Camping at Possum Holler Camp will provide you the perfect blend of solitude and recreation access. You will truly be in the heart of the New River National Park, yet still feel secluded in the beautiful woods without neighbors. You will have private access to beautiful and idyllic Mill Creek, which has many beautiful emerald pools and is even seasonally stocked with rainbow trout! Within a mile you can access the New River Gorge Bridge and the Canyon Rim Visitor Center, and you are equally close to the park's world class climbing, rafting, hiking, ziplining, and mountain biking at the New River Gorge National Park and surrounding areas. Your group will have the entire camp to yourselves, so there's no need to worry about noisy neighbors.
Our driveway has recently been revamped to include more flat parking and a less steep access route! While these improvements are great, we still caution our guests to avoid bringing large trailers and to use 4WD if available in an attempt to minimize rutting in the future.
Seasoned hardwood firewood is available on site for $6/bundle. You are allowed to bring your own firewood, but only if you source your firewood locally because invasive pest species can travel in firewood.
Possum Holler Camp is a Leave No Trace campsite, guests are asked to pack out anything they bring in and leave the area undisturbed. This includes damaging vegetation, creating new fire rings, or altering the natural area in any way. Also, please do not camp in the meadow area and only use the cleared out areas in the woods surrounding the parking and picnic/fire area for pitching tents.
If you stay below the high water line, then feel free to move as far up or downstream Mill Creek as you like. The creek is indescribably beautiful in both directions! But please keep in mind that there is private property once you are above the high water line, please do not trespass on our neighbor's property.

The idea for creating a cabin rental/camping vacation getaway in the Allegheny Mountain Range came to life over several meetings at a Bob Evans restaurant in Columbus, Ohio, between co-owners Paul Liimatta and Joe Boffo. We had a great 3 night stay .
Steep driveway looked daunting, but it was nicely graveled, and my 2 wheel drive van had no problems getting up or down.
Provided porta potty was nice and clean .
Bundles of firewood are available for sale on site that we took advantage of .
Site was large and private .
Multiple spots to set up tents or hammocks by the beautiful creek.
The dog had a great time … was nice to be able to let her run around off leash .
Great location with easy access to the bridge and the Canyon Rim Visitor Center.
Nice general store is just a short dive away that serves great food .
We visited two breweries in the area … Free Folk Brewery and Bridge Works Brewery … recommend them both .
Nicely wooded and shady while the leaves are on the trees. Tons of rhododendron trees … must be beautiful when they are in bloom .
Would definitely stay here again in the future … highly recommended.

We absolutely loved this campsite. It was very secluded and beautiful. There is a little bit of road noise but it's really not that bad. With all that this area has to offer the road noise is worth it. It is right next to a creek and if the water had been flowing it would have been even better. We are definitely planning I'm going back in the spring. There are rhododendrum trees all around at the campsite, I'm told that they will bloom beautifully, I cannot wait to see them. Our host was always responsive and keeps the site very nice! Having the firewood already there and the portapotty was a real bonus. I cannot say enough nice things about this pla e. It is one of the best HipCamps I've ever been to.
The location is perfect literally minutes from the area's hiking and whitewater rafting and so much more.

Such a great site!! The driveway is steep but easy with an SUV. The creek was very low but provided nice ambiance anyways. Lots of tent spots as well as plenty of hammock locations. Easy access to the park and activities!

We thoroughly enjoyed escaping the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. We were thrilled to bring our two large dogs with us and enjoy the creek and the beauty of WV nature. We had several trees to choose from to hang our hammocks and plenty of room to put up our tents. You can hear the creek water trickling as you relax near the fire pit. There was a tote with items that were helpful and a grill as well as bundles of firewood that could easily be purchased. Check in and out was amazing as we did not have to meet with anyone. We were able to enjoy our short stay without worrying about neighboring campers which was the experience we were needing and hoping for.

- Each tent site was tucked away between the trees with pathways in between. Enough privacy between tents but still felt close enough to others.
Things to be aware of:
- Road to site is very steep. Everyone who joined in sedans parked at the top of the hill. People with SUVs and trucks parked at the campsite.
- Road to get to site is a little narrow. Just be careful and be prepared to pull off if need be! It’s about 1.5 cars wide.

Best site of our 5 night trip... It's secluded, right on a beautiful river, plenty of test spots, although we used a Roof Top Tent in the stone parking area - beautiful trees... and it rained some so we really appreciated the tarp shelter set up over the picnic table. We will definitely return. We didn't use the firewood however, it was nice to have it there in case, with a great fire pit.

This place is absolutely amazing! It was exactly what our family was looking for. It’s near town but secluded and peaceful. The creek was a blast for the kids. So many places to set up tents or hammocks! The porta potty was clean. We bought firewood from the rack there and that was SO very convenient! The drive is steep but well graveled. All or 4 wheel drive needed.
Fireflies were out. The raccoons are thieves so lock it up.
All in all this was a wonderful camp to call home for a few days.

We loved, loved, loved this private camp site! It was close to everything we wanted to do, but felt so secluded. We had one overland tent vehicle (4x4), and one truck tent (4x2) and the 2 wheel drive truck had no problem getting up and down the gravel hill. It was a moist trip while we were there, but there were few bugs, and a great peace in the air. We loved it! We visited Freefolk Brewing and Pies & Pints - We very much recommend after long hikes!

Beautiful camp site, plenty of space to stretch out. River right near by, great background noise to fall asleep to. Proximity to NP is tough to beat. Matthew was very responsive, I booked the site when I found all the FCFS sites in the park were taken and Matthew was able to accommodate me and there was plenty of firewood

We absolutely loved this spot! I can't say enough good things about it. It's beautiful, the water is just steps away. It was a bit to cold for this trip but I definitely plan on making another trip this summer! The host Matthew was so kind and helped me with any questions I had super fast which I can appreciate. The porta potty was clean. We had a blast exploring the river. We had no problems getting to the site. The directions were really easy to follow. It felt safe and we barely saw any cars and if you do it's hard to really pay any mind to it. It's a great site I recommend it!

Possum Holler was a lovely campsite. It was very thoughtful of the host, Matthew, to provide a picnic table with a tarp overtop. The tarp proved super helpful during our rainy stay! The port o potty, fire ring and firewood for purchase were also nice amenities! Possum Holler was quiet and peaceful and feels so much more secluded than it is! It is conveniently close to New River Bridge/Gorge attractions , but in nestled in a lovely woodland site along the babbling creek and magical rhododendron undergrowth. I bet it is spectacular when the Rhododendron flowers bloom! The creek was a relaxing sound and was crystal clear with emerald pools. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to others!
