The Appalachian Trail and Virginia Creeper Trail are a few miles away in Damascus, Va, where you can bike, hike, shop or eat. Just a 45 minute drive away is Grayson Highlands, where you can hike and see the wild ponies! Abingdon, VA is 20 minutes away. Hang out around a fire, fish (if you have your fishing license), or just relax by the river! We are excited to share our favorite camping spot. The site is as described. True primitive campsite with the ability to camp wherever your feet or vehicle can make it. I stayed at the furthest point past the pond. Parked right next to a babbling brook and took in the peace. He has scrap wood (dry) for fires, a workshop bathroom w/hot water. David was a fantastic host and appreciate him giving us the opportunity to stay on his land.

Cameron's land was great! For primitive camping it has great amenities like a picnic table and a clean porta potty. We also loved being by the river as well as the view of the mountains. Keep in mind that the property is surrounded on all sides by roads so taking a shower may need a curtain or something. Also there is some kinds of dog kennel or something up the mountain nearby so you hear a lot of dogs barking on and off. Overall we would def stay again because of its close proximity to Damascus and the fact you get the property to your self makes it an amazing find!

It has taken a while to finally camp at Nathan’s Mountain view camp spot( no 1) and we were so happy to be there. A full moon, falling leaves, total peace and quiet, it was perfect. Drinking our morning coffee watching a hawk flying across the grass right in-front of us. The camping area is as clean as a whistle . We have a 20ft ford e350 campervan conversion and we managed the track up to the site easily to site 1, probably wouldn’t have managed it to 2. Thank you .

Beautiful campsite, stayed on a rainy day this time, but will be back next time I'm in the area!

We had a great time in our little meadow! The world slipped away as we sat by the camp fire and stared at the stars at night and watched 1000s of butterflies dance during the day.

Weekend Trip to Channels Park Edge Campsites

As others mentioned, the road up to the site is steep, but my rear wheel drive camper van had no trouble with it. Once at the site I met Nathan and Anna who were just finishing cutting the grass around the site. The site sits on a little knoll with enough flat space for several tents or campers. The site was clean, pleasant, and quiet. And dark. At night we had great views of the milky way and satellites, serenades by the night insects. I recommend this spot. And, if your purpose in staying here is to visit the Channels, it is only a mile up the road.

What a gorgeous place to spend a few days! Or even longer!! My family and I loved camping here. It is exactly how it’s described and looks in the pictures. Not to mention Cameron being very helpful and timely with his responses. And make sure you check out Damascus while you’re here. Such a cute town! We will with out a doubt back!!

This was our 3rd trip to Beech Grove River spot. So glad to find a place close to home away from everyday life. Great place to fish, as the river is right there! There is a great fire ring for all to gather around. Friends went with us to for our weekend getaway and are looking forward to our next time. Cameron it a great host and so happy that she shares her farmland for others to enjoy!

Hipcamp was exactly as described & we had a great time. Although the road in was steep, it was short & my rear wheel drive van made it just fine. We enjoyed the privacy & beautiful mountain views . Will definitely be back when we can hike the Channels.

1 night at Creeping Thyme Forest

The property is beautiful with lots of options for where to set up camp! I wish it was a little more maintained to make things easier, but we did book last minute. Camping here feels like you are super remote just enjoying sounds of nature and seeing stars. Definitely make sure you get to the place prior to sunset as there’s no signage or lights.

What a beautiful, quiet and relaxing site. we have stayed there several times and will go again soon. It is off the beaten path, yet convenient to nearby towns. The site is right on the river with lots of shade trees for fishing. A delightful weekend getaway! Thank you Cameron!!
