Arrived to a locked gate, no host and no firewood, despite a listing that indicated it was provided (now updated to say it is not), and only one jug of water for everyone to share. One fire ring available and it was already taken when we arrived around 4pm. Campers at the site near us were dumping fuel on their fire for massive flames that did not feel safe given the dry conditions. When I raised issues the absentee host claimed it was a mistake the site was not yet closed for winter but as I write this review it is still available for instant book...
There are several good options for camping near Flagstaff/Grand Canyon. This is not one of them.

Overall a very nice property, there were a few different options of places to camp and resources were provided (firewood, water, etc). However, make sure you use Google maps and not Apple maps as we spent over two hours trying to find the property and the location Apple maps brought us to was four miles away.

Beautiful property, many camping spots on site with good amount of space for peace and quiet. Just close enough and just far away enough from Flagstaff to fully enjoy the outdoors then drive into town for the day. The barn area where we camped was so pleasant and very clean, you could tell it was a cared for space. Also, the hosts were very kind and accommodating at providing a site that was a great spot for us. We really appreciated our stay and would definitely return for another camping trip!

We really enjoyed camping in the Ponderosas! The property was very conveniently located. The host is great in the communication department, they were out of town the weekend we camped but were messaging back and forth as needed. The only thing worth mentioning is the TRAINS... If you're a sensitive sleeper, bring earplugs, because those trains are relentless, all night... and the sound really travels out there!

This site was great! We got there late, so we didn't see the road to the left that Shawn recommended. Instead, we stayed next to the barn and it was very peaceful and didn't see anyone else until our final morning. The gate is a little heavy, but I was finally able to slide it open. Would definitely stay here again!

This was a beautiful campsite in a great location. Shawn was easy to get a hold of, and super helpful and responsive to all my questions. The site itself was quiet and secluded and really pretty. I highly recommend it.

We decided to go camping and decided on half rack ranch, and it was absolutely lovely. Walking around, you could find small wonderful surprises. From the tire swing to the tree house. It was our first time camping, and Shawn really helped us out. Whether it was help on how to get there, or information on the grand canyon and when the sun would rise there (5:17)The scenery and the night sky are just beautiful sights. It is a place I would definitely go back to and would recommend to anyone

Our campsite at Half Rack Ranch was really great. On the property of Shawn and mark we had about 14 acres at our disposal. WE camped down near the tree house at the SE corner of their property. Like much of this area near Flagstaff, it was surrounded by Ponderosa Pines. Its at about 7000 feet of elevation. WE were a little restless at night because of it but didn't notice during the day. We live at about 1953 ft. At the campsite I was able to comfortably pull a R-Pod 18' trailer camper into a nice spot. The camp hosts provided a porto potty at the site. It was far enough away and wasn't an issue. It was super clean with no smell. We were also able to fill our water tank in the camper at the site thanks to our hosts. We wanted to be camped at a somewhat remote area so we did not hook up (electric). I know Shawn offers it but not sure exactly where. Beautiful scenic area all around. Loved seeing all the deer. Nearby we hiked Kendrick Mountain. There's lots of hiking possibilities all around. You're about 20 to 30 min. from Flagstaff. We also biked all around on the nearby County roads, and fire road (107). Highly recommend this camp. the hosts were super friendly and knowledgable. Great communication. We'll be back in the fall!~

Really pleasant stay. Quiet, remote (stargazing!) yet easy to find, and close to Flagstaff. Highly recommend. Would definitely stay here again.

Site is great in the middle of a forest but the ranch is all fenced and there is a little gate also. It was a nice place in the forest and not too far from the highway incase you want to go and buy something for the camping.

Peaceful property with a kind flexible host! Right outside of flagstaff with a easy trip to Sedona too. There are multiple places to set up camp. Highly recommend this spot if your traveling northern Arizona!

Cute and cozy spot in a convenient location! Minutes to Flag and close to the Grand Canyon. We were able to catch a glimpse of the Milky Way and if you walk along the Gov’t Prairie Road you have a nice view of the San Francisco Peaks. Having a bathroom and water provided was an extra perk. Great location to camp and I would definitely stay here again!

My friends and I stayed at this site for 5 days and couldn’t have had a better experience! A few days before our trip, we found out it was supposed to rain and snow. After a quick phone call with Shawn (who is a literal angel), she offered for us to stay in their trailer. This was a life-saver as it was snowing and raining heavily when we got there and basically the whole week.
The site was beautiful and clean and such a wonderful experience! It is right up against the national forest, which was great to explore.
Definitely recommend staying here and cannot wait to come back when it’s a little warmer.

Beautiful open space to come back to and unwind after a day of adventuring at the Grand Canyon. The porta-potty was spotless. The metal rim around the fire pits were such a treat, keeping smoke out of your eyes.

This location is amazing. This was our first time doing a non corporate rv park and we were using a tent. Shawn was great by haveing the sight prepared and secluded. We we're also close enough to a bigger town but plenty far were we could enjoy the silence and the stars. I loved this location and would most definitely go back. I would recommend checking out the nearby town of Willam.

What a beautiful location with such amazing hosts. I would recommend using google maps and NOT Waze app to get there. We got lost...twice. Once we made it though we were very pleased, especially with the very clean porta potty they have available for campers. My daughter was tickled by the decorations. One mom a tween and a teen and I slept feeling safe. Over all, loved it.

We ended up here on a whim after striking out with multiple campgrounds in Sedona. The road to the property was paved up to a certain point and then it was a fair bit of dirt/gravel road, but it was quite passible in our sedan even though it was wet and muddy. Shawn gave us good instructions by phone when we arrived and was very welcoming. The land was gorgeous and we can imagine camping here in warmer weather would be even better. All in all, it was a great experience, especially for booking last minute. We even took the hour drive in the morning to the Grand Canyon, which we hadn't planned on, but it was too close to pass up.

Booking was easy and the host was extremely helpful and responsive. The site was everything I expected and more. Shawn (the host) is building a cute little cabin on the property and the grounds set up for a real camping experience with all the amenities.
There were plenty of sticks for my lab to play with and our little space was just like home.

Shawn's ranch is absolutely beautiful. We were up there for Labor Day weekend and were completely alone. It was peaceful, quiet, well-kept, and a real treat to get to enjoy his property. I sincerely cannot wait to go back!

We had an amazing weekend camping at Halfrack Ranch. We will definitely be recommending this site to many of our family and friends. The location is incredibly convenient, within 20 minutes of both Flagstaff and Williams. Weather here in the summer is more than perfect. It’s really nice being in a secure environment in the pines away from the more populated open camping areas.

We went camping with our tents at Half Rack Ranch on our way to New Mexico from the Bay Area, California, and back (two nights total), at the beginning of August. Both nights were excellent experiences. The camp site itself was clean, spacious, with gorgeous views and all-around peaceful, as well as easy to find! My Verizon iPhone had two bars of clear reception at all times, so it was easy to contact Shawn to let her know we had arrived. She's very quickly responsive, kind, and helpful! Her husband was there the first night and extremely gracious and helpful. The first night there it rained somewhat because of lightning storms we saw earlier in the day in Arizona, but it was not a major downpour or anything unmanageable that night, and apparently not that common. Our last night there, we did some seriously awesome star gazing, as the night sky there is the clearest I've ever seen! Also, going for dinner in nearby Flagstaff or Williams is a must. Toilet amenities were easily accessible and clean. We will definitely be back! Thank you again for your incredible hospitality!

Shawn was a great host and was quick to contact when I needed help getting in.
The property is fantastic. It backs up to the National Forest so you’re in a secluded spot but you still have access to basic amendities. There’s plenty of space for multiple campers and even more space for exploring. Great spot for Grand Canyon hikers looking for an inexpensive alternative to lodging. Everyone should check out the treehouse. Cheers!

This site was really nice. It was tucked into a little nook in the Coconino National Forest not too far from 1-40, but definitely far enough that the site was peaceful and private. Unfortunately when downloading the directions directly from the Hipcamp website they took us to the wrong location, so we had an unexpected adventure exploring some extra forest service and fire roads. I mentioned this to Shawn though and he said we would look into it, so hopefully it won't be a problem in the future. If you're at all worried though, just type in the address directly to google maps and it will navigate you there perfectly! Other than that the site was peaceful and secluded, with ample space for tents or campers. Shawn had a 5 gallon jug of water for us to use, as well as a nice shady picnic table by the barn. Exploring around the property and the surrounding area of Coconino National Forest made for a very enjoyable morning! All in all, we had a great time camping in this wonderfully unique area of Arizona. We hope to be back soon!
