The property has been in the Monge family since the late 1940's bought by Jose Monge Marquez. The campsite is located in a private property in the outskirts of El Yunque Rainforest in the town of Luquillo. The campsite areas and facilities are about 8 out of 43 acres of all the private property of rainforest, flowers, palm trees, and various fruit trees.
The Sabana River, one of many that originate from El Yunque National Rainforest, the river goes through the property. All the campsites are close by the river with each having their own access and individual fire pits.
The local attractions are:
-El Yunque National Rainforest 15 minute drive up the mountain.
-Las Paylas rockslides (2 minute drive & 8 minutes walking).

At that time as certified HG instructors we thought ok lets try..came down here with our backpacks, a few hang gliders, my dog Shadow and figured we would see how it worked out. Renting places to stay for a few years and including rooms for visiting students we had this opportunity to get and fix up this old house.
It was a continuation of my dream to have a back pack travelers ,adventure travelers, artists, LBGTQ friendly, off the beaten path type of place to stay.

You will have access to the entire property. The grandpa's house and grocery store (where the traditional bathroom with shower, refrigerator, and microwave are located).
This is a rural and country property, surrounded by nature and creeks, with direct access to Cidra Lake. Drive carefully, but all vehicles can get access without problems. Vehicles like a Toyota Camry, an SUV, or a 4x4.
Other things to note
Use only Google Maps to drive to the property; you can get lost if you use other apps like Apple Maps. Remember this is a rural area with just a few traffic lights; we highly recommend arriving early the 1st time to get familiarized with the area.Wi-Fi: There is no Wi-Fi signal in Grandpa's house, but if you need to use it, you can access the Wi-Fi service close to the main house.You will be in the middle of 5 acres of land, in total contact with nature and in an emblematic property from the 50's. In simple words: there are no screens on the windows, and you sleep with a mosquito net. Insects are a vital part of the flora and fauna, and you can see a wide variety of them in the surroundings, from lizards to fireflies. In the same way, and despite the fact that we have an exterminator visit every 2 weeks, sometimes they can be inside the grandfather's house. A real, genuine, and magical experience.For those not familiar with the local driving conditions, it's advisable to approach the journey with a sense of adventure and patience. The roads, while providing an authentic experience of the country's topography, may require a bit of adaptability from drivers more accustomed to city driving.Compact vehicles are more than capable of reaching our hidden oasis. The key is to drive safely, taking your time to navigate any twists, bumpy roads, and turns with care. I really enjoyed camping here. There is plenty of space to put the tents on. There is one toilet ( non flushing-compost), and 3 showers with WARM water, which include soap and shampoo and conditioner!, there is a hand washing station as well. there is also a gas grill, several areas for sitting and eating with grills, and a kitchen area with washing station as well. you can have as modern or rugged experience as you like, there is also an rv and also an airbnb and hostel like building. he teaches courses ( farm - related) and also gives a tour of the farm. the owner is very amiable and ensures as possible that everything is safe. of course, the view is spectacular. and there is a river walking distance. you can visit this place with a romantic partner, friends, family or even alone!

We loved our stay with Keishya and Bob! They share their beautiful house in a beautiful location with a personal welcome, then privacy and freedom. Within walking distance is a nature reserve, and several restaurants as well as a beach. My partner and I also took some time to relax by their pool and love on their dog! We would both love to come back some day.

The host couldn't have been nicer and accommodating. The campground is lovely and except for the distant chickens was very quite. I would recommend everyone should camp here if they are in the area. Only draw back was traffic if you go near San Jose.

7 nights at Barefoot Travelers Rooms Guesthouse
Keishya's guest house is so lovely! We stayed there for a week and it was clean, very comfortable and so relaxing. Keishya is very communicative and mindful of your needs during the stay. She provides towels, soap, and other basic needs. The town where the guest house is, Humacao, is mostly a local spot with many seafood and other types of restaurants very close. A couple places are within walking distance even. The guesthouse is located in a gated community so the beach is private and very nice. Palm trees offer spots of shade during the day. We brought our travel hammock which I would highly recommend. While we were there, there was a wind advisory so the beach was fairly choppy for our baby but still very swimmable for us! There are three rooms that are shared by a common kitchen. The bigger room offers a private bathroom and the two other rooms share a bathroom. We stayed in the bigger room with our 17 month old. There was enough space to put a pack n' play crib in the big room but not the smaller two rooms unless you moved the beds and furniture around perhaps. The kitchen is great and has all the basics you need. The nature preserve is walkable from the property and provides a lovely place for bird watching and nature strolling. There is a great overlook spot and a pretty lagoon. We loved it here and would highly recommend!

Camp Arabuko-Rancho Pavilion is beautiful and Zach and Mariah are the most gracious of hosts. It's a real camping experience in the beautiful lush rainforest!!! Swimming holes, caves and springs abound. They are actively restoring the landscape with native plantings and have many rescue animals including a very friendly cat named Indy Cat who came to hang out with us in the rancho at night. Zach and Mariah were so generous with their time and showed us around the property and farm. Carrie and I had a wonderful time!!! Mariah and Zach are beautiful people, and have put together a masterpiece the blends real camping with a touch of the right amount of accomodations.
Waking up to the river flowing and the birds chirping. The animals on the grounds, the bonfires and being around awesome people made me forget all about the world. The trails, river walking, swimming holes, hiking, and trails was awesome to explore.
Just a little drive and we can visit just about anywhere we wanted to go. The perfect all around balance to everything we needed to recharge the batteries.
We love this place and will absolutely be returning sooner rather than later.

Overview
About
Step into the past at this World Heritage Site in the heart of Old San Juan. Walls and fortresses built 400 years ago draw history lovers to this Caribbean treasure. Put on your walking shoes, and take a full day to explore the beautifully preserved fortresses.
The site's structures offer a glimpse of the centuries-long fight over the sought-after island. Here, you can explore tunnels, dungeons, and barracks spanning the 16th through the 20th centuries. Don't forget your camera. Few things are more photo-worthy than Puerto Rico's Spanish colonial architecture.
Visiting the two major forts is a must. Castillo San Felipe Del Morro, or simply "El Morro," draws the most visitors. The massive fortress includes six levels of fortifications. On the nearby grounds, locals fly kites and walk their pooches. While less flashy than El Morro, Castillo San Cristobal is the largest New World fortress. Visit with a tour guide to best absorb the fort's rich history.
Fortin San Juan de la Cruz, or "El Canuelo," is a little fortress on the Isla de Cabras. Since you'd have to drive all the way to Toa Baja to visit it, you might just want to snap some photos from El Morro. Before your day ends, take in the historic city walls that hug the shoreline. See them from Paseo del Morro National Recreation Trail and Paseo de la Princesa. Both walkways also offer views of the Atlantic and San Juan Bay.
Bust out your tank top and shorts as the weather here hovers in the 80s and 90s (Fahrenheit) year-round. However, you may want to avoid hurricane season from June to November. We recommend catching the short dry season in April to boost your chances of sunny weather. Whenever you visit, these historic forts are sure to capture your imagination.

Lo mas destacado el morro, la plaza , parque de palomas, el paseo de la princesa, los artesanos,.la iglesia y los food trucks no se pueden quedar. Un pueblo hermoso y bien visitado por turistas.
