Founded by Elmer and Velora Bethke, Hillcrest Acres started with just 14 sites and has expanded to accommodate 66 sites over the years. The park remained in the Bethke family until 1998, after which the Klaudt family took over until 2007. From 2007 to 2017, Hillcrest Acres Inc. managed the park, and in late 2017, BSBW LLC became the new owners. Since the 2018 season, they have focused on enhancing the customer experience, ensuring that every guest feels welcome and comfortable.
In 2019, significant improvements were made, including the acquisition and cleanup of the adjacent property to the west, new signage, upgraded Wi-Fi, and various site enhancements. The 2020 season saw the repositioning of some sites along with major electrical upgrades, allowing for larger and more functional camping spots.
