Welcome to Sawdust FarmCamp! Located in Geneva, Ohio. We have four different sites to choose from: one tent site, two glamping tent sites, and one cabin. NEW 2025! The Nature Mindfulness Hike, where we find a deeper connection to nature, is now included with your stay. It is held every Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Need some additional relaxation? Book a Reiki Healing at the Jug House next to the pond for an extra fee. Reiki is a Japanese stress reduction and relaxation technique that promotes healing. Contact your host for availability before booking. We also have the option to book all our sites for a 15-person retreat, with special extras only available for that booking, including a pavilion teepee tent. Portable toilets are available, pets are welcome, and campfires are permitted. Potable water and hot water showers are only available at our cabin, and our glamping sites only have solar camp showers (not the tent site New hot showers are being planned for the 2024 season. Naturalist Isabelle H. Klein wrote a collection of letters from her home of Sawdust (named form the sawdust left by the loggers of the early 60’s) for the Cleveland Museum of Natural History’s Explorer Magazine from the winter of 1969 to the summer of 1976. They then were published as the book “Letters From Sawdust” by the Press of Case Western Reserve University for the Museum. It is a lyrical voyage through the seasons at the Sawdust Tract in Northeast Ohio. She details encounters with the wildlife of the area as well as the changing seasons and plant life. Reminiscent of Thoreau's writings about Walden. In 1978 an additional house was moved onto the property from Sidley's gravel pit and joined with the existing Klein farmhouse. We decided to preserve almost 400 acres of the property with the help of the Western Reserve Land Conservatory for the Cleveland Museum Of Natural History, Natural Areas. Forest is home to the red-sided dace, and 10 rare species of birds, including cerulean warblers. The original small family farm and surrounding woods we have retained are being restored and updated. We are proud to call Sawdust home and would love to share it with you.

Heartland Homestead is the perfect spot for you to enjoy away from home and in nature. With dreamy vibes and open skies, you can relax in our tent camping spots around Mother Oak or reserve a glamping cabin for a true unplugged experience - but make it comfy cozy. Depending on the time of year + season, you may see our goats, cows, pigs, chickens, or more! We may have pick-your-own tomatoes, pumpkins, + flowers as well Glamping Cabins We have two glamping cabins that include beds and lanterns so you get the feel of sleeping in nature but comfortably. Each cabin has a picnic table, fire pit, and charcoal grill. One cabin has a queen-size bed and the second has a full-size bed and a trundle bed with 2 twin-size mattresses. The cabins do not have electric or water. A porta-potty is located near the barn (a 5 minute walk) and a lug-able loo or portapotty will be available closer to the cabins depending on when you stay. We are happy to help get your gear back to the cabins with the farm cart and then it is an 8-minute walk along a hay pasture to the parking area. Tent Camping Our tent camping spots are located under Mother Oak, a 100-year-old oak tree in the middle of our farm. With ample shade, a fire pit, and nearby portapotty, you can relax under the stars into the night. Hiking trails weave through the back of the property and you are welcome to explore those as well. Because we are a working homestead and farm, a few things are true: -Sometimes there’s mud. We suggest boots for walking around the property and in the woods. -Our farm animals are great - and may also bite. Please do not pet or chase them. We are happy to arrange opportunities to interact with the animals. Just ask! -Not always, but at times, our neighbors will start farming early in the morning and you can hear their machinery. All of our sites have privacy but are not truly remote. We want you to enjoy yourselves but please be mindful that our house is on the property as well as our neighbors. Music needs to be turned down to a low level by 11 PM. We can accommodate pop-up campers, camper vans, etc near Mother Oak as well. Please message with any questions before reserving. Additional fees would apply. We can also accommodate larger tent camping groups depending on the day. Additional fees would apply. The homestead is located near 58 so you can hear cars during the day and night. The cabins are about a ½ mile from the road so the noise is greatly reduced. Conveniently located 1 mile from Oberlin College, 6 minutes from the turnpike (I-80), and 35 minutes from Cleveland, Heartland Homestead is like stepping away from the hustle of everyday life and into nature. Words can’t explain how perfect Cherry Valley Chill was for our family! Troy let us know everything we needed to know before arriving, and was great with communication during our stay. His wife Danelle welcomed us when we arrived, and she was so kind. We had a fire started and special touches throughout that made our trip better than we could have imagined. There was plenty of space in the cabin area for two people and two dogs, and easily could fit more too. There is a platform that fit our queen size air mattress perfectly, as well as two bunks that can be used for additional sleeping space or storage. It was chilly and rainy for our first two days but with the wood fired stove we were warm, happy and dry. The provided wood was the perfect amount for our 3 night stay, and Troy reached out to ask if additional wood was needed so it’s nice to know the option is there! The counter space is great, and we also brought our camp kitchen that fit with plenty of room to spare by the door so we could vent while cooking. There is a cooler built into the countertop, as well as a black stone outside too, we didn’t use these as we brought our own as part of our usual set up. There also is a nicely sized hammock that we didn’t get a chance to break out, but it looks so comfy! They have solar hooked up to lighting inside and outside of the cabin as well as the toilet area and the short walk there. The toilet is simple but clean and spacious. You can tell this place was built with love.

We absolutely loved our stay, it was the perfect weekend away from the city. The cabin was more spacious than I expected and very clean. The bed was surprisingly comfortable and cozy. Our host, Melissa was amazing! She greeted us upon arrival and gave us a tour of the area and offered recommendations of things to do. She even stopped by the next day to make sure we had everything we needed.

Weekend Trip to Hemlock & Hobbit Forest

We had a great time in Melissa's cabin. She was able to switch our reservation to another building as the one I booked had storm damage. We enjoyed the fire pit and string lights she has set up on a crisp evening along with a visit from one of her cats. Loved the water gallon, kettle, mugs, tea, and chocolates, umbrella in the cabin along with queen bed and futon. In the morning, we went to see her chickens, pigs, and peacocks on the property. There is another tiny cabin being built next door that would be nice for group stays once it is available. We enjoyed seeing all the unique homes nearby while heading over to CVNP for hikes at Kendall Lake, Salt Run, Brandywine Falls & Gorge. Also nearby tons of restaurants and shops. We enjoyed Seoul Garden. Perfect for a little getaway. Melissa was very kind and responsive. We appreciated the video she sent to show what to expect before we headed there.

We loved staying at Troy's shelter (almost a cabin)! At a one hour drive from Cleveland, the shelter was well furnished with chairs, firewood, a blackstone (for rent), and sleeping platforms which made for an easy to set up weekend retreat. Troy and his family were so sweet and showed us their chickens, turkeys, and goats! We joked we need a monthly membership for a regular retreat! 10/10 recommend!

The cabinette was a perfect location for exploring Lake Erie in Ohio and PA. It was roomy, and we appreciated the late checkout. Unfortunately we stayed on a cold May weekend and discovered at 8pm on our first night that there was no propane for the heater. Dan did refund us $50, which was appreciated. Also none of the several battery operated lanterns worked, luckily we had brought our own. He mentioned a propane cookstove, but it must have been in one of the lofts. The place was clean, except for some nasty brown liquid in the freezer drip tray. The grass was wayyy long and needed weedwhacked along the driveway and around the cabin.. Despite the drawbacks, the price was reasonable, and we would stay again

I loved everything about this stay. The cabin was very roomy with the addition of sliding barn doors which were my favorite part besides the wood burning stove. The property has a nicely maintained yard that my dog really enjoyed playing in. There were tractors working in the fields on the left and right of the property so at times it could be a bit noisy. The bathroom was very spacious and clean as well. There are lights inside and outside of the barn powered by solar so it was nice not to have to use a flashlight or lantern after dark. Friendly host as well, stopped by when I arrived to show me around and she ensured I was taken care of during my stay. Would highly recommend!

I would highly recommend Troy’s cabin for an extremely pleasant “get away from it all” great camping experience!!! The cabin is spacious, very very clean, cozy and it has such a special ambiance with the soft lighting and the wood burning fireplace! We brought our own portable mattresses which fit perfect on the beds and even though it rained almost the whole day we were able to stay nice and dry and warm and with the sliding doors open we could see all of the beautiful countryside around us. Also loved how we were welcomed by Troy who had even started our first fire for us! It was nice to have the gas grill right outside and we made some great meals and enjoyed them sitting at the picnic table and the great wooden countertop with the high bar stools. We had lots of privacy all around us and yet it was nice being close to Andover for a quick grocery run or a bite to eat in town. Looking forward to our next stay there! Definitely recommend Cherryhill Chill!!! Thank you Troy for your hospitality!

A perfect cozy spot for those spending time in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. It was 10-15 minutes away from the trailheads we wanted to visit and from downtown Penisula. The bed was comfortable, and the whole cabin was welcoming and beautiful.

Had a amazing getaway for a few days! Cabin is awesome and it was great to unplug and leave worries at home. Hike directly downhill from the cabin led to a small waterfall and the Grand River. Stars at night framed by the trees were gorgeous. Highly recommended and look forward to returning!

I didn't stay in the cedar cabin, it was too cold and the roof was leaking when I scheduled so the wonderful host graciously offered me her much cozier "hobbit" house, which was essentially the same size but warmer. I have to say it was one if the coolest eco friendly houses I've ever stayed in! Really thoughtful attention to details such as the assymetric construction based on the layout of the slope and hillside. An inspiring example of how human structures can interact organically with, and even be enhanced by the natural world. All of this is only to say the host is a really welcoming, and vibrant individual and such a wonderful property is surely an extension of their warm artistry.

I can't say enough about Troy, his family, and this modded style cabin which I was amazed on the hardwork and craftsmanship. They gave me the 5 star treatment.Your in the country side surrounded by endless acres of farm land and trees. Wood was supplied which is nice and if you need more you can always purchase more from Troy. I plan to come back in much warmer conditions so I can take advantage of those opening outter walls!

I loved staying at Lisa and Patrick’s Hemlock heaven! The cabin is perfectly cozy, with just enough amenities for avid campers. The wood-burning stove kept me and the doggo I brought perfectly warm; compost outhouse is also super neat! The background story and history of the property is really cool too. Highly, highly recommend checking out Bridge St. and the Harpersfield Covered Bridge Metropark! Lisa was an incredible host - answering all of my questions and concerns with the utmost kindness. I can’t wait to go back!

I loved this primitive cabin in the woods. Lisa's instructions and descriptions are well written and accurately describe the location. She responds quickly to messages. If you need further help, she's a message away and is ready to help. The hand rake was my favorite tool to help clear the leaves as I hiked into the ravine. The space is clean and not cramped. The property is close to a covered bridge park on the Grand River. There are many wineries minutes away from the cabin. I highly recommend this location!

Enjoy the lovely setting of this quiet spot in nature conveniently located near Geneva on the Lake and surrounding wineries. Propane heater and gas generator for electricity add more comfortable options for your stay. Outside port-a-potty is private and not shared with anyone else. Please bring your own bedding for use on the futon. Limited water is supplied for your use. There is not pre-cut firewood on the premises, but you are welcome to cut down logs. If you plan on having a fire, there is also firewood for sale within 5 minutes at Geneva Lakeside Storage. Any fuel that is onsite when you arrive, you are welcome to use. Plan to acquire fuel if you anticipate using the electric and heating elements. We have fuel canisters onsite if you'd like to use them to transport fuel from the nearest stores back to the site. We do not have a cleaning crew out between each visit, so please be courteous and leave the site the way you left it.

Hemlock Hideaway and its 18 acres was originally part of a larger 100-acre plot that was surveyed and settled in the late 1700's by Gideon Granger of the Connecticut Land Company. Granger sold it to one Jehoikim Burget in 1815 for the whopping price of $400. The resident house was built in 1816 by Burget and then passed down to family members over the next 5 generations, until we bought it in 2003, marking the first time the house and remaining property were ever officially sold. In the mid 1800's, a grist mill was put up across the river from the cabin, and our creek was the main road in and out of that operation. There is a gravestone belonging to the wife of Jehoikim's son, she being half Native American and therefore couldn't be buried in the local white cemetery. We also own the original hand-written deed from 1815 detailing the sale of the original 100 acres to Jehoikim Burget. Learn more about this land: Our primitive cabin nestled in the woods overlooking the Grand River is a nature-lover's paradise! Come canoe, fish, experience wine country, or unplug and just get away from it all. Please note: There is no running water or electricity at the site, but the cabin is generator-ready and there is an outhouse. The cabin does have a wood burning stove for heat and simple cooking, however there is no running water or electricity. That being said, the building is wired and has plugs and outlets and is generator-ready. You provide your own generator and fuel. We provide bottled water, sheets, pillows, flashlights, a fire ring with cooking grate, charcoal grill (you provide the charcoal), access to firewood, and an outhouse with toilet paper. Our 1/4 mile of Grand River frontage can be accessed right outside the cabin door via a quick hike down the somewhat steep hillside. If hiking isn't preferred, then a quick two-minute drive will take you to the Harpersfield Covered Bridge Metropark - a favorite of local fishermen. Bigger groups with tents are welcome, but will need to bring all supplies beyond what we provide for two guests.
