1 night at Fruitdale Farm

It's a lovely property with all sorts of perks and amenities. Definitely take advantage of the sauna! I had campsite 2 and it was perfect for my hammock setup. This was a great choice to help me avoid driving through Cincinnati on my road trip.

Sugar shack was well placed (next to a small creek with a mini waterfall... Wouldn't be surprised if the water flow is 14 gallons per minute for the waterfall)... There are trails to walk on, which is a positive.

Aimee’s land is incredible. From start the finish, we had one of the best camping experiences I’ve had in a long time. Everything is well marked and thought out. Directions are very clear and I felt very comfortable wandering around the property, given the signage and well marked trails. Having a privy was helpful if you need to use it, wished we would have used the sauna but it was a sauna outside! 😂 I ran into Aimee while walking around and she is so genuinely kind and open. She really has thought of everything - when you’re staying there, you feel like you’re part of something really special. Thank you, Aimee, for your hospitality.

Loved everything about Fruitdale Farm! Great meadows for the dogs to have a run around the pond. Shady woodland paths to hike before a sauna and hot shower. Quiet & remote feeling without being too off the beaten path!

2 nights at The Viking Longhall

Was just looking to get a break from the city, work, and screens to recharge and this place was perfect for that. The property is surrounded by a babbling stream and is well cared for with many little Viking themed buildings and activities. David was incredibly nice and helpful. He recommended Quiver Heart hiking trail which was one of the coolest hikes I’ve ever been on. Also recommended the Rock Shop when I told him I was going to visit Serpent Mound and ended up talking to the owners for well over an hour. I definitely ditto those recommendations I was only there a couple nights but left feeling fully recharged.

2 nights at Cabin and Tent Camping On The River

The tent camping site was all we wanted plus more. It's a bit isolated so it's serene and quiet plus it's right by the Little Miami river. Everything is clean and up to date. It's a first class place for camping. I'm sure we'll return,

1 night at Little Darby Outdoors

I loved this place. It was rainy, so I just parked on the gravel drive instead of venturing out into the acres of grassy countryside, but I had the whole place to myself and the views were wonderful. Even though you can't hook up the RV, you have access to fresh water, hot showers, clean toilet, microwave, and some basic kitchen supplies, indoor seating/game area, and a cute kitty to cuddle. Jay was friendly and easy to work with and the location is convenient, GPS works fine with Jay's added directions for getting in the right driveway. I will definitely recommend this to by RVing friends.

Jay was an amazing host and greeted as we arrived, even though we arrived after 10PM! The property was extremely clean and well maintained. He also offers and amazing building for guests with a shower, toilet and small kitchen area with a microwave, ice maker, and coffee maker. The building also has a basement with all kinds of games like ski ball, pinball, foosball, and a Pac-Man arcade table. Really an amazing property for the price! We'll definitely be back.

Aimee’s place is spectacular! My campsite (rustic) was perfect for my needs, although there are other sites with more amenities. The privy was very nice, with specific instructions. I especially liked the pond and the ability to take a quick swim (water was cool for late May). Highly recommend and would love to return.

Weekend Trip to Geo-dome Glamping

So many wonderful things at the Geo dome! Susan’s land is awesome with all the farm animals, easy to commute through the camp! The Geo dome was super clean and fully stocked with everything that was advertised! Her husband was so awesome with our son explaining the farm and what they do! Easy couple to talk to as well! Fun park three minutes down the road also that Jeff recommended. We took our cornhole set and a football to toss in the open field net to camp! It was just a fun and educational experience all around! I highly recommend staying here!!! We will definitely be back!

Amelia is super kind and the site is located on the bike path with an easy ride to a brewery in one direction and Chillicothe (with tons of dining options) in the other.

Weekend Trip to The Shack

Great place! We stayed at the little tree house. It was a perfect spot. Tucked into the edge of the woods and right next to the fire pit with picknick table and the Loo that were nestled in a clearing in the woods. The edge of the pond is visible from the front windows. We had the place all to ourselves. We fished the catch and release pond that had HUGE carp, and had dinner on the cute dock. We took our kayaks down to Cowan Lake, of which there is access to, about a mile down the road from the property. Owners were friendly. Offered us another night if we wanted, but even though their house is on the property (around the corner and barely visible) they gave us our space and we felt that our privacy was respected. There was a heating terracotta pot with candles which was so exciting! It got a little chilly but that heated us right up. The one burner stove is butane, not propane like stated, but B brought our little camp stove to make coffee anyways so we were all set. Weekend Trip to Fruitdale Farm

Even with the best of lodging, I feel like there's always that one thing that could've made it better- "it was a wonderful cabin EXCEPT FOR..." But honestly, our time at Fruitdale Farms was perfect across the board. The space is gorgeous with so many lovely little things to see (bee hives, inoculated mushrooms logs, trails, a nice little pond with koi). And the Little Fern Cabin was so very perfect and cute. We both thought the bed was amazingly comfortable and were charmed by all the care put into the decor. The gazebo kitchen was one of the best kitchen spaces we've used - so well-stocked with everything you could possibly need in the way of spices, utensils, cookware, etc - any time we thought of something we'd forgotten to bring, it was already there. We also loved that the kitchen was its own space in a revamped aviary. There was easy access to firewood and some tomato and berry plants for sale. We loved our time at the sauna. The printouts they leave for guests detailing places nearby to visit were so helpful - we wouldn't have known about the floating bridge/beaver dam trail if not for that (since it's not officially open and they're still working on the adjacent trail), and it was phenomenal. We also enjoyed the visits of the charming farm-cat Tangie who spent time with us in the mornings and evenings and was the sweetest little love-bug. Thank you again, Aimee, for all the love and care you put into your place. We very much look forward to coming again.

Our stay at Orchard View Farm was perfect! It was fun waking up every morning to the alpaca checking us out from afar. The sunsets were amazing. It was quiet and peaceful, a beautiful peace of land. We would definitely go back for another stay!

Come stay at our little sustainable farmstead amid the beautiful rolling hills of southern Ohio! Our peaceful 20 acres has a good mix of woods, wild meadows and maintained cleared areas as well as a small pond, all of which can be explored via our nature trail. Enjoy the sounds of nature and an incredible night sky. Farm fresh eggs and fresh produce are available for purchase during the growing season and firewood is available all year round. There is also a wonderful sauna on the property that can be reserved. Great hiking, kayaking, biking, birding, fishing, swimming, and disc-golfing opportunities just a few miles away at Paint Creek State Park and the Highland Nature Sanctuary. Amish country is also just 15 minutes away with a great bakery, markets and greenhouses. This area is home to an impressive network of ancient earthworks including the world famous Serpent Mound. Our accommodations range from primitive tent-camping to "glamping" in one of our tiny off-grid cabins. The sites are spaced out for privacy and each site offers a private picnic table and fire pit. There are two shared privies/outhouses which have basic composting toilets. A grassy parking area is provided near the road, however, ALL SITES ARE WALK-IN ONLY. POINTS OF INTEREST in the area: The HIGHLANDS NATURE SANCTUARY (7 miles away), previously called "7 Caves" is highly recommended for some beautiful hiking. There is a small museum (The Appalachian Forest Museum) at the main trailhead by the parking area... the folks there can direct you to a couple of other great trails nearby if you're interested in further hiking. NOTE: Most of the trails within the sanctuary are not open to dogs, however, there are a couple of dog-friendly trails (inquire at the museum). Museum is closed for the winter (Nov-March). **Recommended trails: Valley of the Ancients (1/2mile, start at museum) and the Barrett's Rim Trail (2.5 mile loop) and the Kamelands Trail, which are both accessible during the pandemic. AMISH BAKERY (Country Crust Bakery) & MARKET (JRs General Store)* on 41 South in Bainbridge (15-20min away): The bakery is a great lunch stop for a fresh, soft Pretzel Bun sandwich (delicious) and to load up on fresh baked goods (the apple fritter is my fave!). The market, which is almost right across from the bakery, is also worth checking out... delicious deli sandwiches and great deals on spices, cheeses, pickles, jams, bulk foods, produce, etc. Watch out for horse & buggy traffic... and bicycles! *The Amish accept cash or check only and are closed on Sunday. In the teeny town of BAINBRIDGE (10-15min away): There are some nice antique/primitive shops around; in particular, Ancient Valley Mercantile has a nice selection of antiques as well as local art, gifts, gourmet coffees, local honey, etc. There's a wonderful little cafe (634 Coffee + Cafe, inside the historic Paxton Theater) that offers coffee drinks, pastries, soups and sandwiches. Stop into Pap's Hilltop Honey and Distillery, where you can purchase and sample a variety of moonshine flavors and cocktails. The Paxton Restaurant has good home cooked meals and a variety of pies and cheesecakes for dessert. Or grab an ice cream at the Dairy Queen before strolling the primitive shops. PAINT CREEK LAKE STATE PARK: (2 miles away) There are dog-friendly hiking trails (the harmony trail and little pond trail are personal favorites), mountain bike trails, a 21-hole disc golf course, boat ramp (if you have kayaks, you can paddle around on the lake... this spot is excellent at sunset), and a camp store that has ice and hand-dipped ice cream. There is also a BEACH, which is good for picnicking and swimming, located at the southern entrance, off of SR 50. GREENFIELD: This town is closer (5 miles) and larger than Bainbridge and good for getting supplies. There are some restaurants, bars and supermarkets (Community Markets, at the further end of town, is recommended over the Save-a-Lot), El Canon (Mexican) would be my restaurant of choice if you decide to eat out. Catch 22 Sports Bar has good burgers and there are plenty of pizza options for dine in or take-out. COVERED BRIDGE: There is a sweet little covered bridge that you can still drive across in the tiny town of South Salem, just a 5 minute drive away. To get there from here, take 41 North and then take a right onto Lower Twin Rd and drive a few miles and you will come to the bridge. SERPENT MOUND (about 30 miles away, Peebles, OH) is an internationally known National Historic Landmark built by the ancient American Indian cultures of Ohio. It is an effigy mound representing a snake with a curled tail. Nearby are three burial mounds—two created by the Adena culture (800 B.C.–A.D. 100), and one by the Fort Ancient culture (A.D. 1000–1650). A must see! CHILLICOTHE (Ohio's first capital): (30 minutes away) The historic downtown boasts charming architecture and is perfect for exploring on foot. Several local shops, restaurants, coffee shops, breweries and bars. A lovely city park with a small lake is host to a year-round population of ducks, geese and swans. There is also a disc golf course and skate park in the city park. There is frequent live music, gourmet cocktails and a wide variety of craft beer at Steiner's Speakeasy (an Americana-style bourbon bar of America). GREAT SEAL STATE PARK (about 35 miles away in Chillicothe): If you are into mountain biking, you will find some of the best trails in the state here (start at the Lick Run parking area). There is also a great disc golf course here along with a picnic shelter and a playground for the kids. FORT HILL EARTHWORKS & NATURE PRESERVE: (30 minutes away) This preserve encompasses 1300 acres of mature woodlands and 11 miles of some of the best hiking trails in the state. Part of the Old Growth Forest Network, there are remnants of the temperate deciduous forests that once covered all of the eastern United States. For archaeology enthusiasts, there is a stone and earthen wall hilltop enclosure, as well as a smaller circular earthwork (both of which can be difficult to discern).

Learn more about this land: Come relax atop the Appalachian foothills of southern Ohio. Enveloped in the heart of Tranquility Wilderness Area, our 11 acres has a mix of native pawpaw, peach, pear, and persimmon trees, deciduous forest, cedar woods, wild meadows, a small swimming pond, and a large, accessible field for ample flat for tents and room to play. Trails through the woods are being worked on, and facilities expanded as the seasons pass. Mellow nature’s soundtrack of birds, crickets, and frogs and enjoy an incredibly clear view of the night sky. Hiking, kayaking, biking, birding, fishing, hunting, swimming, and more are available at several state parks and historical sites like within 10-30 minutes of the farm. Amish country is likewise near at hand with several bakeries, markets, furniture shops, and greenhouses. Our primitive sites are spaced for privacy, with a gravel parking area near the cottage and additional field parking is available near the road on the opposite site of the main house. While most sites are walk-in only, the upper field sites may be able to be parked near and the Lower Meadow, Boneyard, and Oak Grove may be able to be driven to, as weather and site conditions permit.

The Viking Longhall

The Viking longhall has been 9 years in the making by a group of semi serious Viking enthusiasts: the result is a 60 foot long building that has 18, 8,x4' sleeping berths. Pack your essentials and escape to the Little Miami River Valley's best kept secret. Our off-grid cabin and tent campsite is situated on 14 acres along the National and Scenic Little Miami River. The cabin is included in the site rental, offering the flexibility to bring your own mattress/bedding or have it provided as an add-on. Once here, you'll park near the farmhouse and take a 4 minute hike over the creek, through the meadow, and into the woods. *Driving to the site is an option if you have 4WD and the ground is not too wet. Exceptions for 2WD can be made if the weather forecast and ground conditions permit. As you approach the cabin and campsite, the trail opens up to an acre of green space shaded by large Sycamore, Walnut, and other native trees. Take a dip in the river, enjoy people watching as canoeist pass, or take part with a canoe or kayak rental from a nearby business (within 3 miles). The Little Miami Trail is also less than a mile down the road so bring your bike! The composting outhouse is serviced between each stay, meaning it's emptied, sanitized, and like new for each new guest. *Depending on your group size, the host may need to service/empty the outhouse once daily. There are two established campfire locations and a picnic table is provided. *This is a family residence. The hosts live onsite and although you will not see them from your site, you will likely hear kids/adults playing outside and possibly weekend tasks such as mowing/weed eating/etc. Other "noise pollution" may come from canoeists passing by or the gun/ATV riding club which is a 1/4 mile down the river. The nearest town of S. Charleston is 3 miles down the road and has a good grocery store, gas station, & dollar stores. General Information The accommodations are primitive, but adequate and spaced apart to provide individual privacy. Each platform is 9'x11' and will allow for most 2 to 4 person, self supporting tents to be pitched with adequate space. Larger tents or tents that need to be staked out will probably not fit or work on the platforms. The land supports insets of all sorts; fireflies, dragonflies and butterflies. It also has horseflies and ticks. The land also supports some endangered and threatened species of plants - so if you see something you haven't seen before, take a picture and leave the plant in the soil. If it rains hard, it will get muddy. Be prepared for that with extra changes of clothes. There is an outdoor rinse shower (in the final phases of construction) to wash off if you get TOO muddy. There is a shared space pavilion that can be used for discussions and getting out of the rain. It is not to be used for a cooking kitchen or to have chimineas under. Be respectful of others who may be using this space. All locations are WALK IN. You will need to carry your tent and provisions to the location. There are no roads that go directly to the camping platforms. Do not try to drive on the land. Trust our experience with it... you will get stuck. Pulling you out will be costly and will damage the land (and most likely your vehicle as well). Camping Locations Platform 1 and Platform 2 are close together and work well for a slightly larger group. Platform 3 is closest to the top of the campground and Platform 4 is furthest inside the campground. Platform 5 is closest to a small pond that is currently under restoration. It is also situated for the best firefly viewing in June and early July. Hammocks are permitted to be hung from trees, provided they have non-scarring strapping systems. Hammocks cannot be hung from pavilion or from camping platforms. Surrounding Areas The land is located in rural Ross County. It is mostly quiet. I have neighbors, they have animals, so you are likely to hear dogs barking, roosters crowing, donkeys braying and the occasional gunshot. These usually happen in the morning and in the evening. These are normal for this area. Bainbridge is right down the hill and has multiple gas stations, a hardware store and a small grocery store for most of your needs. Bainbridge is the home of the "Soldiers of the Downhill" International Downhill Skateboarding event and the "Fall Festival of Leaves". It also has the first Dental School in the United States and the Paxton Theater. It is a rustic site with a small cabin and areas to pitch tents. The area where the cabin sits is all pines. Secluded area yet close to town. Easy access from State Route 33. Walk in or drive in depending on your vehicle you drive. The cabin consist of a fold out bed, table and heater. Propane is provided as is a rustic portable ice chest inside the cabin. For those that desire to shoot small handguns we do have a pistol range on the property. In addition we have elevated totally enclosed stands for wildlife observation and photo opportunities. Our site was rated as Tree Farmer of the year (2021). Lots of wildlife and again very private oasis in the midst of a growing rural community. In addition GreyOaks has tent camping spots as well!
