The best camping near Manitou Islands Provincial Park guide

Overview

About

Embark on a journey to Manitou Islands Provincial Park, where the untamed beauty of Lake Nipissing's four islands awaits. With no campgrounds to speak of, the park offers a pure, day-use escape into nature. Here, visitors can indulge in swimming, boating, and nature viewing. The islands are a haven for birdwatchers, with over 50 species of breeding birds, including Great Blue Heron colonies and osprey nesting sites.

When to go

The best time to visit Manitou Islands Provincial Park is during the warmer months when the park's unique ecology truly comes to life. However, visitors should be mindful of the poison ivy prevalent in vegetated areas. Winter visits offer a stark, frozen beauty, but accessibility may be limited due to weather conditions.

Know before you go

  • Be aware that the park is a day-use only area with no overnight camping facilities.
  • Prepare for your visit by checking for any park advisories or restrictions in advance.
  • Remember to respect the wildlife, especially during bird nesting seasons.
  • Visitors should be cautious of poison ivy, which is common throughout the park.
  • While exploring, ensure you have adequate supplies, as there are no stores or services on the islands.
