Some other incredible things about camping at Sharp's Island: You can motor up to it from Ancarrow's Landing, canoe over from the trail just below Mayo Bridge, or make this the destination for your downriver raft/kayak trip; at summer river levels there are oodles of great swimming holes along the banks; fire pit ready and waiting for you. Hike the trails, visit the farm animals and explore the surrounding countryside. Winter campers! The cabin is heated with a woodstove and is toasty warm on chilly nights with a fire going. The cabin was the first dwelling built on our farm and is only 40 minutes from Richmond, ideal for a quick getaway. We have friendly goats, cows and chickens on our 21 acre family homestead. Tucked into the woods, the farm is peaceful and private. There are walking paths through the woods and a creek to explore. You are welcome to visit the animals. The farm is about halfway between Richmond and Charlottesville. We are about 15 miles from the James River at Maidens. There is a super hip farmstand (like a mini Whole Foods) and an old fashioned country store 2 miles up the road and a good Mexican place about 15 minutes away. To the east is Montpelier and to the west is Louisa, both have all the modern stores and conveniences along with some country charm. You will park near the trailhead and it is a 2 minute walk down a wooded trail. The cabin is one room with a loft. There is a queen size memory foam bed in the loft (up a ladder) and a small wood stove with a cooktop for chilly nights that will keep you toasty warm. Welcome!

it was a pleasure to camp at the creekside cool bus! the whole experience came with ease, starting with great communication from chloe, the skoolie provided everything we needed (& more) for a cozy retreat into nature. there was plenty to explore, a gnome lined walking trail along the creek and a short drive to the state park. the campsite is isolated enough to have your own privacy but close enough to access the full bathroom. it really was the perfect place for reconnection with each other and nature.

This is a unique place to stay with lots to do all around it. The bus was well equipped with everything you need to enjoy a peaceful quiet vacation or long weekend. I loved this little secluded retreat! I'm a 42 yr old female and I felt completely safe staying there by myself. The only two things I'll mention that I think people should be aware of. One is that the toilet is kinda more like a glorified outhouse. I've never seen anything like it and it was very awkward to use. I wound up just using the woods after a couple of uses. The other thing was that the bed was difficult getting into and out of due to the railing of the sliding door; and I'm a small flexile person. I think anyone larger than me would struggle. I really enjoyed my stay, but I think those are two major things renters should be aware of in case they are important to you.

Impressive luxury feel! Comfortable bedding, beautiful design, full house bathroom (separated by locked door from rest of home), and bus bathroom for #1. Electricity and running water in the bus, and a flipbook with the origin story of the bus, and restaurant recs including Hidden Wit Brewery where we enjoyed music bingo while the kids ran around a play yard with new friends. A peaceful trail on the property. Recommend!

Weekend Trip to Sharp's Island

We had a blast camping out on Sharp's Island! It was a spontaneous adventure and I'm so glad we were able to book. The island is such a cool spot, we had amazing sunset views and ample room to set up. Andy is a great host, and I'd definitely recommend staying here! The canoe ride over isn't very far and is safe, and Andy will tell you (and like other reviews have said) just pay attention to the tides and river water levels! If you can, time your crossings closer to high tide when the current isn't as strong. If the river is high and it's low tide, paddling to the island can be more of a workout!

Fun set up - very organized and clean. In a neighborhood setting but the creek and small trail was perfect for our stay. Like getting out in nature without any of the hassle. Very quick communication too. Great people, great bus. Would def stay again.
