Weekend Trip to Camp Karuga

We had such a wonderful time! Easy to find, perfect spot right beside the creek. Plenty of room. And privacy with easy access to the super clean bath house. Extremely responsive hosts! Despite the rain off and on, this was one of our best experiences yet. Loved the fire pit too!

We love going to this campsite! Great private site and we enjoy our multiple daily walks to see the bison. Hosts are very accommodating and worked with us to schedule to help Fred the bison which my kids loved. We've been twice now and will definitely come back!

3 nights at Drifter Ridge

Keith & his wife were great! We used this site while visiting Grayson Highands State Park since their campground was closed. We took them up on the firewood, eggs, lamb, and trash removal. Keith came to our rescue with a ladder and tools when our awning decided to get stuck. The boys really enjoyed fishing in the pond and the basketball hoop. We all enjoyed the fire and playing uno in the gazebo. We do recommend fighting the urge to feel like you need to back in. There’s plenty of room to unhook and back a truck around. They were so sweet and gave us a handwritten card thanking us for staying with them along with two new fishing lures for the boys.

5 nights at OnTop.camp - NW NC Ashe Co

This campsite was our absolute favorite. We visited in late spring, it offered gorgeous views and absolute privacy! It’s totally primitive, so I’d recommend camping experience before setting up here. The campfire wood bundles Jon offers are a healthy amount, definitely enough for an all night fire. West Jefferson and Jefferson are perfect day retreats while you’re posted up out here. We can’t wait to return for each season!

1 night at 3feather Sanctuary

We loved the peaceful escape of 3feather sanctuary. Amazing curvy mountain roads to get there, close enough to nearby towns, great spot to enjoy nature! Love the friendly-ness of the owners, welcoming vibe of the property and all of the nice amenities. The Fireside spot was a little hard to park our truck and camper in, on a steep hill and had to back out, I think I would prefer a different spot at 3feather with the camper next time. Would recommend!

We had such a magical time on Pat and Johnny’s land! We felt welcomed immediately, and their property is like something out of a storybook. Plenty to do not only onsite, but also very close to fun day hikes at Beauty Spot and Rock Creek Falls. Despite a bit of road noise as others have mentioned, the spot site was beautiful and private. We would love to come again one day!

Weekend Trip to Rose Creek Retreat

On of the nicest places we have been, very secluded and private. Love the sound of the stream. It was nice letting our dogs be able to run around with us off the leash. Definitely recommend it and we will definitely be back.

Weekend Trip to Linville Adventure Pasture (LAP)

This site was private yet conveniently located. We were able to access the river, the lake and beautiful trails for hiking. There is a sink with running water that really helped us while we were "boone docking". The host was so great and gave us tips on some awesome hikes and a brewery!

A beautiful property with various campsites spread throughout. We loved the creek, and walking around the property with our pups. In our 31ft Class C with a car tow, there were a few spots on the mountain road that were dicey, but overall we were able to make it to and from the property safely. Would definitely stay again!

Just a beautiful area! We pulled our teardrop into site 4 which had a nice view and good proximity to the restrooms. Pat and John were lovely. We enjoyed talking with them and find them at the local farmers market. Came home with a fresh dozen eggs as well! Really nice area, and great hosts!

I can not recommend Site 5, The Peak enough. It is far and away the best Hipcamp I’ve been to. Amazing views, sunrise and sunset, and dark night sky. We opted for the “nights worth of firewood” and only used about half of it in our 5 hour campfire. Jon had mowed the enormous site just before we arrived which was a great. Our dog enjoys roaming the large campsite too. The site is quiet and completely secluded. 4wd is a must to get to the peak, but that’s a plus for me. I enjoy the drive up the rutted road, up to a 16 degree incline in places. This was our second stay here and we will definitely be back.

Rock bottom campground that I am rebuilding after hurricane Helene has 6-8 Campsites right on beautiful Buck creek, a federally protected creek for its water cleanliness and clarity. It is known for its precious gems and minerals. Perfect place for panning . Each campsite comes with its own waterfall fed swimming hole. There is power, water and septic on the property, but not yet to the campsites. There is a small outdoor hot shower and toilet, at the moment, but we are working on a full bathhouse and shower. Also we will soon be running the power and water to each campsite. Great WiFi throughout the campground. If you have a self contained camper or rv , we can fill your tanks with fresh water, and also have a pump out station , so you can still use your bathroom and toilet. The campground is only 3.5 miles from the blue ridge parkway. Within an hour of Asheville, black mountain, swananoa, old fort, Marion, morganton, lenoir, Burnsville, spruce pine, little Switzerland, linville, linville gorge, linville falls, black mountain Crabtree falls, roaring fork falls, cawtaba falls, Tom’s creek falls, and many more. To many hikes to list. Only 9 miles to the nearest city , Marion. Super quiet, beautiful open night sky for stargazing. We are a work in progress, so please excuse some of our construction views. It is a small campground with all 6-8 sites directly creekside with picnic tables and fire rings. So if you are looking for peaceful, beautiful place to camp by crystal clear , cool water to frolic in, this is your place. Your dogs and kids will love it. Take advantage of the rock bottom opening prices. There is firewood for sale on the property. Please give rock bottom campground a try.

Portapotty was clean and had sanitizer along with other nice touches. (As my 5 year old said it made her feel better about using portapotty’s haha). Owners were very responsive about any questions that we had. Thank you for the much needed family time."

Located on family land granted by King Charles in 1685 we have worked hard to restore and refurbish in a sustainable way, using the trees and supplies from the land that they sit on. Hand crafting doors and furniture the way the family did it 140 plus years ago. The history of this place is deep, even the nails for the cabin and farm house that is now the clubhouse were hand crafted by my great grandfather in his blacksmith shop, along with the wagon wheels, horse shoes, misc farm utensils etc... there was no running out to Lowes to pick up what was needed, it was made in the blacksmith shop. We love riding ATV's and SXS's on the trails on the mountains that I grew up on with my 3 brothers, we hope the people who visit and experience the mountains feel about them the way we do, we love em. We like to give riding tours and talking about the mountain and its challenges. We named the park from the famous product that was created here during prohibition, Cherry Bounce Moonshine. You can visit some of the original still sites on the mountain, of course they are not operational today. About the adventure co side, We are an adrenaline pumping ATV and SXS park with 25+ miles of mountainous trails at four skill levels; Green (Easy), Blue (Challenging), Black Diamond (Very Difficult) and Double Black Diamond (Most Difficult). You can bring your own ATV or SXS or rent one of ours. We have cabins & camp sites that are accessed by ATV or SXS on the mountains as well as hiking or biking. We do not allow jeeps, trucks or dirt bike motorcycles on the mountain, just ATV's and SXS vehicles.

Pondside Single, DBA Mud Puddle

Pondside Single and the lower part of my property were decimated in the catastrophic floods of Hurricane Helene, September 27, 2024. The 1st three photos are what it looks like now. Please know that we (and Bee Tree Valley) are still in the recovery phase, and it will take *years* to recover. Pondside Single still has the electric hookups and wifi that folks enjoyed. But it is no longer a tucked away, private, sweet and comforting place to camp. Please take this into account if you would like to book with us. Pondside Single pond was originally a small quarry outlier for Grove Stone Quarry in Black Mountain. There are many small quarries in this area that were dug in the 1940s and 1950s. After they finished their work, reclamation was done, and the quarries were filled in by the streams and tributaries which flow down this valley. It is a very shallow pond which offers sanctuary to birds, fishes, salamanders, frogs, snapping turtles, beaver and otters. I have installed a Clemson Beaver Pond Leveler at the overflow. This device tricks the Beavers and they can not hear or feel the water flowing out of the pond. It has been in place for 3 years and works like a charm. Beavers are very industrious creatures.

The Great Smokey Mountains and Deep Creek are about 1.5 hours away from the campsite. The Appalachian Trail is closeby and there are countless opportunities for stunning hikes. There's also kayaking, tubing, white water rafting opportunities as well as zip lining and horseback riding. There is something for everyone to enjoy and we can't wait to share it with you!

Loafers Joy Meadow

10/9/2024 NOTICE: We had some damage to our road due to Hurricane Helene that made it impassable. It has since been repaired and is opened to traffic. There are still some remaining rough areas, but the road is easily passable by passenger vehicles and RV's up to 28ft. Our site was once part of a much larger farm growing tobacco and raising cattle and other farm animals. The existing tobacco barn was built in the early 1960's. The concrete pad used for RV camping was used to store silage for the cows. The non-potable water source is a mountain spring that has been used on the farm since the 1930's. While many tobacco barns in the area have been torn down for their rusted tin roofing and rustic siding, we have worked to restore the barn and preserve its history.

Our farm is vast and sparse, focusing on sustainability while giving back to the community. We are a safe haven for animals and humans alike. Situated on and between two peaks of Little Phoenix Mountain range in Jefferson Ashe County. Our sites’ altitudes range from 3100 feet to over 3600 feet, which is a lot of slope and hillside to say the least. As a guest you will be offered insane long views and limited exposure to the oldest registered breed of bovine in the world. Our Scottish Highland Cattle are majestic and fit in quite well in the NC mountainside. Located in the Blue Ridge mountains, we have natural water springs popping out, some of which are tapped to drink from. (10.1.23 currently farm springs are not accessible to guests, shatley springs up the road approx 4miles north has a public spring that we highly recommend) If you are looking for a camping spot that is only 5-10 minutes from town (Jefferson NC or the quaint Downtown West Jefferson) but feels like you're in the middle of no where, then we have it! The Blue Ridge Parkway is less than 20 minutes away and the New River equally close. Looking Forward: July update. We are currently working on provided an all downhill mountain bike trail from 3600 to 3150ft. This path will be double wide for the most part and wide open at first to soak in the se view. Will update when completed! *a ride back up for your bike and yourself will be scheduled if requested OnTopOfTheWorld.camp *firewood is available if you pay on site you will have to use Venmo/Paypal *We do not allow any harvesting of campfire wood or burning of our property outside of the designated fire ring. One mile down the road from the farm is the Virginia Creeper Trail, renowned for biking, but as a multi-use trail, you can also enjoy walking, running, horseback riding, fishing, cross country skiing, and geocaching. South Holston Lake is only minutes away by vehicle, with two public access boating ramps 10 to 20 minutes away. For a drink by the water, head to Abingdon Vineyards- only 10 minutes away. Access to the Appalachian Trail is only 20 minutes away in Damascus. We became caretakers of this lovely property in June of 2021, moving from our existing farm, 45 minutes away. When we got it, it was a blank slate of a hayfield, and we have spent the summer laying infrastructure so that we may grow our cut-flower, honey, and vegetable business.

The view of the mountain range from our property and the RV site is incredible! We have mowed walking paths where you can enjoy the wildflowers, wildlife, and beautiful views. The South Toe River is less than a half mile away and is a great place to swim, fish, tube, kayak and canoe. There are great hiking trails nearby, and the Blue Ridge Parkway is 8 miles away (via a NC Scenic Byway). This is a rural area with several cute little towns that have restaurants, bars, and shopping: Burnsville (12 miles away), Spruce Pine (16 miles away), and Little Switzerland (11 miles away). We live in a log cabin on the property near the paved road.

Valle View Camp Spot! A flat and private spot. Praise Be! Quiet area of Valle Crucis. It is just 2 miles from the original Mast General Store. Larger units must back in carefully between the guard rail and the ditch. The lot had some damage from Helene. This is a parking lot of an old church and sits by two small creeks. Maximum stays are up to 6 nights. No water, no septic. No generators are allowed. Large concrete pad/parking lot for RV and an extra car or two. This is a campsite only, an RV is not included. We have electricity but no water or septic. In the spring, summer, and fall - We have a toilet and hand-washing sink inside the building that you may use if you select this as an "add-on". A code to enter the building will be sent if you add this feature. This site does not have potable water and does not have a shower. The closest public bathrooms are at Valle Crucis Community Park. Mountain Dog Coffee and Holloway Corner Kitchen are private, but good places to start your day with coffee and/or food. Please respect our neighbors by limiting noise. This lot is private, but you may see or hear the neighbors. Dogs must always be on a leash when outside your RV or car. There are no garbage cans or trash pick-up; pack it out, please. The trash/convenience center is about 2 miles away on 194 for you to take your garbage. We DO NOT advise taking Clarks Creek Rd. from 105 to get to this location. You must travel to Clarks Creek through Valle Crucis via 194. You must also detach any trailer or towed items a mile or so before the camp spot and before the switchbacks. Please view the map and be comfortable with travel to our campsite. There are sections of the road with no shoulder and pit holes due to current construction/road work. There is very limited cellular service in this area. WiFi & WiFi calling should work fine. --- We have a 50 AMP Hookup NO water NO septic. If you have 2 cars, trucks or RVs in the same group you may add them on as another unit. Grandfather Mountain Campground on 105 allows non-guests to use their dump station for a fee. The trash/convenience center is about 2 miles away on 194 for you to take your garbage. Take the trash there before hooking up and leaving as that section of 194 has a large truck warning.
