This is the perfect choice for those looking for simplicity when camping. The area was spacious and well maintained making it perfect for tents, or in my case, a small 15ft off grid camper. The driveway leads back to an area surrounded by trees giving it a sense of privacy despite not being out in the middle of no where. Given the convenience of the location.... you're not going to find a better deal for miles around if you're looking for something simple.

We loved staying with Claudine at Captains Corner previously so when she posted Sea Horse we knew we had to book it! The lot is grassy and flat. Waterfront on a canal on one side and waterview of the Currituck Sound on the other. Good sized lot. So lots of room for those canopys, cornhole, etc. Husband enjoyed throwing the pole in the canal. He did catch a crab. We will definitely be back! Claudine is an amazing host. She is very accommodating and ALWAYS quick to reply. She is the reason I prefer hipcamp over campgrounds now.

Claudine's Captain's Corner was the perfect place to camp! The site is located on a corner lot with water views on both sides. The site was quite large and clean, with chairs, a fire pit, trash can and hook ups. I highly recommend the Captain's Corner for those passing through the area, or to anyone looking for a relaxing stay by the water.

This was a very nice spot. Centrally located near a lot of fun places. We went to Virginia Beach in about an hour and fifteen minutes. Nags Head, Kitty Hawk and Cape Hatteras are all just a short distance away. Claudine was a great host. I outdoor highly recommend this spot.

Beautiful setting that is convenient to Avon yet also private and natural. What a great way to use the space under a beach house! It was perfect to keep our teardrop out of the rain and give us plenty of covered space to spread out. Note that while this home is as close to the dune as possible, the homes on this part of the island are set back from the actual beach so there is a bit of a hilly nature walk to the dune and a steep drop down to the beach. However, that nature walk (complete with wild flowers) was actually our favorite part! Just a note that those who have mobility issues might need to use the public access walkway a few houses down the street which has decking and stairs for better accessibility. The owner is very quick to respond when we had questions. We did have a few minor issues (e.g no hot water or lights in the shower or bathroom) but we loved it regardless and will hopefully be back!

Definitely recommend!! Great spot. Very quiet location. HUGE lot. 1 minute walk to a restaurant/bar. Claudine and her husband were both amazing hosts, she was very responsive and accommodating. Will definitely be booking again in the future. This was our first time ever using Hipcamp and it definitely seems to be a better way to go versus staying at a campground.

14 nights at Captain’s Corner ⚓️

Claudine responded to a FB post where we were desperately seeking a campsite near Virginia Beach after emergency changes to our travel plans left us without one over Memorial Day weekend. Some may argue that Grandy isn’t close to VB at about an hour away, but, Captain’s Corner turned out to be great! We were close enough to visit with our family and the OBX offered some fun opportunities to explore new things! The site itself was clean, spacious and quiet; we had the whole corner to ourselves. We rode bikes around the Walnut Island neighborhood, fished at the site and over by the little pier next to the Bar & Grill at the end of the road. *We didn’t try eating there, but a couple locals said it was good. Sadly, on the last day of our trip, the unthinkable happened and our seemingly healthy 2yr old kitty got super sick and we rushed him to the local Emergency Vet. As it turned out he had an acute heart condition and we lost him. It was shocking and terrible. I share this only to say that Claudine and her family were so kind and helpful. They offered to allow us to stay as long as we needed and even let us leave a little memorial behind to help us grieve. If you stay here someday, give a thought to the softest kitty in the world. 🩶 Dorian Gray 🩶 8.29.23 ~ 05.27.25

3 nights at Gator Creek Private Retreat

This was my second time staying at Gator Creek and it certainly won't be my last. It's very private, secure, quiet and beautiful. What more could you ask for?! It's also close to the ARNWR (see pictures) and it's just a little farther to the OBX for those so inclined. Stop by the local country store and say hello to Mr. Baily while you're there. Watch for the muskrats in the water near the entrance. They're fun to watch!

Weekend Trip to The marsh property

This is a great spot right near the beach (8-10 minutes away). It was a little buggy but I expected that since it was in some of the reviews. Overall a great stay!
