18+ Artists&#x27; Nature Retreat

This was the perfect getaway! I felt like I was in my own little slice of wilderness with an impeccably peaceful quiet, and a vastly dark sky with sooo many stars. The compost toilet feels like a thrown while watching the sunrise. The neighboring homestead was awesome as well. I had a chance to tour the grounds with the owner which was so informative and cool, and gather some water to bring back to camp. It was such a necessary break of getting back to basics, and I’ll definitely be back in the future. Thank you for letting me and my pups enjoy the homestead!

Great tent site. Secluded and zero traffic. Full view of the night sky - truly incredible. No animals approached my tent - to my knowledge. Richard was generous with his time and showing me his creations.

I would live here tbh

I past through one night in a road cross-country roadtrip, and this little cabin was a great choice. Beautiful surroundings, a comfortable cabin, helpful host, and it's far enough off the main road that you hear no road noise - just the sounds of nature.

A Peaceful Retreat

I had a great experience! The micro tiny home was so cozy. The outdoor kitchen and bamboo ramada added lots of extra hang-out space. Richard gave me a tour of the property and there are so many interesting things going on there! He is a wonderful host that is doing wonderful things to connect with the earth.

The trip to the campsite was a beautiful drive down a rocky road. The views from the campsite were gorgeous day and night. Due to the little light pollution, the starts were stellar. The host was super kind and accommodating to our travel/camping plans. *road was definitely rocky but manageable with a awd or 4wd vehicle*

Great scenic view

interesting, unique place with a special atmosphere. If you like nature, art, and thinking differently, it's definitely worth trying. My favorite was the scenic-toilet :). The instructions were understandable, we found the campsite easily.

Great communication! He gave us lots of good recommendations for local hikes and things to do. The space was very clean and quiet! Beautiful views and a nice warm shower. The bathroom was clean also with great views:) we would recommend and we would book again when in the area!

The best view from any toilet ever!

Lovely and interesting spot to pitch a tent under dark skies. We enjoyed our stay here in late December 2024. Hot showers, good campsites, fire pits, and great views (especially from the composting toilet). Easy access to local sites (Bisbee, Tombstone) and hikes. Richard is welcoming, and gives excellent directions (follow the pictures, not Google Maps). His place/organization (Terraform Together) is doing great work promoting sustainable building, and your can see it first-hand. I recommend staying here, and would return!

This place is just what I was looking for but didn't even know it. Great off the grid camping experience - a real bed, warm shower, friendly host, and a nice spot to relax and prepare meals. I also enjoyed learning about the ongoing projects and plans. This won't be everyone's cup of tea - it is a camping experience but a damn interesting one if you come with an open mind. I plan on returning 👍👍👍

Desert utopia in the making.

Richard has such an incredible property and is such a wonderful person. We thoroughly relished our time at his place. We loved seeing what he is creating out in the desert. He’s so passionate about turning his land into an environmental center where visitors can see the possibilities for a more appropriate future in practice. Richard is so sweet and intelligent, we loved getting to know him, and seeing what he had in mind for the future of his land. Keep in mind, it is very primitive out there, but he has all the necessities set up and provides a camping experience unlike any other. A highlight of our recent road trip!

I truck camped on this property the day before a class on homesteading. What a fascinating destination. Though it was hot, I was able to find shade and thoroughly enjoyed speaking with Richard. This site easily accommodated my voluminous girth with ease and aplomb. Fabulous views to be had from the plumbing facilities...be sure to bring binoculars! Thanks Richard!

Last night in the AZ wilderness

Beautiful quiet spot, great long distance views. Short trip to Tombstone or Bisbee. Comfortable bed. Responsive friendly hosts. There are other larger lodging options on the same property. Directions are clear but I’m not sure I’d want to drive in in the dark the first time. But it’s fine after you’ve been there.

Thea and Richard were very welcoming and the rustic camping spot was just what I was hoping for. Lovely trails to walk and I fell asleep in the hammock. Very quiet and peaceful place for those who enjoy solitude and appreciate simplicity.

This was not the experience we were expecting. We were unhappy with the experience to the point where we ended up leaving about an hour after we got there. The site is definitely not accessible for a standard car and should only be accessed by a higher vehicle. The first mile of the dirt road was fine, but there were a lot of very large rocks that constantly hit the undercarriage of my car. Although the listing states that there is a composting toilet available, there was no mention that it was a few hundred yards away from the site and was completely open air. In the pictures, it looked like it was much closer to the site. We also didn’t realize that the bed was lofted and one member of our group was unable to get on it. We were really disappointed and will not be coming back.

I have enjoyed so much my time on Richard’s property… it is quiet, beautiful, and amazing all the buildings and projects he has been working on on the property over the years. If you are into natural building techniques, living off grid, being resourceful, finding and using free/cheap materials to build and create, then you will find plenty of that here. Richard is also very welcoming, easy to get along with, chill, and happy to share with you what he’s done and what he’s learned in his endeavor of creating a home out in the desert. I highly recommend!

Richard's property was amazing and the directions to get onto the property were super clear and easy to follow. It rained the first night but when the rain cleared you could see for miles and beautiful vallys and hills. He is a great host and his dogs are super sweet and friendly. Usually when i go to places like this even if it days there is power i still bring my 2 big portable batteries. Because it can be super limited power wise. I was pleasantly supprised and didnt need them. There was plenty of power to plug in the phone and cooler in thr tiny house as well as keep the lights on to play cards at night. The tent sites were good size and level. The tinny house was super cute and comfortable. The outdoor kitchen was good size with lots of space to make food. Composting toilet: this is really the only thing that i think could a little tlc. Yes its a compost toilet no big deal we have one where i live. But i think it would be a little better if it was more inclosed from the elements. It did have a partial roof that just covers the toilet area but with the rain and wind it didnt matter anyway. Plus before it rained the wind made it difficult to out sawdust in after using the toilet. The wind would catch it and send it back iut in a small saw dust tornado lol. Kind of part of being out in the middle of no where. But with that slight annoyance i would do it againnin a heart beat!!

The land is gorgeous and peaceful and the site has everything you need. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. Richard is a very welcoming, kind, and knowledgeable person with a wonderful way of life. I would absolutely recommend booking a stay here!
