The Sabana River, one of many that originate from El Yunque National Rainforest, the river goes through the property. All the campsites are close by the river with each having their own access and individual fire pits. The local attractions are: -El Yunque National Rainforest 15 minute drive up the mountain. -Las Paylas rockslides (2 minute drive & 8 minutes walking). -The Luquillo beaches which are La Pared, Playa Azul, Barneario de Luquillo. Guest can explore around the premises at his/her own risk. Pets should remain on leash. Please, do not cross to the neighbors yards uninvited. Hiking jewels can be found at 20 minutes drive: Las Tetas between Cayey-Salinas, Canon San Cristobal between Aibonito-Barranquitas, and Bosque Carite, Cayey. Other things to note Property is not fully fenced. Nights can be really colds so bring your jackets. The place uses solar lights, doesn't have electricity, so be prepared to connect with nature. Must bring your own tent, blankets and towels. Guest should bring his own food. Coal available no extra cost. Area can accommodate a few other camping tents for an extra charge. There is a private greenhouse in the property where you can buy exotic plants. Please note that this is a residential area. Noises should be avoided. Pick up your garbage. Parking spot is located outside the property so you must be willing to walk downhill to access the area. We only use solar or batteries lights. Outside dining table included. Guest can explore around the premises at his/her own risk. Pets should remain on leash. Please, do not cross to the neighbors yards uninvited. Hiking jewels can be found at 20 minutes drive: Las Tetas between Cayey-Salinas, Canon San Cristobal between Aibonito-Barranquitas, and Bosque Carite, Cayey. Other things to note Property is not fully fenced. Nights can be really colds so bring your jackets. The place uses solar lights, doesn't have electricity, so be prepared to connect with nature. I absolutely loved my tent stay on Zach and Mariah's farm! I had full privacy when that's what I wanted and a beautiful river so close by! The glamping was comfortable and serene. I got accustomed to the sound of almonds dropping on the tin roof. Lol The tin roof would have been really nice if it rained but fortunately the weather was perfect for my stay. It was a perfect shelter nonetheless. Zach and Mariah are super sweet and accommodating. They showed me a gorgeous river spot. And the animals are absolutely charming 😍 I will definitely return to camp there again!

Zach and Mariah’s land is absolutely amazing! For the past 4 years my son and I have been camping in Puerto Rico for Thanksgiving week, always staying in different areas to really get to know the island. Hands down, their spot is by far the best! Not only is the campsite equipped with most everything you will need, it has a beautiful creek running around and beside it. There are hiking trails to explore on the land, natural pools to soak in with large boulders to relax on, bamboo groves and old growth trees. And the energy of the place is incredible. What we also loved is that when you’re there you feel so far away from civilization but in actuality only minutes away from food, shopping, everything you need. And with Camp Arabuko as our home base, within 15 min to 1 hour you can be at some of the most gorgeous waterfalls and swimming holes on the island!! Or even down to the coast or back in San Juan in less than an hour. This area is now our all time favorite and we will definitely be coming back to stay with Zach and Mariah, whom by the way, are amazing people and so helpful if you should need anything or have questions.. I highly recommend staying here and am already looking forward to our next visit 🌈☀️🌀💦

This campsite is a must-visit on the island. There’s a trail inside the property that leads to a stunning waterfall where you can enjoy the view and even take a swim. The campsite also has chickens, a horse, and a pig, it's clear the host truly loves this place and has decorated it with so much care. She even brought us delicious coffee in the morning, which was incredibly sweet. I’d definitely come back the next time I visit Puerto Rico!

They went out of their way to make sure we had a safe place to park our 22ft camper van, even letting us in after regular hours, after all our other overnight camping options had fallen through. Great communication and a nice spot in the jungle next to running water and plenty of coquis to sing us to sleep. Will definitely consider coming back for more than just an overnight stay next time!

Truly amazing spot to camp. The river borders thousands of acres of protected tropical rainforest. A trail takes you to an epic swimming hole and to a beautiful waterfall!! The bathrooms have the best hot showers on the island. I never ran out of hot water. The covered camping area kept me nice and dry and the stove was handy. The farm and chickens and horse are nice. The hosts couldn't have been nicer! My favorite camp!

The best camping in San Juan National Historic Site, PR guide

Overview

About

Step into the past at this World Heritage Site in the heart of Old San Juan. Walls and fortresses built 400 years ago draw history lovers to this Caribbean treasure. Put on your walking shoes, and take a full day to explore the beautifully preserved fortresses.

The site's structures offer a glimpse of the centuries-long fight over the sought-after island. Here, you can explore tunnels, dungeons, and barracks spanning the 16th through the 20th centuries. Don't forget your camera. Few things are more photo-worthy than Puerto Rico's Spanish colonial architecture.

Visiting the two major forts is a must. Castillo San Felipe Del Morro, or simply "El Morro," draws the most visitors. The massive fortress includes six levels of fortifications. On the nearby grounds, locals fly kites and walk their pooches. While less flashy than El Morro, Castillo San Cristobal is the largest New World fortress. Visit with a tour guide to best absorb the fort's rich history.

Fortin San Juan de la Cruz, or "El Canuelo," is a little fortress on the Isla de Cabras. Since you'd have to drive all the way to Toa Baja to visit it, you might just want to snap some photos from El Morro. Before your day ends, take in the historic city walls that hug the shoreline. See them from Paseo del Morro National Recreation Trail and Paseo de la Princesa. Both walkways also offer views of the Atlantic and San Juan Bay.

Bust out your tank top and shorts as the weather here hovers in the 80s and 90s (Fahrenheit) year-round. However, you may want to avoid hurricane season from June to November. We recommend catching the short dry season in April to boost your chances of sunny weather. Whenever you visit, these historic forts are sure to capture your imagination.
