It was very peaceful, larger sites, spotless, good shade even in the more open spots, and a very nice guy showed me around and helped me get some firewood. I am a birder, and heard so many birds! In the morning, I sat with my binoculars for a bit, just taking it all in. I appreciate the “no alcohol“ rule tremendously as well, because it means that groups who want to party will look elsewhere and that makes me feel much safer booking this stay as a solo traveler. I will definitely be back!

I absolutely loved staying here! The land is beautiful, the pictures don't do it justice. The river is accessible right off the campsite (it would be for all of the other sites at this location with just a short bit of walking). My girlfriend and I brought river tubes and were able to walk them right into the river and float for hours. It was super slow and shallow, making it the most peaceful experience. You can float about 45 minutes downriver right from this site, no shuttle, and then walk your tubes back gently through the river and do it again. I'd love to come back and do it again. Not really any trails in walking distance from here, but great for chilling at the campsite and enjoying the river.

This was a wonderful campsite! Our favorite part was the access to the river from our campsite! The river was absolutely lovey for paddle boarding and wading in, it’s typically about 3’ deep but there are some very shallow rapids with small rocks so I would recommend some type of water shoes. The campsite was beautifully kept and tidy in every aspect which includes the portable toilet. I cannot wait to come back here!

This summer I was blessed with a number of weekends to prioritize camping with my elder pup. I’ve never camped alone before this summer and this trip to Double J was my first time ever tent camping alone. Haven’t been tent camping since I was in grade school. Perfect site! Dang HOT weather but I was at site 3 with enough shade. Bought an old used tent on Marketplace and set it up by myself, I feel proud! I was excited to walk in the river: Baxter likes the shore better, so i was kind of bummed. I’d def be comfy bringing kids here. Perfect water level to really play but not dangerous. Site 3 has muddy river bottom, should wear water shoes. A little tough to get from the water to the site but do-able. It’s too bad the river probably would wash away any steps Jeff might build! I did try to walk my dog in the river past site one to find the swimming hole but he wasn’t having it. Sites 2&4 were occupied too but everyone was quiet and respectful. Site 3 is closest to the biffy. Just a short walk up a slope. So nice to have trash can available too. Everything was clean. Normal amt of bugs, no ticks, just use a lot of bug spray. Lots of birds, wow! Super quiet and peaceful. Left early because there’s extreme heat warning and as soon as the sun came up it got to be too much for my dog. Fire pit was great! Bring your own fire tools though. There’s no poker at the site. Good quality firewood. Really enjoyed seeing the stars and fireflies too! Hope to come back!

This place was so beautiful and peaceful. Waking up to the morning dew, birds singing and water flowing is the most relaxing. We saw an otter or beaver swimming in the river and it was the cute. And most of, NO MOSQUITO. We would love to go back with our family.

This is my 3rd or 4th stay and it was just as great as the others. The river was flowing something fierce and the kids spent two hours playing in the water. They didn’t want to get out! This is our go to spot on the 4th to get away from the fireworks. Just under an hour from the Twin Cities!

Our family of four loved camping on this property! It was the first time my two kids, aged five and three, had ever gone camping and we were worried about too much noise at a traditional campground, so we decided to stay here. This site was really quiet and private with no immediate neighbors, so it was perfect and relaxing. The views of the river were stunning and we had really easy access to get in the water. I recommend bringing tubes and paracord and lifejackets for younger kids because the river’s current can be a little fast. It was a really great experience overall and owner Jeff was very attentive to getting us firewood when needed. The site is spacious and shaded!

Site #1 was just as beautiful as the pictures show. Naps in our hammocks and falling asleep to the sound of the river was heavenly. The sites are super wide so other campers are not a bother. Having a clean porta-potty and access to fresh water was a huge bonus. This was our first Hipcamp experience and it will be hard to beat!
