Loved this secluded canyon! Met Andrew by the highway, which was already way out there, then followed him on his quad in my 21' class-B van for 3 or 4 miles to campsite #2. Dislodged my low hanging generator on the rough road, but I knew it was a risk. Well worth it. This property had absolutely no noise or light pollution. It was an old mining town with several old mines still open to explore. I had an unforgettable few days secluded on this property. Zero cellular coverage with Verizon and Wi-Fi wasn't on while I was there. I thoroughly enjoyed my unplugged time. I will definitely be returning.

Absolutely awesome camp site, between how secluded the spots were, the mines and waterfalls, and hospitality of Andy and Chad it was a 100/10 by far the best camping spot I’ve been to in az.

Creekside camping, nothing better!

We loved the area and the campsite! Falling asleep to the sound of the creek next to us and waking up to the sun rising over the mountains made us wish we had booked a longer trip. Peaceful, private, and stunning. We came in after dark and Andrew met us at the gate, showed us to the site, and was available for anything we needed. 10/10 no notes. Will book again.

We absolutely loved our stay here! We were looking for somewhere beautiful and private to celebrate our anniversary and this exceeded our expectations. The tour at the start was so informative and we were able to find and explore all the places Andrew talked about. We spent quite a bit of time in Victory mine, found the underground waterfall, and hiked back to the swimming hole. He described the swimming hole as 'fairytale', and it truly was. We camped on the most beautiful site with amazing views of the canyon and towering bluffs. It was full moon and the site of that moon rising over the bluffs was breathtaking. This is truly one of the most beautiful, untouched places we have ever been and we hope to be back again someday.

Peace and Tranquility

This was a last-minute booking, and we’re so glad we chose Andrew’s place. He is a fantastic host who takes great pride in his land, his guests, and the history of what was once a thriving old mining town. Chrysotile is a stunning area with rich history, and our experience exceeded all expectations. We stayed at Site #1, which felt perfectly secluded for us. During our stay, we encountered an incredible variety of wildlife, including birds, deer, a skunk, and even a golden eagle. A highlight of the trip was a tour of one of the mines led by Chad, Andrew's caretaker—it was truly special. Our campsite was next to a running creek, where we spent most of our time relaxing, and we ended our days by driving to a plateau to witness breathtaking sunsets. Unfortunately, we didn’t make it to any of the waterfalls on the property, but there’s always next time. Andrew is putting so much effort into maintaining and sharing the beauty of this special place, and it shows. Just remember to pack light and take responsibility for packing out your waste to help preserve the canyon. If you’re looking for peace, solitude, and the chance to disconnect from the hustle and bustle, this is the perfect spot. Huge thanks to Andrew and Chad for being such wonderful hosts!

Ash Creek Canyon is a true hidden gem! As you dive into the rugged terrain of the canyon, a whole other world opens up. You can enjoy the tranquility of your own campsite or explore the old mine town that is spread out through the canyon. A big shout-out goes to Chad. He’s such a genuine and thoughtful guy, who took us on a little tour, while explaining the history of the different buildings and showing us the true beauty of the canyon. We’ll definitely be back!

Everything was amazing!!! Andrew was friendly and very helpful. There’s a lot of history in the camp spot. With a few mines to explore. Would definitely recommend for an adventure. If going make sure to have a truck or high rise vehicle. You are driving down into a cannon. Lots of rocks.

The site itself was spacious, private, and tucked right into the beauty of the canyon. Waking up surrounded by towering cliffs and the sounds of nature was truly magical. But what really set this experience apart was the hidden history woven into the land. From old mines and hand-dug caves to swimming holes and trails, every corner holds a story—and Andrew, our host, brought it all to life! He was absolutely fantastic. His tour of the property wasn’t just informative—it was adventurous and fun, even for our big family of 7. The kids were in awe the entire time, and so were we. We climbed, hiked, swam, and explored for hours. It was the kind of trip where memories are made and retold for years. 💯 Highly recommend Ash Creek Canyon to anyone looking for a mix of camping, history, and wild fun. There's something here for everyone—and yes, we’re already planning our next visit!

This is a great place off the grid to camp. The stars and moon are so bright at night. Ample room to set up camp with no neighbors (literally). Bring everything you need and stop in Globe before you head to camp for last min things. Highly recommend 4 wheel drive or high profile cars and go slow. The roads are rough indeed.

Beautiful Canyon Camping

This Hipcamp site was amazing with a small running creek! The site is pretty remote with a 3 mile, steep dirt road. I was able to make it in my 20ft camper van but I wish I had 4x4 for the trip. The camp host was amazing and helped me down the road and gave me firewood too. My pups loved being off leash and we loved being visited by a random cow.

Absolutely a wonderful experience camping here. The host was gracious and the tour of the property along with his vast knowledge of the history of the mining operations was beyond reproach. There are multiple camp sites that have been cleared and offer a lot of space to set up several tents and campers. There are also several cabins that are being renovated that will be offered for those who need the modern amenities. Abundant wildlife, fresh water streams and trails leading to the Tonto National Forest. A definite must for those wishing to get away from the daily monotony of the city. The night sky is absolutely amazing!

Ash Creek Canyon was everything we needed and more. The campsite was secluded and quiet. The bubbling of the creek at night was beautiful, and the water was low. I can only imagine how nice it will be after the rains. We didn't meet Andrew the elder, but the younger was knowledgeable and helpful, as was Ryan an employee we accidentally disturbed with questions. We had several furry visitors, our favorite was 2104 a gentle bull that gazed near the site while we were there. Tips: The roads are largely ungraded, so you definitely need 4 wheel drive. I would not recommend a low car. We were in an SUV and had no problems. You will drive on a one lane road with a cliff to one side. Even if you're nervous, it is worth it at the end. Visit the town. It is interesting and I hope to go back once more is restored. The hike to the swimming hole isn't bad, but it is worth it. Ask Andrew where the moonshine is! I didn't and I regret it!

A lot of beauty to see and explore

This camping trip was much more than I expected. I had never heard of this old mining town and beautiful Ash Creek Canyon, couldn’t find much information online. GPS took us right to the City, Upon arrival Andy greeted us and showed us to our campsite, then told us some history of the area and the places that must be seen. I will definitely be back because 3 days was not enough to see everything. When you go, plan to rent a side by side from them, if available, because there is over 600 acres to explore. Plenty of old mountain roads and mine entrances to see. Even.a few old buildings left from the Mining town days are there to see. A lot of active wild life to see, swimming holes to discover. Way too much to list here. If you love camping and exploring, do not miss this place. Campsites are large and leveled, with big fire pits. Plenty of room for multiple tents or RVs.

Secluded Sanctuary - Just Perfect

First: we have experienced no finer host than Andrew and his assistant Chad. Both are well at tuned to offering assistance or information when requested yet not once were they hovering. Second: and this is just our experience on one given weekend in May 2025. No question that the boys have put a lot of work into getting the road better than the original built over 100 years ago. You can see their work everywhere. And you can see the heavy duty equipment they’ve used as well. But it still is a bumpy road with some rocks you would not want to scrape the bottom of your vehicle. We did it in 2wd coming in, which is downhill predominantly and a bit of 4wd our way out as it lightly rained and we did not want to slip going uphill in our heavy sprinter van. I would gladly defer to Andrew‘s opinion as to what he has seen come in and out of that road of late. Next: if you like Arizona’s western history, this is quite a unique place because it’s been on private property for so long. The buildings are open to explore. Near the camp sites the relics to be spotted everywhere. Add an extra day if this your thing. Amazing how people lived just 100 years in our past. Camping spots: 2 thumbs up. Big spots that could easily host 3+ vehicles. We loved being right by the creek around the mature trees and massive boulders. Our two bird dogs romped and raced about the creek for hours with no ticks. Good trees for shade and hammocks. Bring some leveling blocks. Thx Andrew & Chad

Ash Creek was beautiful! Had a great night stay, spot #4. Creek wasn’t running and didn’t get a chance to hike down to the swimming holes, but the area was well maintained and had some tree coverage until the sun set behind the cliff to cast shade. Thank you Andrew and Chad!

Beautiful wide location along the creek. Great place to take a family. If you have little dogs, be aware there are Hawks.. They were eyeing my little pups.. just keep an eye out. It was a little rough driving into the location, but if you have an all wheel drive, you should be good. Chad, was the host on the land and he was pretty pleasant. We did a little hiking along the creek looking for the waterfall in the picture.. Unfortunately no waterfall to be found. We couldn't hike to far with our little pups.. It was soooo peaceful and quiet. My husband and I are looking to come back soon!

Like your own private Grand Canyon!

My daughters and I camped at Ash Creek Canyon in our camper van. The spot was truly beautiful: a canyon with high walls and gorgeous rock formations, a cool creek with swimming holes and waterfalls, quiet and private camping spots, and many acres of places to hike, climb, and explore. We had an amazing swimming hole to ourselves and spent the afternoon swimming, climbing among the waterfalls, and sunning on the rocks. We made a fire at night and loved the complete darkness, quiet, and solitude.
