Weekend Trip to Sunset View Farm
Stunning sunset! I will definitely be back👍🏻 I really enjoyed Mary Lou’s hospitality and Hipcamp last weekend. Perfect setup with tons of room if you have an RV or only a roof top tent like me. This would be a great place to let children or pets play. It’s peaceful and felt very safe. Lynden is a beautiful town also. It has light road traffic and it was easy to find. I enjoyed watching a few airplanes coming and going at the Lynden airport (the float plane was a real treat), and the bald eagle searching for food in the field behind my truck. Mary Lou has great communication, and is a fabulous host. I am very first camper for her place! It did not disappoint. At the site she has a nice set of chairs and portable table out for use which was helpful. I was also able to fill my water jug at the barn next to the field. I did not use the firepit, but it is in the middle of her maintained lot and would be nice to sit around. Mary Lou’s’ would be a great place for people that are waiting for the Canadian boarder to open up and are traveling in an RV as well because it lot is flat and large. The sunset was STUNNING as well. I will definitely go back.

This was our first attempt at a larger camping trip with 14 people and this site fit us all fairly comfortably! We had 4 medium/large tents set up and a pop up trailer. Not to mention 5 medium/large vehicles and we still had plenty of room to run around. The private access to the river was great for our fishing friends, the kids, and dog. There is an abundance of trees to provide excellent natural shade. The food prep/cooking area was incredibly handy. It included plenty of counter/table space, a water dispenser, and mini fridge. And our host, Cindy, was friendly, helpful, and patient with our shenanigans. We do plan to return for future camping trips!

Lovely quiet spot. We camped here the last two nights and had a fantastic time. On the second night we shared the space with a large birthday party full of teenagers and still felt like our spot was very private. This morning we saw an owl right outside our tent. Richard and Kathleen are awesome people and their property is beautiful and well maintained. We will definitely camp here again!

Great spot right on the river! As other reviews have mentioned, Cindy goes above and beyond to make her space comfortable and convenient. She has put in a lot of work, and it shows. Firewood on site is a huge bonus. Cindy's house is somewhat close to the site, but our group didn't find that it took anything away from our experience.

I've been wanting to stay here for so long,and finally got to. Cindy's camp site is so beautiful,spacious,and accommodating,as well as my fave,the river being right there. The vibrant green river rocks are phenomenal! With that said,this is not much of a swimming river,but still beautiful and fun to play around in,especially at the white sand beach,only a 5 minute walk away. We didn't love being in eye sight of the owners,but privacy was totally respected,and Cindy is super nice. The gazebo with power and fridge/freezer were awesome. The cleanest portal potty with stocked toiletries and wash sink with running water are certainly glamping bonuses. Overall,a wonderful stay. Thank you Cindy!

Our camp area is spacious and can can easily accomidate your family and even a couple of friends. Scattered trees offer shade, and large grassy areas provide ample space to roam. We are proud to say we have been named one of the top 50 Hipcamps in the US for 2025 and a top FARM STAY by Hipcamp for 2 years in a row. Rusty Ranch Tree Farm is dedicated to "Eduction through Exploration" where we strive to provide your family and friends with more than just camping but also a place to experience nature and learn about forestry. Hike the several miles of nature trails on the hillside and explore our 65 acres of certified forest. Placards on the nature trail are part of our self-guided tour and provide information about forestry and the plants and animals that call this their home. You may request a guided interactive tour for your group if you prefer or sign up for our class on making maple syrup in your own back yard. . Wander through the old growth groves, walk the 50' boardwalk and see the magical Fern Ridge. There are abundant wildflowers and seasonal berries to pick, as well as a variety of fall apples and pears in the old orchard available for self harvest. You can even purchase a tree to take home and plant. We also offer a roadside farm stand with fresh seasonal fruits and veggies as well as farm fresh eggs. Retreat to relax at Chuckanut Hills Farm and Campground, a 20-acre energy-regenerative, off-grid family farm nestled at the foot of Anderson Mountain and surrounded by thousands of acres of forest. 30 minutes south of Bellingham in the Chuckanut Mountains, the only finger of the Cascade Mountain Range that reaches all the way to the Salish Sea. This wooded forest is part of the Puget Lowland Forest Eco-Region. These hills were the native home of the Saquantch people, a Salish coast tribe that fished and hunted the mountains surrounding Lake Whatcom. They lived in long lodge homes and were later pushed out by the invading Lummi Tribe. The Lummi Tribe was later pushed out by Western logging companies, and the entire mountainous region was heavily logged for a number of years. Where our farm now rests was once the second of many logging camps built by Ed English, and he cut our gravel farm road in 1900; a railroad ran through the lower part of our property, taking logs from Lake Whatcom down to the little boom town of Seattle. Our intention while being caretakers of this ancestral land is to restore native plants, raise heirloom produce and heritage animals, and provide a restful nature paradise for people looking to spend time in the outdoors.

Thank you all for 2025!!! If the ground is not frozen, reach out! I may be able to book you in. Stay in our cabin at the estuary on Turners Bay where wildlife is abundant and easy to see. The Bamboo cabin is very private and has everything you need to just hang out. Saltgrass's location allows for many fun outdoor activities such as hiking at Kukutali Preserve State Park, crabbing, fishing, birding, bicycling and playing on the beach, my kids actually found a bottle with a message inside years ago. Alternatively, you could explore the many little shops in the towns of La Conner and Anacortes. There are multiple activities available, I would suggest calling ahead in order to book kayaking, rock climbing, whale watching, or a sailing charter. You could easily take a day trip to the San Juan Islands by taking a ferry ride out of Anacortes, walk on or book ahead if you are taking your car. Also, the Swinomish Casino and golf course are within two miles. While you're here you may meet our pup Turner, we also have two cats and several chickens. On the property are your hosts Jeri and Nancy, as well as our handyman Shawn, Saltgrass boasts beautiful flowers, vegetable gardens, fruit trees, and yes, the Bay. We try to live harmoniously with the land. We would love to share our space with you! Due to potential freezing weather and vulnerable water pipes, we have changed our booking to making a reservation confirmation. It has been a wonderful summer for us here at Saltgrass, meeting new people and welcoming back our repeat guests. We thank you all for visiting our place and hope we meet your expectations. October 10 2025, A new addition to the bamboo cabin; we built gates that allow you to secure the deck as an outside space for your dog. Watch the sunset into the world famous San Juan Islands. Our property is located on the scenic Chuckanut Drive. It is a 15 minute walk to Taylor United's Seafood Bar that has beer and wine. You will need boots just below the knee, or hiking shoes that will get wet. The Creek crossing is a little deeper this year. You will also be crossing a muddy area for about 20 yards, you will sink about 3 inches into the mud. The hike into the campsite takes 12 minutes. You need to contact me to check the tides, as to be able to get to the campsite. We need to hike in below a 5 foot tide. Starting October, the campsite closes for winter. Again , this campsite is Tide dependent. The first question to me should be, What is the latest we can hike in? I am not Moses, I can’t part the sea. Camp closed during winter October/ march
