Paisano Azul Ranch is on 30 acres located by Terlingua Creek. The property is just minutes from the Terlingua Ghost Town and a short 3 mile drive to the Big Bend National park. Come pitch your tent or park your camper amid the peaceful desert hillside with views of plateaus that lead to the Chisos Mountains in Big Bend National Park. There is a fire pit on site for you to toast marshmallows or cozy up near, and you can enjoy a bite to eat at the picnic table provided at each site. The picnic tables are placed beneath shade sails. There are two nice and new desert tan flushing Porta-Potties on-site, as well as showers for guests to use. These come in handy after a long day hiking. There are plenty of opportunities to get out and explore - you can hike, bike, canoe camp; kayak, off-road, swim, go horseback riding, visit hot springs, as well as visit restaurants, galleries, and listen to great music in Terlingua. There is something for everyone to feel free to bring the whole family. DIRECTIONS: Once you are on Road Runner Circle, go past the house on the left with the Christmas lights on. Please continue down the road and follow the road around the curve to the left. The campsites will be on the left and side behind the rock walls. The campsite number that is booked is the campsite you will stay in. Additional details to note: - We now have an above ground pool to keep cool in during the summer! Covered with a shade sail the water stays nice and chilly. ($10 fee/person) - You can stay connected if you'd like to, as cell reception and wifi are both available by the showers. Feel free to unplug during your stay though. - Seeing other campers on your trip at the campsite is very standard, as the sites are far enough apart to feel like they are yours, but they are not private. - Non potable water is provided on-site. Probably my favorite Hipcamp ever over my ~6 years of use. Terlingua is amazing, but wouldn’t have near as much charm without Temple Of The Bird and Mike to own/operate. Locals gravitate there because it’s such a cool hangout and it had the best views in town. I’ll always stop in to say “Hey” if I’m remotely close and stay there for any future visits to the area.

we really enjoyed our two days stayed at Mike's place (temple of the bird). we reached right at the thanksgiving eve and the place was buzzing. food, music, campfire...it was such a cool experience at the heart of terlingua ghost town. If you like mingling with a crowd and make new friends, you are going to enjoy this place. Mike is an awesome host and helped with everything that we asked for. he replied to all my messages promptly and the decked out kitchen was a real plus. We rented the sleeping bunks which were affordable and cozy. terlingua itself is pretty cool with the dark sky and you can see all the stars. one thing to note, it is not exactly close to big bend, and having a car with high clearance, like a 4x4, really helps to move around. i hope i can go back just to stay for a few days and chill. thanks Mike and keep flippin'

I stayed in the bunkhouse for one night. After several days of hiking and bikepacking I just wanted one night in a real bed before my long drive home, but I stumbled on a place that I'll be visiting every time I stay in Terlingua. This is a very cool place, and I met some cool people.

My group stayed at "El Groupo" site. It was PERFECT! When I was looking around for somewhere to stay while I was at Big bend, there was definitely no shortage of glamping locations. But this was the perfect secluded and nature immersed location that let you connect with the outdoors. While still having access to the basic necessities like showers and restrooms. (And a added bonus of a pool to chill after a warm day of hiking.) All while being just a minute or two drive from the Terlingua restaurants and bars if you feel like getting some great grilled food or a cold beer. Would most definitely stay here again!

Weekend Trip to Temple of the Bird

Mike is the host and obviously a loved member of his community in Terlingua. We come to Terlingua often and chose Temple of the Bird for this particular trip because we wanted to spend more time with the community and spirit of the town and we totally nailed it with this place! Lots of good vibes and friendly folks. We watched him put together an impromptu brunch with a band, potluck, and the amazing hang out setting of the Temple of the Bird in a matter of 24 hours. What’s best, is when we were done, we were able to drive the top of our hill where our campsite, perfectly secluded from the action. The bathrooms are hilarious (filled with joke signs), clean, comfortable, and hot showers! We were sure to not dilly dally since it’s the desert and the water is not ours, but it sure was nice having access to a hot shower at a big bend campsite! The kitchen is stocked with all you need, come and go as you please. And the common area was really great to have morning coffee, afternoon drinks, and night time stargazing. A totally win! So glad we came.
