Not to be confused with a vineyard, Bar Z works with Texas High Plains vineyard owners and takes their high-quality Texas grown grapes and makes them into award-winning, full-bodied red wines.
Founder and Vintner, Monty Dixon, would tell you he’s been making adult beverages since he was nine years old. In his elementary school library there was a book that gave crude instructions on how to make beer at home. Monty’s precocious and daring nature led to adventures in backyard chemistry. It wasn’t until his teens and young adult years that he would graduate to casual wine-making. But casual wasn’t enough for Monty.
This is no vintner’s hobby house. Bar Z Winery combines art, science, and years of experience to create elegant wines. Monty’s passion and hard work go into every bottle making these entirely Texan wines contenders on the world stage. Bar Z Winery has competed against Napa Valley wines, French wines – often considered the greatest – yet their native Texan creations have taken home the gold.
Much like his wine, Monty Dixon is unfiltered, robust, and wholly unique. If he has a free moment, he’ll happily bend your ear about the science of wine and Bar Z’s simple, yet effective philosophy: Let the wine be wine. Bar Z Winery prides itself on utilizing the unique Texas terroir to create a wine that expresses the hard work of the vineyard owners, the soil it was grown in, and the love of Texas shared by those who enjoy these unique, award-winning wines.
We are available for check-in Monday through Wednesday 1:00 PM - 7:00 PM and Thursday through Sunday 1:00 PM - 9:00 PM. The Winery is closed at times not listed and the gate will be closed at that time. If you have a confirmed reservation, and you need to arrange for an after-hours arrival, please make sure to call the winery and speak with one of our staff at least an hour prior to closing to provide us with your ETA and get instructions for getting onto the property.
IF WE DO NOT HEAR FROM YOU AN HOUR PRIOR TO CLOSING, THERE IS A CHANCE THE FRONT GATE WILL BE CLOSED AND LOCKED, AND YOU WILL BE UNABLE TO ACCESS THE PROPERTY, SO PLEASE CALL THE WINERY IF YOU ARE RUNNING LATE.

Monty was quick to respond to my question. It was easy to find. The land felt totally safe. We just needed a place to stay on the way to Santa Fe to break up the trip and this was perfect. Would definitely stay again if needed.

We stayed here one night with our RV and really liked it! 😊 The place felt safe and peaceful, and we slept great. The laundry was nice — not spotless, but the machines were good and it’s great that you can see the remaining time in the app. There’s also a gas station nearby, which is super convenient. The sunset was beautiful, and at night we could see lots of stars ✨ The only downside was a bit of an unpleasant smell in the evening, but overall a really good stay. Definitely recommend! 🚐🌅

Monty’s setting is terrific - beautiful views over a canyon, especially at sunset. A big area for campers. We were surprised to see over a dozen others there (but always delight in comparing the rigs!) And the winery, friendly service, and Rockin Music were fun! Dog friendly. Great hosts. Sweet spot.

Awesome overnight stay! When we get there the bar was still open and we were able to enjoy the beautiful evening with our kids and really good glass of wine, so well welcome after 8hours on the road. Host was very responsive and attentive to our questions and needs.

This was a great stop over spot for me since it is so close to the highway. There was a lot of construction on the way getting there, so the Google maps spot sent me to the wrong spot. However the owner was quick to get back to me with correct directions.

Stayed overnight and it was a beautiful, secure property. Despite arriving after dark (we were coming from SD) we got setup and really enjoyed the quietness. Sadly we didn’t think to preorder a bottle of wine lol. Have it saved if we are ever in the area again!

This low key, but cute winery was a fun night for us. Arrived just in time to get a great bottle wine for sharing and one for home. The young guy in the tasting room was super welcoming and helpful. We enjoyed delicious charcuterie cups and their flatbread pizzas were a hit with the family/kids (saved me from having to cook!). Had fun playing corhole and watching the sunset before we when back to camper ahead of a storm that was rolling in. Level ground, quiet boondocking with potable water access from spigot next to a wall, across from main building (ask them and they'll point it out). This was our first time boondocking in this camper, but we had a great time and wouldn't hesitate to stop here for a night.

5 stars all the way! Perfect for those traveling and needing a quiet and large space. Many roads traverse the property but from experience, I'd go it on foot. Super friendly and extremely helpful caretakers. Keep it clean, it's a beautiful piece of land!

Waking up to a symphony of no less than 6 varities of morning birdsongs was a dream come true. I heard the most amazing song from one bird, by far the best I've ever heard in my life! The birds were happy, they loved both sunset and sunrise. It was very special to share their home, an experience I will never forget. The Land Trust is amazing, untouched and wild, I hope it stays that way. The caretakers were trusting and open, allowing me to fold into the landscape wherever I chose, I was careful to leave no tracks so enjoy.
