The property has been in the Monge family since the late 1940's bought by Jose Monge Marquez. The campsite is located in a private property in the outskirts of El Yunque Rainforest in the town of Luquillo. The campsite areas and facilities are about 8 out of 43 acres of all the private property of rainforest, flowers, palm trees, and various fruit trees.
The Sabana River, one of many that originate from El Yunque National Rainforest, the river goes through the property. All the campsites are close by the river with each having their own access and individual fire pits.
The local attractions are:
-El Yunque National Rainforest 15 minute drive up the mountain.
-Las Paylas rockslides (2 minute drive & 8 minutes walking).
-The Luquillo beaches which are La Pared, Playa Azul, Barneario de Luquillo. Los Kioskos de Luquillo, ect. (10 minutes drive).

This property was once a religious shrine. It was purchased by an American Rock Star as a pet sanctuary. Once we bought this place we though it was appropriate to call it, “The Sanctuary.” We use a portion of the income at this property to help our nieces/nephew's with their schooling and college.

This is the second year we return for a group camping! This place is hard to beat! Nature is wonderful, sites are perfect and it’s close to so many fun things! The host is great! We had a group of more than 20 and everyone left in love! We will be back for sure!

I recently moved to Puerto Rico from Maryland where I was an avid camper for years. I was excited to find Gerardo's camp grounds! My first camping trip in Puerto was AMAZING!
In my excitement I set up at wrong site and had to relocate to another site. I went from one beautiful site to a more beautiful site!
The facility was well maintained and clean. Gerardo was prompt and helpful. I cant wait until my next visit.

Absolutely beautiful view from the campsite. The kitchen area was extremely useful. Great communication with the host. Highly recommend!!
Note for families with kids: as mentioned in the description, the hike down to the river is VERY difficult. We took our kids (ages 4, 5, 7, 8) down the trail, but we wouldn’t do it again. That said, I DEFINITELY want to come back to the glamping site. The view is unparalleled and there are tons of things to do around there.

Dormir con el sonido del río fue simplemente mágico — una de esas noches que te desconectan por completo y te hacen sentir en plena armonía con la naturaleza. El lugar está precioso, bien cuidado y con áreas limpias. Además, cuentan con baño, lo cual hace la estadía mucho más cómoda. Sin duda, un spot perfecto para relajarse, disfrutar y querer volver.

The views are absolutely amazing, and we truly loved the hike down to the river, that was definitely the highlight of our stay. The location is beautiful and feels very close to nature, you would see a lot of birds.
That said, it’s important to come prepared for a true camping-style experience. Privacy is limited: you can see guests from the other tent and hear them from time to time. The bathrooms for each tent are located in the same area, just facing opposite directions, so if you’re very private or more introverted, this is something to keep in mind.
We also experienced issues with the water system. The hot water in the showers wasn’t working properly, and a water tube was broken. We were told it would be fixed during our stay, but it wasn’t. Because of this, we had to manually turn a valve on and off each time we needed to use the toilet. We were offered the option to use the campsite bathroom, about a 10-minute walk away, but the showers there were either cold or extremely hot, making them difficult to enjoy.
Other than these issues, we really loved the place, the natural surroundings, and the hike. With improvements to the water system and clearer expectations around privacy, this could be an incredible stay.

An exceptional experience! This camp site is stocked with everything you need! The grounds manager is very thoughtful and super responsive. The view is absolutely GORGEOUS! Keep in mind if you are renting a vehicle it is better to have four wheel drive. The mountain roads are difficult to traverse in two wheel drive!

Awesome campsite, relatively secluded, the creek and coqui and bug sounds can get loud at night but it was great. Very fun to explore flora and fauna in the area. Definitely check out the natural water slides that are about 15 min walk from the campsite. Be aware that it will definitely rain at least a few times during your stay. We tried to hang some towels to dry but that was pointless. Communication with the host and the check in were fast and easily available. Highly recommend!

Amplio espacio, cerca del río, pero a una altura segura. Rodeado de árboles y vegetación. Un pedazo de paraíso en la tierra. Cuenta con un área de servicios sanitarios, duchas con agua caliente. No hay electricidad, ni agua potable en el área de acampar, y mucho menos señal de Wifi. Es desconectarse del mundo y conectarse con la naturaleza.

My wife and I camp quite a bit, and this was probably our favorite spot. We may have gotten lucky with it being off season, but the campsite was very secluded. We camped out of our van and were able to back up right to the river and listen to the babbling water all night.
Only 8 minutes from town. The hikes in Yunque national forest are incredible.

They went out of their way to make sure we had a safe place to park our 22ft camper van, even letting us in after regular hours, after all our other overnight camping options had fallen through. Great communication and a nice spot in the jungle next to running water and plenty of coquis to sing us to sleep. Will definitely consider coming back for more than just an overnight stay next time!
