Lax Lake Resort and Campground stands out as a charming, family-operated destination nestled in the serene Sawtooth Mountains of Lake County, Minnesota. Just a few miles off the bustling Highway 61 and near the majestic shores of Lake Superior, this vintage resort offers a unique blend of history and natural beauty, making it a perfect getaway for those seeking tranquility away from the crowds. The roots of Lax Lake trace back to 1894 when the Johannes Waxlax family settled in the area. By 1907, the community flourished with the logging industry and the establishment of the Duluth and Northern Railroad. Although the town faded after the logging era, the spirit of community remained. In 1928, John Waxlax opened Lax Lake Resort, envisioning a place for both camping and lodging. Over the years, the resort has evolved, with the Rudloff family taking over in 1973 and continuing the legacy of hospitality. Today, Lax Lake Resort features four original cabins from the 1930s, with two currently available for rent. The resort has modern amenities, including a lodge building with updated bathrooms, showers, and laundry facilities.
