Jen and Joe moved to the South Carolina Upstate in 2023 and discovered they were within minutes of the Foothills Trail. The trail is 76.2 miles of waterfalls, rivers, and mountains stretching from Oconee State Park to Table Rock State Park. As soon as the oldest child moved out of his room above the garage, we started hosting thru-hikers hostel-style. Fair warning: it’s an “open concept” bathroom, true studio style. Great for one person but could be awkward for two.

It is impossible to state how lovely this location and hosts are! Every accommodation and possible need was sumptiuously met. The room had a plush sense of comfort and a thoughtful design for utility. It is a perfect location for endless hiking and historical adventures, and the town of Pickens is adorable yet also full of every necessary type of shop or eatery. The property is impeccable and peaceful. The hosts clearly love their home, town and nature. They were deeply kind and were a wealth of information about area hikes and destinations!

Lovely view of the river, and the drive through the cornfield was fun! It rained and I saw why 4wd was necessary. Campsites are a little close together but still relatively private.

Good communication with Patrick, much appreciated. The road in does have several muddy spots. To pass them you’ll need to stay to the right or left (don’t put your tires into the ruts) and accelerate to maintain forward momentum is important. The sites themselves are tidy and have a nice view of the river. The picnic tables are made of composite material and well-put together. There is also a sturdy metal fire pit which is nice.

In town for some mtn biking. Pisgah stable road was closed where we normally camp. Davidson river campsite was full but we got on the wait list. That didn’t come thru. Hipcamp gave us our best option - and accommodating last minute. Cars be warned - the road to the sites was muddy with some deep ruts. I made it to the site with my 2 wheel drive truck but had to move fast thru the sections. Was part of the fun. Great location. We were sure 23. 2 cars backed in no prob. 3 tents fit easily. Close to portopotty and firewood. Getting into the river required skill and we used a tow rope to rappel down. All good. Hope to do it again some time.

Quiet, no loud noises. Peaceful, on a rural road/street. Easy to access. Subdued, no oppressive street lights. Site nearly level and had water and electricity. For sites with no bathhouse and no picnic table, this is as good as you can find. I had an exceptionally positive experience.

Patrick is a wondeful and accomdating host. Site 2 was beautifully shaded just as the picture shows. There was a good amount of rain before and during my stay. The recommendation for 4WD is a fair one. It set and met my expectation, and met that expectation. It's of course relative to your comfort level. I had my minivan and was ok.

Patrick is an excellent host. Very attentive. Camp site was recently cleared nicely for our arrival with fresh cut grass. Toilet was clean and stocked with paper and hand sanitizer. Well marked camp with posted sign easily seen from river. Fire wood available. Amber responded immediately to questions on hip camp app.
Patrick answered all questions regarding the camp site and river conditions.
