Waterside camping near Thermopolis

There’s only one place to soak in the world’s biggest mineral hot springs: Thermopolis, Wyoming. Whether you’re heading to Yellowstone National Park or staying for a few days, there’s plenty to do. Raft the Bighorn River, camp in canyons, or meet the state bison herd. Bring your tent or trailer—you’ll find several RV parks and campgrounds near town. These campsites sit close to Hot Springs State Park, where you can use the free bath house. In the park, use the boat ramp, dine on picnic tables, and explore the hiking trails. The nearest year-round public camping is at Boysen State Park, about 17 miles south. Many campgrounds offer RV sites, tent camping, and cabin rentals on the Boysen Reservoir. The swim beach and playgrounds are popular with families. Nearby, you can fish or drive through the breathtaking Wind River Canyon. While you’re camping in Thermopolis, check out the local history. Examine ancient art at Legend Rock Petroglyph Site. At the Wyoming Dinosaur Center, see local fossils or join a dig. Most sites are open year round—be sure to dress warmly in the winter.
