Bakers Akers is located in what used to be Nebblett New Mexico but is now Virden New Mexico. The one room Nebblett school house was located on this property. Virden was settled by the Mormons when they were ran out of old Mexico by Poncho Villa. Kit Carson took this route guiding General Kearney and the Army of the west to California during the Mexican American war. It is now being discussed that Coronado may have come through this area also. The farm was used for breeding and training race horses. It is now a cow/calf operation. Learn more about this land: Camp on the Gila River amongst the century old Cottonwoods and Mulberry trees, with Bermuda grass carpeting. Plenty of shade to pitch a tent or park under. Wildlife abounds with deer, beaver, turkeys, javelina, and a large variety of birds. Located on a eighty acre cattle ranch. Quiet with great views of stars at night and majestic mountains in the day. The camp grounds are located beyond the cattle pastures and next to the Gila River. Fire pits available and plenty of wood to gather for burning. Eleven miles from the historic town of a Duncan Arizona, filled with little markets, craft store, antique shop, rock shop, and home town restaurants, if any needs arise or an itch needs scratching. With prior notice and extra fees a New Mexican dutch-oven dinner and hayride can be included.

Granite Gap lies west of Lordsburg on NM 80, 17 miles north of Rodeo. (Take the Road Forks exit off I-10 and drive south 11 miles.) Located in a transitional area between the Chihuahuan and Sonoran deserts, Granite Peak and other limestone ridges and rock formations rise to 6,500 feet above the Gila River basin range, providing habitat for bighorn sheep, javelina, mule deer, cougar and coyote. In season, blooming ocotillo, cactus, agave, yucca and wildflowers brighten the coarsely textured landscape. Lizards, rattlesnakes, and the rare Gila monster crawl around the crevices. Gambel's quail, golden eagle, roadrunner, hummingbird, and northern mockingbird further enhance this desert drama playing against the backdrop of the Peloncillo Mountains. To the south, Cochise's profile, chiseled along the range top, watches over the ghosts of the Chiricahua Apaches. This location is great for Dark Sky viewing and the valley is already a hot stop for astronomers and many telescopes dot the land Rodeo valley landscape. The land is private property located in the Southwest corner of New Mexico. The park is made up of beautiful desert landscape and offers beautiful scenic views overlooking the valley below. Currently the property offers off-the-grid camping only and there is no water source or electricity. The property does not currently have designated camp spots and guest are welcome to camp where they like as long as they stay within the property boundaries. The property boundaries are not currently physically marked and there will be markers installed in the coming year to identify the corners of the property. The gate at the entry to the property is locked and will need to be unlocked to allow for entry which will be coordinated through a local individual. The area is the natural habitat for wildlife that could be dangerous such as Rattlesnakes, scorpions, Mountain Lions, coyotes and many other animals and insects native to the deserts of the Southwest and is raw terrain with loose rocks and difficult hiking conditions and is intended for experience hikers and climbers only. The location has no cell phone service and there is no way to call for emergency medical service. All visitors should proceed at their own risk. Ten minutes from Silver's historic downtown, fifteen minutes to Walmart, and once you get here you're in a world of your own.. Your off-the-beaten-track concrete pad (18' x 23', so best for vans and class B RVs) is on a dead end off a dead end, and far enough from me to give you complete privacy. (It's a short distance from the house front, but as I use a second driveway that goes to the back you won't see very much of me.) I'm on six acres of land with trees all around the pad, and you're five minutes away from the Gila National Forest, with Gomez Peak visible from your secluded one space, one vehicle site. It's dark and quiet at night, with just enough dogs barking to remind you you're in New Mexico. I have earplugs if you don't. That's about it. This is a new venture for me and I'm happy to listen to any suggestions you might have that would make your stay even more enjoyable. Welcome! And a P.S. I hope I can take away soon: There's a road construction project underway on Little Walnut Road, the way to the house. You may experience a brief delay or a short detour as you go up or down.
