The Forest Cupcake

1 site · Lodging20 acres · Lyle, WA
This unique place in Lyle, Washington - part of the Columbia River Gorge scenic area - is magical and utterly beautiful. The property is set in a magnificent meadow as far as the eye can see with soft rolling hills, edged up to a deep oak woodland/ponderosa pine forest. Wildlife, stars, trails, and rivers all abound here. We think it is one of the finest, most precious and beautiful places on the planet. For outdoor recreation, this area is a windsurfing and kiteboarding mecca. Mount Adams and Mount Hood, await hikers and skiers, and kayaking is popular on the Klickitat and White Salmon Rivers. Heart-stopping beauty and peacefulness whichever way you turn. You will feel like you have gone to your own little Shangri-La and you will not soon forget the experience. Even sleeping is special here, as you look up into the dome of the yurt and behold the stars, while twinkle lights gently illuminate the interior. We live in a slice of heaven, and we want to share it with others.

#ElRanchDeCMS

5 sites · RVs, Tents96 acres · Bickleton, WA
We bought this property a couple of years ago.  Through trial and error, we have slowly worked it into our place of sanctuary.  We have adventures of all kinds! Sometimes the conditions have kicked our butt's, but other times we have found ourselves surrounded by immense beauty.Learn more about this land:As you leave your home in the city (especially the Portland/Seattle areas) your drive starts out tense.  Drivers cutting you off, brake lights forcing you to slam on yours, and slow drivers generally make the drive miserable. However as you make the turn on the gravel...you feel it as the stress leaves your body...its like your whole being knows you are leaving the city behind.  Then you see the trees and you feel the Shinrinyoku (Japanese for "taking in the forest atmosphere").  It's like the trees know your stressful life and they invite you to bathe in their essence!  And then you see the gate and the main camping area...you are here and the first thing you notice is how quiet it is!!  You head up to Big Baldy to check out the view (Mt. Adams and Mt. Rainier) and you take a deep breath of fresh mountain air.  Back at camp, as night rolls in you see more stars than you can count and you and your family hear some coyotes in the distance while roasting marshmallows as the adults sip on adult beverages.  This is El Rancho de CMS!At El Rancho De CMS there is no Cell service and limited incoming text service.  However if you must check in to the modern world there is a road to the top of the property that allows for full 4g service so that you can upload pictures and video to Facebook/Instagram (#FunAtElRanchoDeCMS).  Down in the main camping area we have multiple bathrooms that use the Lovable Loo compostable toilet system (Google lovable loo for more info) just do the business and cover with sawdust.  We have camping in multiple areas!  El Rancho De CMS is currently at 96 acres and borders State land with another 640 acres.  The last 7 miles are all gravel/dirt roads coming in so if its been wet out the roads will be muddy (4x4 recomended).  During the summer months the roads are really dry and cars can make it in, but an SUV is recommended due to rough roads, and potential clearance issues.  During the winter the Ranch gets enough snow to make it hard to get in! During Spring months there are some creeks that are running and fun to play in to get a break from the heat.  So depending on what kind of adventure you are looking for the Ranch is pretty versatile.  Give us a call and let us help you have a heck of a time getting away!Kid and Dog friendly!!!!  Kid area includes trampoline, tire swing, zip line, and more to come.  Friendly dogs are allowed to run free at the dog owners discretion.  Dog kennel available for "Time-Outs".Finally, please be sure to rate the experience and tell the world about your time at El Rancho De CMS!*Note bring extra gas (5 gallons) as there is no gas stations once past the major towns of Goldendale from the West and Mabton from the North.  From the South Biggs Jct./Hermiston are the closest towns.  Call for more info and tips!

Wildheart Homestead

4 sites · RVs, Tents5 acres · Goldendale, WA
Our humble homestead sits on five beautiful acres of combined oak forest and wildflower prairie in a region of Washington state so renowned for its recreational opportunities that it's referred to as "Sportsman's Paradise". We're just getting started here, but have big plans for establishing a self-sustaining intentional community centered around teaching visitors about primitive skills such as hide-tanning, herbalism, wilderness survival, and wildlife tracking; as well as important modern homesteading skills like managing a composting toilet system, growing gardens, setting up alternative power sources, and raising livestock. We have the astounding privilege to live within just 20 minutes of the Columbia River Gorge, world-famous for its numerous fishing, wind-sports, and adventuring opportunities. This is a region famous also for big game hunting (deer, elk, bear, cougar), wild-foraging of edible mushrooms (morels, in particular), wineries, art museums, and more! Located just a 10-minute drive from the heart of Goldendale, Washington, you can enjoy the seclusion of our land while remaining close to restaurants, bars, grocery stores, laundry service, a community pool, mechanics services, and many other amenities. Learn more about this land:Pitch your tent in our beautiful oak grove, or in the heart of our wildflower prairie in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. You'll have easy access to potable water, a composting toilet, and can take advantage of the unique opportunity to learn about primitive skills and the homesteading lifestyle from your hosts, Danny and Sarah. Danny is an herbalist and studies plant medicine extensively, often utilizing materials foraged from the property or from the nearby woods. Upon request, Danny can lead herb walks and foraging talks to interested campers. Sarah is an accomplished survivalist and taxidermy artist, who teaches hide-tanning, skinning, and butchering. She has been featured on national television for her primitive survival skills, and can teach classes on tracking wildlife and tanning animal skins. Let our homestead serve as your home base while you fish, hunt, hike, and explore the stunning Columbia River Gorge!

Milk A Sheep Camp

4 sites · RVs, Tents450 acres · Lexington, OR
Didn't know you could milk a sheep? Or thought only cows made cheese? Come find out how it's done on this seasonal working ranch here in Eastern Oregon. Lambs are born in the spring and their moms are milked all summer long. I raise my sheep on fresh grass and sunshine. Come see for yourself here on the ranch. Pitch a tent on the pasture and literally count the sheep around you before falling asleep or climb the hill and see for miles in every direction. We may be close to the road, but it doesn't feel like it. We can accommodate campers, RVs, trucks, tents, and vans. 4 sites to chose from. Each site has access to a toilet, potable water, shower, picnic tables, trash disposal, and we allow campfires (outside of burn bans), and pets.  We also sell fresh eggs, firewood, and lamb sausage. Our guests love staying with us: "There’s fireside fun in fresh country air, rolling hills around the farm to walk along to enjoy the wide expansive view, and sights and sounds of animals around camp to make for a relaxing day. There’s kittens, dairy sheep, gigantic but friendly herd dogs, and a variety of chickens and ducks. The host was kind and friendly. Try the sheep’s milk cheese - what a treat!"

Nadja's Hideway

4 sites · Lodging5 acres · Lyle, WA
Happy New Year! We’ll be ready to open up again this spring, so start planning for the 2024 season. Hope you can be our guest this year. Play in Hood River during the day, relax in the country at night. We're 6.5 miles up in the hills, called High Prairie, above the sleepy town Lyle. Enjoy the peace on our 5 acre hideaway, wake up with the chickens - we have a rooster just FYI - (and yes we sell fresh eggs :). Take a walk to look at Mt. Adams which is just around the corner. Hiking, biking, kite boarding, windsurfing all within a few miles of reach with never ending opportunities to get your exercise. Just ask for tips. The land has mostly Oak trees where you can take your nap in your hang matt. The place is easy accessible, far away from all but still close to all Gorge attractions during the day. The town has a nice little convenience store, breakfast place and the Sandbar that has good food and some entertainment. Grocery shopping is best done in Hood River, White Salmon or The Dalles. Once up here, there isn't much, so come prepared.
