In fact, my mother grew up there after my Grandfather returned from WWII when there was no electricity and the outhouse was a bench over the creek. I grew up hiking the mountains with my brothers and our BB guns and my Uncle Frank at our family reunions. In 2005 he deeded us a parcel of land and we built our first cabin - Smawlie. We love to come to the cabin and Hike the trails on our own property, and of course, the world famous ones that join them, namely the Bartram and the Appalachian Trails. As you explore the lake, the trails, the rivers, and the mountain roads you'll see why our ancestors settled here. In 2018 - we bought the remainder of Uncle Frank's land - and in his honor built our second cabin - Frank's Landing. Also in that year I started managing my brother Bill's cabin. When we were stationed in Alaska for 6 heavenly years - we purchased a remote parcel of property and have slowly begun to develop it. We just completed building our cabin there. I cannot emphasize enough how beautiful this spot is. The stream, the trees, the quiet. I have camped in almost every state, and this is easily one of my favorite sites. The road in a bit bumpy, but doable. I easily made the trek in a civic. The road is also great for taking a scenic walk. The covered porch was perfect for a rainy afternoon, and the heater was a welcome addition on cool autumn evenings. Close to the stunning Joyce Kilmer Wilderness & Nantahala National Forest. I hope to come back again!

Overall, we really loved this cabin. There are a lot of cute touches with the art work and cat perches. It was well appointed for camping (glamping?) and had games, cooking pans, and lighter, etc. Cute and cozy.

We loved this site! The creek is so peaceful and the cabin was perfect. The site is easy to find using Brian’s directions. I’d recommend getting there before the sun goes down because it is very dark (but great for stargazing!).

Weekend Trip to Mountain Creek Rest

Perfect spot to disconnect and be in a serene place all weekend! PLEASE BEWARE there is a giant active yellow jacket nest right on the bank of the creek at the site. If you have kids or are allergic, just be mindful. Brian was very easy to communicate with. The directions he sends you beforehand are spot on and we had no problem getting there. We did download an “offline map” (iPhone) before we lost service which was great to use on the way out of there. Wasn’t necessary but it was helpful. Even during the day, the cabin is pretty dark so bring extra lighting. Everything was very clean. The wood stove kept it nice and cozy. We will definitely be back!

The cabin is very secluded and peaceful. Right by the river. This is such a magical space. Will be back! Ps. Bring lighting- string lights(battery powered), lanterns, headlamps because the cabin gets very dark at night.

Overall excellent experience, the neighboring campsite is just close enough to hear them if they’re loud at all, but otherwise no complaints. Unfortunately the neighbors had two very obnoxious aggressive dogs one of whom even ran over and bit my foot (lightly) the first day. Thankfully they left after the first night and we had the rest of the time to ourselves. We stayed during the last week of July and the water was cool but refreshing, our 8yr old loved playing in the creek. Bring a fan for the cabin if you’re coming during summer, but it’s cooler there than in robbinsville or out on the lake.

I have to admit I was a little anxious driving as far in as we did for this site - but it was well worth it. Do not pass up saving your directions sent to you ahead of time! Also definitely pack everything you need if youre not planning to venture out anywhere as coming and going takes a while. The cabin was lovely and cozy, plus the sound of running water made it even better! It felt like a dream that we had the whole spot to ourselves. I would highly recommend for a creek side camp spot! It was a well stocked cabin for an unplugged trip.

Such a beautiful property. The Barn is a really sweet, charming cabin. The moss in the front, the creek on the side, bigger creek across the street, lofted beds, outdoor shower. A great blend of rustic with modern comforts. We hope to be back

The Cowgirl was completely sucluded as advertised. Only us and the wildlife. Dogs had plenty of room to roam off leash as well. They loved it. Cabin is well stocked with everything you need. Amy was very responsive. Would definitely Glamp here again. :)

This little cabin was perfectly situated among the trees up among the mountains. Nice and private, with the perfect backyard clearing for a great fireside experience. A babbling creek running through the back made for beautiful ambient sound of water running, and offered a spot to cool off your toes. Inside the cabin there’s a wood stove to warm up to— we stayed outside enjoying nature so late into the night that we didn’t end up lighting it. But next time we come to stay, we surely will. Also, losing cell service is always a blessing when getting away! Lol! We highly recommend staying here<3

Perfect off grid, private, comfortable cabin located in a great location to explore eastern Tenn. The Cumberland gap has dozens of unique places to explore. Having the cabin with its little creek running through the property as base camp was wonderful. Will visit again soon. 5/5!👍🏼
