Campers who want to stay close to town can choose from private campgrounds and RV resorts. Several favorite family campgrounds are near the Daketown Town State Forest. If you don't mind bringing your own supplies, you can pitch a tent in many of the surrounding New York state parks. Most of them permit primitive camping.

The closest state campground is Moreau Lake State Park, about 13 miles from Sarasota Springs. The picturesque grounds have cabins and tent camping close to the lake. Campers get basic amenities like restrooms and picnic tables, plus a swimming beach, boat launch, and hiking trails. The park's nature center has kid-friendly programs, too.

On Great Sacandaga Lake, the Northampton Beach campground is nestled on the shore amid towering white pines. The tent sites are nicely shaded, and a sandy beach and boat launch for large crafts provide lake access. For those willing to venture north, Hearthstone Point campground has sites right on Lake George. The facilities are older, but the trailer and tent sites are large and secluded, offering a relaxing atmosphere.

It’s considered a sacred site central to local land rematriation work with the Kanienkeha:ka. Coursing between two outcroppings in a deep ravine, the waterfall crashes down over mossy rock shelves into emerald swimming holes and through dramatic clay beds. It’s one of those extraordinarily beautiful spots on earth that make you feel like you are in another world. It's about a 10 minute hike to the waterfall where you can spend the day swimming, exploring the clay beds and looking for fossils in the 280 million year old gorge. In the evening, make a campfire and fall asleep under the stars listening to the river below. The hike is steep and appropriate footwear is required. All hiking is at your own risk. Although your path to the waterfall is private and the waterfall is on private property, there may be other guests or locals that access the waterfall further down the road. There is no glass or alcohol allowed at the falls. Be aware that you may hear your camping neighbors in the woods. For this reason, we ask that you don’t play amplified music and keep noise down after 10pm to enjoy the sounds of frogs, crickets, owls, and night songs of the countryside At the entrance to the campsites there is a barn community room with a charging station, cold water sink, fridge, coffee maker, cookware, and a port-a-potty. Enjoy the big view from the highest corner of the big field. This is a sweet little campsite set in a birch grove with a view to the Catskills, and lots of wildlife. Two minute walk from your car, and a five minute walk to a swimming pond and a composting toilet outhouse. Near Chatham, New York where there is a brewery, cheese shop, bakery, restaurants, and a movie theatre. We are half an hour from Hudson, and in the midst of plentiful Berkshire and Hudson Valley hiking, biking and sightseeing opportunities. Early check-in and late check-out are often fine; just ask. *Special note for winter campers: depending on both snowfall and what you are driving, the parking locations may change. If we can, we will be happy to either ferry you via our 4WD, or help you carry your stuff in. The winter is really fun and beautiful. It's really nice here and we're happy to share it. The ‘Fossil Creek Trail’ leads down through the woods from the pond area to the slate bed creek. (*Please watch your footing on the trail- some is quite uneven.) There are many amazing fossils to find if you look in the creek bed during the dryer season. The woods are cooler and bug free, perfect for sitting and relaxing with a book or picnic. There are several mowed trails that wind around the pond and then back up to the Tent.

You will find massive boulders, and various artifacts as this property was once a mining operation dating back to the early 1920s. Be mindful of partially fallen trees on the hillside along the south end. It’s a steep hike down so get your hiking poles and good boots. The north end is an easier hike. If you find any cool artifacts they are yours to keep or just leave them and we will add them to the display for the new cabin. Check out the iconic ‘57 Chevy Bel Air halfway down the gorge. With your stay we are offering 20% off your cabin stay when it becomes available. 20 minutes to Windham, Minekill State Park and Bates State Forest(down the road.) The Milk Run is approximately 15 min away back toward the interstate. There is a dump station, gas station and they have great sandwiches for the ride home. So many great things to see, just ask. We invite you to come camp on 77 acres of varied land. Woods, fields, swimming pond, hiking trails, and possibly even other campers, although it's very private if that's how you'd like it. You may be perfectly content staying put, but if you seek small town offerings, Chatham (15 minutes away) offers restaurants, art galleries, a brewery, movie theatre, two bakeries, and some shops. We are half an hour from Hudson, and in the midst of plentiful Berkshire and Hudson Valley hiking, biking, antiquing, and sightseeing opportunities. Enjoy the big view from the highest corner of the big field. This is a sweet little campsite set in a birch grove with a view to the Catskills, and lots of wildlife. Two minute walk from your car, and a five minute walk to a swimming pond and a composting toilet outhouse. Near Chatham, New York where there is a brewery, cheese shop, bakery, restaurants, and a movie theatre. We are half an hour from Hudson, and in the midst of plentiful Berkshire and Hudson Valley hiking, biking and sightseeing opportunities. Early check-in and late check-out are often fine; just ask. *Special note for winter campers: depending on both snowfall and what you are driving, the parking locations may change. If we can, we will be happy to either ferry you via our 4WD, or help you carry your stuff in. The winter is really fun and beautiful. It's really nice here and we're happy to share it. Private driveway in the woods leads up a hill to three fabulous, secluded, country-setting camping locations with incredible views. Hay fields in front of you with woods behind you, you'll have peace and quiet in total seclusion but are only 5 minutes from downtown historic Greenwich village with diners and shops and a CVS. (The “Stewarts” gas station and market has firewood bundles!) Camping locations have no amenities but are cleared with mowed grass and have fire-pits. Pitch tent or bring RV, you'll enjoy yourself and the wildlife around you. Site 1 and 2 are adjacent to woods, site 3 is a wide-open-field site (great RV site) with the best panoramic and sunset view. There is camp wood for fires in various spots on the property (40 acres) that campers are welcome to but you might want to bring some of your own as well. This is the perfect site for fishing, swimming, creek walking, fossil hunting, mountain views, star gazing, and just relaxing and enjoying the outdoors. We are close to award-winning breweries, wineries, historic sites, farmers markets, restaurants, and shopping. We have several accessible hiking trails with great views nearby. We can't wait to welcome you to our private slice of heaven. There are 21 acres for you to discover with 10 acres in front, and 11 acres of woods with a meandering creek as the border. You can think of this land as your land for the duration of your stay. Respect the land and tent as you would your own. Squish your toes into the earth and breathe in the wild thyme-filled grassy trails. Go for a walk in the woods. Take a deep breath. Relax and recharge! The pebble beach at the pond allows for a gradual entry and goes to 16 feet deep in the middle. Feel free to swim on out to the floating dock. We love jumping in. There are many fish in the pond, most of them are large mouth bass. You may use our canoe, but please wear a life jacket if you are not a confident swimmer. (*Swimming is at your own risk!) The ‘Fossil Creek Trail’ leads down through the woods from the pond area to the slate bed creek. (*Please watch your footing on the trail- some is quite uneven.) There are many amazing fossils to find if you look in the creek bed during the dryer season. The woods are cooler and bug free, perfect for sitting and relaxing with a book or picnic. There are several mowed trails that wind around the pond and then back up to the Tent.

We had a wonderful time. The view was spectacular. The accommodation suited our needs. Having to outdoor compost potty with a scenic view was a plus for outdoors camping. We had heavy rain, but we were prepared. Mike had that wonderful pizza oven that we took full advantage of making so delicious pizza. We plan on returning to repeat our adventure.

Grateful Acres is just 25 minutes from great restaurants and coffee shops, and only 5 minutes from the stunning Somerset Reservoir and nearby hiking trails. Cabin D was so sweet and charming. We watched the sunset over the field and in the morning watched the field brighten as the sun rose through the woods behind us. There was a small heater available, but we didn't use it. The cups, silverware, cloth napkins and coffee and coffee put were a perfect touch. I did bring my favorite sleeping bags (zipped together) so we were warm when we woke up to 36°F in the morning, but I am sure the blankets provided would have been just as cozy. It was so wonderful to be able to watch the world through so many windows. I will definitely be back in the future!
