The best camping near Spiritwood Lake guide

Overview

About

Jamestown is a lovely spot in North Dakota, and there’s an even lovelier lake to be found about 15 miles northeast of the town. This place almost feels hidden, but there’s no shortage of amenities or activities. Nature-loving folks flock here for the awesome fishing (particularly smallmouth bass, walleye, and pike), and other water-related fun, including a swimming beach. For those nights when you aren’t feeling cooking another meal by the campfire, the nearby Spiritwood Resort serves up delicious food, with picture-perfect views of the lake. You can even head over to Sandy Beach, for some excellent (and free) camping, with a side of sand.

When to go

The ideal time to visit Spiritwood Lake is during the warm summer months, from June to August, when the weather is perfect for water activities and hiking. Conversely, winters can be harsh, with the lake often freezing over, making it less suitable for visits. Plan your trip accordingly to make the most of the lake's offerings.

Know before you go

  • Check weather conditions before your visit to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
  • Be mindful of local wildlife and maintain a respectful distance.
  • Remember to pack out all your trash to keep the park clean.
  • Accessibility may vary across different areas of the park, so plan your activities based on the available facilities.
  • While there are no campgrounds at Spiritwood Lake, explore nearby camping options for an overnight stay.
