Barefoot Travelers Rooms Guesthouse

We came down here from New England in 1997 because we were invited by some locals to teach hanggliding here.  At that time as certified HG instructors we thought ok lets try..came down here with our backpacks, a few hang gliders, and figured we would see how it worked out. Renting places to stay for a few years and including rooms for visiting students we had this opportunity to get and fix up this old house. It was a continuation of my dream to have a back pack travelers , adventure travelers, artists, LBGTQ friendly, off the beaten path type of place to stay.

And so in 2004 Barefoot Travelers Rooms and Adventures Guesthouse was born.

She even had a little cooler for me to use, which became my best friend and new life essential. 😹

Augusto’s Land of The Dragonfly

There’s a poet, a photographer, a novelist, a painter, a yogi, a guru, a psychic, a lawyer who once dreamt of this land and fought a great battle for it. He was  inspired among the land, the beauty and the magic that brings the muse living within the forest. The legend and the journey has just begun. Be part of Auguto’s dream. This is my land preserved by the Great Spirit to be shared with the whole world. It’s a real and true legend and is still happening. 

Hacienda Monte Rey near El Yunque

The property has been in the Monge family since the 1940's bought by Jose Monge Marquez. The campsite is located in a private property in the outskirts of El Yunque Rainforest in the town of Luquillo. The campsite areas and facilities are about 8 out of 43 acres of all the private property of rainforest, flowers, palm trees, and various fruit trees.

The Sabana River, one of many that originate from El Yunque National Rainforest, the river goes through the property. All the campsites are close by the river with each having their own access and individual fire pits.

The local attractions are:
-El Yunque National Rainforest 15 minute drive up the mountain.
-Las Paylas rockslides (2 minute drive & 8 minutes walking).
-The Luquillo beaches which are La Pared, Playa Azul, Barneario de Luquillo. Los Kioskos de Luquillo, ect. (10 minutes drive).
