Mountain Bird Alpine Desert

The campsite was perfect for our one night stay near Crestone. Our host was super easy to communicate with and even made some really helpful local suggestions in the area to visit. I would definitely recommend booking here. I look forward to another trip in the spring.

Great host, made everything easily available. Anything you needed Paul was there for you. Site 4 was great and easy to get to. Only like 50 minutes from the Dunes. Will be coming back!

Karma camper site

Starry night and mountain sunrise!

Paul and Robin are excellent hosts! You can tell they have a real passion for the region and for helping others explore it. The remote land provided beautiful sunset, stars, sunrise and wildlife viewing. All amenities (restroom, firewood, sites) are all just as listed. Highly recommend!

We love coming and hanging out here! It’s so peaceful and non pretentious. This was our second visit and it is the place to go to clear your head and just be. And Paul is super cool.

Loved camping on Paul’s land! Wide, spacious, private and super quiet. We had booked it hoping to see the Milky Way in the night sky and it did not disappoint! Paul also gave us great suggestions about what to do around the area like visiting the sand dunes recreation pool that we would have no idea about without him. His wife Robin is also a sweetheart and runs a craft business and sold my girlfriend this adorable little journal book that she’s going to use to write about our travels in. Will definitely be staying with Paul and Robin again!

Paul is an amazing host! We traveled from Wisconsin for our first trip out to Colorado and he gave us lots of good information and tips for our time out west. Beautiful views of the mountains surrounding the site in the valley. Fully-functioning shower and bathroom were great. and we did find some Palisade peaches on our way out, which were awesome! Would 100% stay again.

Sunset's Colorado adventure camper

Awesome spot to set up camp! Paul and his wife are super friendly and accommodating. The site has a toilet and shower that are very clean and great to have after a night of camping. The sky is super clear and the stargazing is amazing! Highly recommend!

Camping at Mountain Alpine Desert was a dream! The scenery was beautiful, you have plenty of space to yourself (we chose site 4), the amenities were great and Paul and his wife were so kind. If we’re ever back in the area I will only every stay at Paul’s!! Also an honorary mention to the night sky, it’s actually insane!

This camping experience was truly unlike any other. The views are absolutely incredible and the night sky is breathtaking! Paul is so welcoming and friendly and made sure we had everything we needed in addition to recommending things to do in the area and where to see local wildlife! He met us at the gate and took us on a tour around the space, which feels very secure! The bathroom/shower setup is adorable and I felt spoiled having it right next to our site! There are hammocks that you can relax in and look at the view as well! Everything about this stay was incredible, it was just cold as Paul had warned us it would be! We would for sure come back again :)

Staying on Paul's property was great. The scenery was great and the stars are bright. The campgrounds were really well spaced and the amenities made the stay convenient. The thing that stood out most though was Paul's wealth of knowledge. We were winging it through Colorado and Paul gave us some great advice as far as where to visit, where to fish, what we should skip seeing for something else, and so on. I don't know where we would've ended up had we not talked to him. Anyways, I'd totally recommend.

What an awesome setup they have here! Awesome views, peaceful and quiet, great star gazing! I rented one of their campers already setup for my dog and I and it was a great experience. Talked to Paul a few times and he was great with recommendations of what to do while in the area and also making sure you have everything you need for an enjoyable weekend. I definitely recommend this spot, I’m sure I’ll be back again!

Paul was amazing - he is a wonderful host! We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend his place! Stargazing is great and he gave us lots of recommendations for things to do. Bathroom was very clean and nicely made. Would definitely stay there again!

Paul’s place is beautiful and Paul is a thoughtful and friendly host. He has added so many charming touches to his place - hammocks, fire pits and even a Dutch door on the bathroom. He was very accommodating after our arrival time was delayed. He shared lots of great tips and ideas for our trip. I highly recommend a visit. I wish ours had been longer.

Amazing stay! Paul stayed up late to greet us and show us our way to our campsite accompanied with a tour of everything . Had extra hammocks set up for us and allowed us to use extra wood if we wanted. The dark skies here are amazing and the spot is a gem and unlike anything like it in the area. Thank you Paul!

A beautiful place to stay in the San Luis Valley! The views of the mountains, sunsets, and stars were gorgeous. We appreciated the seclusion as well as the clean and nice shower and bathroom. The site is about an hour to Great Sand Dunes and makes a great base camp for exploring the area. Just a tip to be prepared for seasonal windy/dusty weather during the day.
