A small homestead on the bank of Abbotts Creek near where it feeds into High Rock Lake. Peace and solitude , but close to the amenities of town. Less than a five minute drive to the grocery store, and less than a fifteen minute drive to uptown Lexington. Public access for kayaks is less than half a mile away. And the view is unbelievable!
We have a corn hole board and bags now available for use, as well as a few other yard games. Please let us know if you are interested in using them.
The edible landscape is available for you to enjoy. A list of current available items is posted in our greenhouse, as well as baskets for picking and foraging.

Our hosts were fantastic and supplied every possible convenience for us. As mentioned before, Jack the donkey is very friendly, and the stars at night are fantastic. The cabin is facing the rising sun, so be prepared for a lovely sunrise as well. :). We were looking for a "Little House on the Prairie" experience and this cabin didn't disappoint . The downtown is cute and the museum has hands-on things for kiddos. My kids are already asking to come back!

My best friend wanted to celebrate her birthday in nature, and this spot has been on my Hipcamp bucket list so we booked it for a girls’ trip, and it did not disappoint! The hosts make you feel welcomed while still giving you complete privacy. I’m honestly surprised this place isn’t listed under the stargazing category because it felt like we were in a dome, we saw so many constellations plus Jupiter and Saturn!
The farm is clean, beautiful, and peaceful. The animals were adorable, but Jack was the star of the trip his perfectly timed laugh kept us cracking up all weekend. The greenhouse was awesome, but the outdoor shower was the true winner for all of us. The products were top-tier and the water pressure/temperature were perfect!
This is a true hidden gem. We walked the on-site trail to Abbott’s Creek it’s HUGE, definitely kayak ready, and even good for fishing. The massive cypress trees along the water are breathtaking. We’re already planning more trips here because it’s perfect for everyone: families, couples, friend groups, or solo travelers.
You don’t have to worry about ice, wood, or charcoal since you can buy them on-site, and if you don’t want to cook, you’re less than 5 miles from food and gas stations. Plus, so many attractions are nearby right now you can even visit the troll less than 20 minutes from the cabin!
Highly recommend bringing a telescope. Thank you N & D for hosting us 10/10!

Cool spot! Came down for my birthday so that was nice. Everything here has been done with care, intent and purpose is what I observed. Tried to figure the amount of work that has been done here and could not. Hot water shower was great. Learned about a composting toilet. Visited some with Jack the donkey. Little cabin was cool especially the windows which worked on a kind of swivel and peg system. Didn't use the stove but found it intriguing and imagined myself warming up next to it in the winter. Good area for jogging also, hence the appreciation for the shower. Wish I had collected some black walnuts. Would definitely book again

Natalie’s place was PHENOMENAL- she’s truly a born hostess. If your definition of luxury if the same as mine, that “they thought of everything” feeling, then this is the most luxurious rental available. Everything screamed “we truly care” - they had little mosquito coils, fire starter, fire wood, etc for us, plus they took the time to fully prepare the beautiful wood stove so all we had to do was light it. They also had a little mini store with great prices for important things (like $2 ice bags and $10 headlamps). The land was gorgeous & easy to find, the animals were all friendly, the outhouse and outdoor shower were impeccably clean, plus they brought us fresh eggs! I cannot rave enough, this was a lovely experience for a weekend getaway. Cannot wait to return :)

One of the best camping experiences I’ve ever had. The cabin is cozy, but nothing beats sleeping under the stars, being awakened by a donkey, and befriending a couple of pigs over coffee. Will definitely be back!

Let me start by saying this which was the most important thing. I FELT SAFE AND WELCOME DURING MY STAY. I gifted myself some much needed time alone for my birthday and the property and people were so wonderful. The farm, the garden, the lake (even though the water was low) everything was a great vibe. During the day I walked the property, picked fresh vegetables and herbs, and watched the animals interact with eachother. Have you ever seen a donkey and cow taking a walk together? Well I did, and I do t know if that’s special but it felt special to me.
They had Shea Moisture shampoo and conditioner in the outdoor shower(IYKYK) now I’m trying to order some for my house. I took a black girl shower outside(that just means I pampered myself)
Outdoor pooping is not as bad as I seems, the sawdust really does work to kill the smells and I only saw 1 big fat caterpillar in there and I think he was just trying to get out the rain. Now I am not a fan of walking in the dark but it’s about 20-30 ft. From the cabin to the outhouse so I did run with my phone and light (pointless fear)
I should have included this first and it really is important. Darrell and Natalie are really nice people and I feel like they are really operating with love. Because they could have ignored me the whole time and proceeded with their day but they made sure to welcome me and encourage me to explore. I’m coming back and bringing my children so they can enjoy this space as I did.

We loved our stay here. The cabin had everything we needed, and it was fun to browse produce at the greenhouse and add extras to our dinner. The property is beautiful, great view of the pasture and animals from the front porch, and the walk to the river was nice (and full of hidden gnomes to find). Natalie is a great host and answered all our questions. We would definitely stay here again!

We lived staying at the cabin. N & D are excellent hosts. We were positively surprised about all the little small details that were taken care of. Everything you may need for a camping/cabin stay is thought of. Our young son had a blast meeting chickens, pigs, Jack the donkey and the sheep. Great property with creek access and nice views. Would recommend staying here if you want to unwind in the woods. We might be back it was so much fun!

Wow! We are so blessed to have found this beautiful site. We loved wandering and exploring the land, picking fresh blackberries, and saying hi to the animals (the donkey is our great friend!). Thank you Natalie & Darrel for being such awesome hosts - even though we arrived very late at night, we were given good instructions and left a lantern to find our lovely cabin. Hoping to come back and spend more time here, it is a true gem.

This place is a treasure! I booked pretty late in the day, and Natalie was so accommodating. Everything in and around the cabin was so thoughtful that the couple times I started to need something I realized they were 2 steps ahead of me. I absolutely loved the greenhouse! Bed was very comfortable and I really enjoyed the selection of books they had. Can’t wait to come back (and finish my book!)

Where to go
Lake Norman
Less than 30 minutes from Mooresville lies Lake Norman, which holds the title for the biggest man-made lake in North Carolina at 32,510 acres. From swimming and fishing to jet ski rentals and chartered cruises, aquatic adventures are endless. Lake Norman also boasts a beer and wine trail map that lists local breweries and wineries dotting the area. Drive-in yurt camping near Lake Norman is another favorite option, and many of these campsites offer picnic tables, firewood, and drinking water.
Uwharrie National Forest
Covering 51,546 acres and sitting just over one hour east of Mooresville, Uwharrie National Forest offers horseback riding trails through the trees, hiking trails, mountain biking loops, and OHV trails. Camping options include pitch-your-own tent campgrounds, RV campsites, dispersed wilderness camping, and even horse-friendly campsites in select areas. There’s a 14-day limit on camping within a 30-day period.
Charlotte Surrounds
The most populated city in North Carolina, Charlotte is just 40 minutes south of Mooresville. Featuring the NASCAR hall of fame, Carowinds (a 407-acre amusement park), trampoline parks, and two mint museums, Charlotte offers campers a quick city trip with urban amenities. Stay at an RV park near Carowinds equipped with full hookups for water, electricity, and sewage, or opt for a wilderness cabin at a campsite with outdoor grills for sizzling up hot dogs.

July and August are the warmest months in Mooresville, with temperatures up to 86°F. This time of year also sees the least amount of rainfall. Mooresville averages 216 sunny days per year (above the national average at 206), so, even in colder months, sunny days can be expected. May, September, and October are also great months for visiting since they bring fewer crowds. The weather will be a little cooler but the leaves will make for a colorful hike. Although snow is seen in winter, temperatures don’t typically fall below freezing.
